The exhaust part is a bit disingenuous, cars like GT3, and 991.2/992 benefit greatly from high flow cats and headers. There are certainly tiers of quality in the aftermarket however, companies like Dundon are magicians with Porsche exhaust systems that translate to huge usable power (but you will pay a premium for it) and then you have companies like Fi Exhaust who are just a bunch of pipes and noise. Certain aftermarket companies spend an incredible amount of time refining one part to be superior to the OEM piece (see Numeric shifter as well), and in those cases I think it's perfectly appropriate to modify using those parts - see Obsessed Garage's channel for a similar mindset on modifications.

Agreed, there are some companies out there that have done the R&D that make exhaust systems that indeed work (even better than OEM).

some how I missed this video, so just watching it. Great job as usual, my take away as has been mentioned many times is: Porsche does not leave much performance on the table for any aspect of their sports cars, suspension, engine, brakes, etc. So you are better off spending your money on keeping the car well maintained keeping good tires on it, and just driving and enjoying it!!!

Next air-cooled gathering count the '78-'89s with chin spoilers but no rear wing. Even Revell Gernamy's new 3.2 Carrera model has the chin but not the matching wing.

What a great video. I do 100% disagree that one should only buy OEM parts from the manufacture. Most shops will do the installation if you bring your own parts, they just won't warranty the parts since they didn't source it. I like how Vu keeps playing devils advocate with a lot of their statements. Paying more for something doesn't make it better... it just means you paid more for it.

We agree that there are some parts that are better than OEM. That said, OEM parts very rarely give you fitment/use issues. As for buying OEM parts, just make sure you are buying them from a reputable seller.

I've seen 2-3 KZfaq videos where they dyno a 997 before and after exhaust. The smallest gain I've seen is 5hp, the biggest is 15hp. But there is a gain. Probably depends on year and configuration.

I get why you would drop an LS1 or 350 into a 911, but a Honda engine? That one doesn't make much sense to me.

One is reliability in Hondas plus you can turbo those with great results. I'm not sure on weight but I do know the weight of LS engines are almost the same as stock flat 6.

New to this channel and I'm about to purchase a 991.1 this Saturday. It's a CPO (6months left) Carrera S. How often do you have these live Tech Tactics? Great info and thought provoking to say the least! I've watched a few about fuel and oil with Charles and Lake, I have a question about an additive called Turbo Maxx. It has high ZDDP, would this be ok to use on a 2012 3.8? Thank you!

I definitely understand the spirit of what you are saying. eBay was mentioned several times here and I understand why. But let’s say I order a part from someone reputable like FCPEuro (for example) because I don’t want to be bent over for labor AND parts. If a shop refused to install parts based simply on the fact they don’t like the vendor OR the fact they didn’t facilitate procurement then needless to say I would be looking for a new shop ASAP. Let’s not pretend shops are giving you the parts at (their) cost.
@PorscheClubofAmerica

@@natemallory9141 I totally agree with you. Following their logic: “OEM Porsche brand coils” for example, that’s made by Bosch or Bremi depending on year is the best option. Why when you can simply buy Bosch or Bremi coils without the Porsche brand on it for significantly less.
@BertrandDussert

Great video. Wish you’d double clicked a bit more on braking performance. There is so much you could cover there (trade offs, heat resistance, impact of size of disk, cooling / ducting, etc, poor initial bite for race brakes when cold, etc). Great content overall. PS, I like how your expensive wheel option was $500. Try 5 times that per wheel. And I thought Koenigsegg had the first production OEM carbon wheels. In any case, I’m with Gordon Murray on this one. I’ll take magnesium or other forged wheels over CF (too much risk of abrupt failure).
@PorscheClubofAmerica
@PorscheClubofAmerica 2 жыл бұрын
True, high end wheels can be thousands of $$$ each. 2015 Mustang Shelby GT350R came with "the world's first mass-produced carbon fiber wheels." (Koenigsegg and aftermarket offerings notwithstanding). Glad you enjoyed the show!

@@izumispa2993 Wow you guys are a tough crowd. He mentions his cars for a few seconds as a discussion starter on the various topics. He does this as a presenter to get the topic started from his own experiences. How is he going to use your car as a topic starter etc..? Once the topics were rolling he never interrupted with his own 2 cents. He simply moved on to another one. He tries hard to get guest speakers so he DOESN'T have to talk about just his cars. Did you see the amazing hour long video on 80's Carrera 3.2 models? That was amazing. Or they did on a 996.2 GT3 and the differences over a standard model? I'm sure if you have content ideas or can provide a car and or interview they would be all ears.
