Let's talk about NJS! I wanted to make a video to go over how non NJS my NJS bikes are. You'll see my Kalavinka isn't as NJS as it appears ;)

Very well said. Different strokes for different folks. Steel lugged njs frames with track geometry tickles our fancy but i would consider swapping the fork from a road bike or drilling a hole in the original for front brakes if that doesnt work out.

Love NJS bikes and parts for the quality and vintage look. However, it's about njoying bikes and riding bikes. You can build a nearly ALL NJS bike and be rideable. There are Selle Italia NJS approved saddles etc.

MASH and Cinelli have added sparkle to some frames. It’s a very cool effect.

I like bolt on hubs. I also thought that the option for less spokes was a bit lighter with some custom wheels than 32 or 36 on the traditional Araya's and Dura Ace. I am okay with the rest of the components being NJS but they don't have to be.
@diablocds12 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don’t like traditional 15mm track nuts it’s just so impractical so all my bikes have Allen nuts. Dura ace is open bearing and since I ride the bikes in semi inclement weather they’d require more maintenance. I don’t take the bikes off curbs or beat them up so 32 spokes is overkill since most decent modern wheel sets are like max 28 spokes. I keep my impractical bikes practical for my uses 😄😄😄

Great video! I'm definitely a sucker for the super-flake sparkle paint. Quick question: When is the right time to take the front brake off of your track bike?

There's no right time to take your front brake off your bike. I say only do it if you feel comfortable with it and only if you want to. If you're more comfortable keeping it on, that doesn't make you any less of a track/fixed gear bike rider. Don't let other people make you feel like you have to take the brake off to be cool or to enjoy riding.

Handle bar stems are Nitto. i do ride tubeless but tires are kevlar belt endurance tires. have not flatted in a year but have always been lucky that way. lightweight fixed gear in radius of the city you can move fast as anything. see ya on the road

Yea I agree, more than one way to enjoy a certain type of bike and some people forget that when it's stamped. But also I'm not a purist so I would have that view! Love the look of NJS frames, but loveeee riding them with carbon and clipless because the juxtaposition between carbon and steel is beautiful. But that front brake hole is such a shame 😂

NJS bike under someone who raves about "fully NJS" but have never ever raced except sprints against unsuspecting commuters is like katana in hands of peasant who uses it to chop pork. I agree it's nice to have well crafted bikes and ride them, but there's a border which shouldn't be crossed and desire shouldn't take over joy of cycling. NJS is just a stamp if my bike isn't inspected for NJS certification.
