Very well said. Different strokes for different folks. Steel lugged njs frames with track geometry tickles our fancy but i would consider swapping the fork from a road bike or drilling a hole in the original for front brakes if that doesnt work out.

Love NJS bikes and parts for the quality and vintage look. However, it's about njoying bikes and riding bikes. You can build a nearly ALL NJS bike and be rideable. There are Selle Italia NJS approved saddles etc.

You make an excellent point. The best bike, for any purpose, terrain, amount of money is the one you yearn to ride every day. That's what people need to understand. I'm very glade that you ended up with Kalavinka. It sounds like a miss, one after another, but actually a hit in my view. I own several nfs frames too and I'd like to share you why I think so. Quality wise, every njs frame will outlast their riders, so let keep this aside. Paint can be costumed while logo/decal of each brand is due to personal preferences, another similarity so again let's keep them aside as well. So now we're down to the difference which is the desirability and price holding. Kalavinka and also Nagasawa ( as well as Samson, which is for regular riders, was nearly impossible to order while he was making njs frames) hold the value better than both Level and Presto by a clear margin. As opposed to what you mentioned that Presto ( and too Level?) is rare and sought after, I don't think that's true___i don't think we njs street riders consider Level and Presto as rare and sought after. (Maybe in Japan?) Kalavinka (and Nagasawa) is far more rarer and sought after particularly for street njs riders. A good condition (not even great nor excellent) njs Kalavinka frame, a lot more desirable, still costs similar or even more than Level or Presto in excellent condition. With due respect to their master frame builders, the desirability for both Kalavinka and Nagasawa over Level and Presto, in Asia, is not even a question.
@diablocds1
@diablocds1 Жыл бұрын
Kalavinka is very rare in the US. Nagasawa is sort of rare but you see them pretty often. Level is common but on the other hand presto is almost never seen. In Japan most of the NJS frames that I saw racing were Presto and Level but in the US it's different. I agree that Kalavinka, Nagasawa and Samson are the best ones.

@@diablocds1 That’s nice to hear. But I still firmly believe that 100 vintage Masi or Cinelli pista bikes in a city are (widely) more special than only few Bianchi or Pinarello ones as rarity at a specific location doesn’t mean more special and the same can be said like what I mentioned earlier about njs brands, but again it’s my view and I fully respect other’s preferences. Call me crazy 😜 cause I’d take one Nagaswa/Samson/Kalvinka over 1 Level & 1 Presto. (I’m not hating them, hope you understand) Lastly, love your Kalavinka and Samson, 2 of my top 5 njs brands. Best wishes.

@Christopher Sisti Dude. I’ve been wanting a Samson real bad but the way the forks look on most of them make it seem like I’d hit my feet on the front wheel when taking sharp turns or doing track stands. Have you ever had this issue?
@diablocds1
@diablocds1 Жыл бұрын
So it’s not about the fork it’s about the geometry and size of the frame. If it’s a small frame you’re going to have toe overlap. If it’s a tiny frame you’ll have massive toe overlap but people deal with this. Whether it’s Samson or specialized it’ll have this. My bikes have very little toe overlap but that has to do with the size of my frame (57.5x55.5), having normal track geo and having 165mm crank arms. Hope this helps!
