If ever a club 'needed' to go down in order to 're-set' themselves and bring them to their senses, it's Arsenal. The club, having ignored key players (who played in the Wenger era) from having roles in the club today, still weirdly cling to 'Wenger-football'. I think Arsenal need a total change of direction......perhaps a return to a more 'pragmatic' and defensive minded football as espoused by George Graham. Afterall, the modern day equivalent of him would be someone like Max Allegri. Whatever happens between now and next summer, Arsenal need a change of direction - again. I'm not convinced Arteta is a no.1, but a brilliant no. 2. Arsenal could also do with acknowledging that Tottenham have a considerably better team than they do - better in every single department. But it's the fans who are the worst - still believing they can finish in the top 4 when they don't have a hope in hell of doing so. As if they have a 'god given right' to a top 4 place. Their fans still laugh at and mock Spurs, calling them 'Spuds' and ridiculing them for losing at Liverpool - vindicating their own beliefs that Tottenham don't have what it takes to win the league. In reality, Tottenham have everything it takes to win the league, while Arsenal have little if anything required to win the league. A spell outside the top flight would knock some sense into the club, get rid of the overwhelming pomposity that pervades it, and give it the chance to have a major clear out - starting with Aubamayang, and Xhaka.

See I disagree we’ve been or I’ve been saying for years that we have problems that need to be fixed. I understand what your saying but I just think to many people watch AFTV and assume all Arsenal fans are like that

I think if we have a real chance at going down he might actually invest in the club for the first time so he doesn’t lose as much. If he doesn’t and we go down he has to be a very stupid man and will lose a lot of money.

Arsenal fans didn’t get him sacked. Most backed him until just before the very end. The fact that the ones who wanted him out were louder doesn’t change this. He was sacked because he had clearly lost his ability to get top 4 and UCL football that the club (and its financial structure) had become so accustomed to

That was pretty obvious a decade ago. Portsmouth and Wigan won the FA Cup and were relegated the same season. It's a cup competition ffs, you can have an appalling season, play 2 good games in the cup when you have good opponents, and win the whole thing

Yeah, I was confused why people mad at Arteta when he won an FA Cup and a Community Shield. Until I saw they are 13th on the league.

It’s a shame that the competition has gone the way it has but the fact is that clubs and fans value qualifying for the champions league over winning the FA Cup which lands you in the Europa League which is unfortunately seen as a hindrance these days.

The economics of the game has changed drastically since the broadcasting boom. Back in the day, the FA Cup was really prestigious, but now just the TV revenue from 1 UCL group stage game is more than one gets for winning the FA Cup. Spurs have been pretty prudent in this regard; they've always prioritized CL qualification, and played rotated teams in the Cup competitions, even though it lengthened their trophy drought. And as a result, they've overtaken their rivals financially, something which would've been unimaginable a decade ago.

I find it annoying when people talk about the FA Cup these days as if it's the most prestigious thing ever just because it's the oldest tournament. Such an anglocentric viewpoint for the modern world.

This is unfair to Arsenal fans. They were calling for Kroenke to leave the club long before they did the same for Wenger. When they did turn on Wenger, it was because he'd had several seasons of bad results and things clearly weren't getting any better. No fan wanted Kroenke at Arsenal and no fan got a choice in the matter, so why blame the fans for him taking over the club?

@@Scriv17 Highbury is a listed building because of its Art Deco architecture. Even today, where it's a block of flats, they've kept a lot of the building intact because of its heritage.

Our owner doesn't know shit about football and the last time he actually watched an arsenal match in the stadium was like 2011, the club is just a cash machine to him, nothing more. So no the people in charge don't want to do it we'll have to rely on people in lower positions to pull us out of this.

@@kevinhanandi i am not a spurs or an arsenal supporter so i may not be the most well informed but i think spurs have overtaken arsenal commercially for a few different reasons.... 1. Spurs, under Levy, actually have a really strong and well run commercial and investments department that have done nothing but focus on expanding Spurs visibility. Arsenal meanwhile have grown rather stagnant and its my understanding that their board doesn't do nearly as good of a job promoting arsenal as spurs do. 2. In the last 4 or 5 years overseas tv deals and viewership numbers for the premier league have absolutely exploded with more people watching now than ever. In that time spurs have been consistently near the top of the premier league table as well as a thrilling road to the 2019 champions league final. During that same period arsenal have been in decline on the pitch, lingering between 5th-7th therefore these new fans see spurs as the more dominant club even though historically they aren't. 3. Spurs sell ALOT of harry kane and HM Son merchandise (especially in south Korea for Son) as they are two of the best players in the world and big players bring in big money. Meanwhile at arsenal no player really has the huge following of those two, Ozil is the only arsenal player that probably has as big of a name and following and his arsenal career in the last few years has been destroyed with him regularly either not being played or left off the team sheet entirely (he is no longer an arsenal player now obviously). Those 3 things i think have contributed to spurs overtaking arsenal. In the U.K. Arsenal are the bigger side but worldwide the gap is closing.
