Your queens root system is majestic! Your queen is majestic! But again… Brad is the star of the show for me! Be interesting to see how this is all looking in a few months, definitely another plant for my wish list. Your videos have certainly inspired me to try moss poles instead of the coco coir ones I have previously bought. I’m very interested in seeing the tree fern fibre results.

Tree fern fibre is amazing! Hoyas root in it like crazy. I’ve grown Anthurium claridactyls from seed in it and my baby queen is growing insane roots in it. I’m even growing my jewel orchids in a fern fibre/perlite/charcoal mix. I’ve used it for propagations and as an additive in my aroid mix but now I’m embracing it as a long-term growing medium.

I can’t wait to see the results from this chop! I am not the best at queens, but I chopped a long rooted stem similar to what you did and had multiple growth points activate on each chonk. The babies seem more acclimated to my conditions and are growing faster and better than the mother ever did. Maybe that’s the hot take, prop to get babies that “don’t know any better” than a mother used to other conditions. Thank you for sharing!

Here in Brazil, we used a lot of substrate made from fern trees during the 70s, 80s, 90s. But it was banned by environmental agencies because it was causing the extinction of fern trees. Brazil's native species grow extremely slowly so that nature cannot recover from the impact of extraction.

Yes very important that the harvesting practices are sustainable :)!

@@sydneyplantguy, Probably the New Zealand species must have a faster growth that minimizes the impact and it is possible to perform a crop management. Here in Brazil it was not possible to develop an economic and sustainable management. So the only way to protect the species was to ban its use.
@timbardsley-smith966
@timbardsley-smith966 Жыл бұрын
In NZ the Dicksonia species they use will re-grow after cutting. They are essentially just pruning the roots. They chop the tops and they will re-root into the ground. They also only remove a small percentage of the mature trunks growing.

Amazing! I've switched to growing some of my climbers on tree fern fibre a while ago and they love it. I do have a question about the anthuriums. I recently purchased a small clarivinervum x and now I wonder if I should give it a little pole? As you always say to get them on a pole early. So far I've only seen them grow bushy. Advice would be much appreciated 💚

Probably missed it but how would you water the moss pole substrate going forward? Assuming you would not use a bottle like you normally do. And do you find that the substrate in the moss pole falls out a lot or only minimal loss? And can you include which brand of tree fern fiber that you are using?

Another fabulous video! Was wondering though… as I watched this again…I know you usually don’t trim the roots much when you repot your plants …( if they are in good health)and know that some people when repotting, do trim a bunch off and say it stimulates growth? Soooo, as I see from your fabulous Plants, it doesn’t look like you’re wrong… But just was wondering the thought behind that decision? Since there were so many long roots at the bottom there I was wondering why you just didn’t trim them some… Rather than letting go.? thanks again congratulations by the way on your new full time on KZfaq!

I uploaded an update a couple of months ago :) yes you could... but it's also a veritcal extension of the pot & plants can grow roots UP the pole so by giving it half the pole you'd reduce the potential for roots :)
