This is part 3 in my 12" wooden band saw build. In this one I make the quick release tensioner and stiffen the upper part of the frame, plus install the motor and wiring. After running the saw for the first time I made the trunnions and table from 3/4" Baltic birch plywood.

At 1:30 you show some twist when you tighten the blade. Can I assume (since it was not shown) that reinforcing you did solved the issue? Awesome build!

I do enjoy your machine builds and this one is no exception!!! Still trying to find the time to build that 1” wide belt sander…I’ve got a motor and the plans but that’s as far as I’ve gotten so far…cheers

Maybe not intentional, but around the 7:20 mark with the mitre saw, the benefit of scoring the cut before finishing all the way through is demonstrated. The part that is not scored has a little bit of tear out. Cool.

This band saw build is nuts. Maybe one day after retirement I'll have time to build some of these awesome tools. However, for now I'll stick to the easier ones like the clamps that I've been enjoying building!

What a great project this has been. If I didn't have my Shopsmith Bandsaw I'd be tempted to try building this in the future. That small router table may be a possible project for next year however.

I just landed a cheap Craftsman band saw, namely because its trunnion support bracket was a snapped piece of pot metal. I'm earmarking this video for the day I decide to regain the tilt capacity, but for now a hastily constructed plywood mount holds the table on square.

I think you're doing an amazing job building a wooden bandsaw... But... I think you spent more on time and materials than just going out and buying a good used one. I have an 80inch Craftsman bandsaw with a full size tilting table I bought for $60 at a swap meet. Don't get me wrong your video is very interesting and I'm watching the whole thing but still...

some technical remarks. applying one or two coats of linseed oil + therebantine would be a nice and durable finish for your project. for fried parts linseed oil will also help. otherwise paraffin is always a good ally. the oil can also be applied pure on previously heated metal parts. the oil will protect from oxidation when starting the machine you consume 7 times the nominal current, to avoid over consumption (and premature wear of the conductor) you can use a two speed coupling method called star-delta.

When I have watched Mathius make all of his band saws and all the others as well and now you make this band saw and it just enforces my tranquility of mind in going directly to Grizzley and Powermatic and Jet and buying all of my machinery instead jerry-rigging so; something not nearly as good as one being manufactured the right way instead of going through what you and everyone have gone through in making band saws, drum sanders and all the like instead of making something really worthwhile utilizing a better use of your time creating something in finish woodworking. You are a very skilled woodworker, But really?
