From Freddy Mercury to ZDoggMD, the Zoroastrians have been kicking a$$ since 550 BC. Here's one doctor's take on what the heck Zoroastrianism is.
WARNING: this is based mostly on what my parents taught me and may therefore be ENTIRELY bullsh*t 🤘

There are groups that allow people to convert to the religion of Zarathustra in U.S. The Parsis doesn’t accept converts which is kind of weird because even Zarathustra himself converted people to the new religion founded by him.

Yes brother. Vedic religion and Zoroastrianism (Mazdayasna) are basically siblings. Vedic religion chooses Devas as their God and made Asuras evil while Zoroastrianism upholds Ahura Mazda as God and made Daevas the devils. Vedic deities like Indra and Sarva are Daevas in Zoroastrianism. Mithra and Vayu are beings praised in Zoroastrianism and are good ones. Avestan language is a sister language to Sanskrit. Holy verses in Zoroastrianism are also called Manthras. 80% of Avestan language is similar with Sanskrit. Ritual wise they are 80% similar aswell. The Yagna in Vedic religion is called Yasna in Zoroastrianiam. I am a Tamil from Malaysia and I am a practicing Zoroastrian now.

Zoroastrianism is the first religion that introduced the concept of the eternal fight between Good and Evil (Ohrmuzd and Ahriman respectively), which the newer Abrahamic traditions (Christianity and Islam) copied and spread. Fun fact: Tang emperors in China allowed Peroz III to build a Fire shrine in Chang'An after he was kicked out of Persia.

The anti-conversion stance is only held by the denomination he comes from and does not apply for all, many other groups allow it. There is even growing support for the denominations that went to revive conversion as a practice from some people in his one.

It only applies to one denomination, being the Parsis and that’s who the video maker talks about. They do not represent the entirety of Zoroastrians, elsewhere they do allow converts in. It is like with Sunni and Shia with how denominations differ. The ones the video maker talks about are only one, also in the history of Zoroastrianism before the 1800s many converted. European Zoroastrian convert communities existed but are likely to have later on after hundreds of years become Christians because of the claim about Jesus being the messiah. The Alanians also had converts so the video maker is wrong.

Great video mate. Zoroastrianism really needs to accept new converts - even if it was just with Farsi speaking people. I’ve travelled to Iran a couple of times, there are so many Iranians discarding islam. Iranians by nature are very spiritual people, but islam is not compatible for them. Many iranians are not as forgiving as you are for islam’s invasion and destruction in the downfall of the Sassanian dynasty and they are also upset with the downfall of the Pahlavi dynasty. Heck, the islamic government is so insecure they ban their citizens from having Farsi speaking churches, banning Baha’i from attending universities, attending the tomb of Korosh Bozorg on Cyrus the Great Day and in July attending the castle of Babak Khorramdin!! There is a significant growth in Christian converts to the point where Christianity is growing fastest in Iran! Parallel to this, there are people becoming atheists and free thinkers everyday and the islamic regimes massacre of 1500++ Iranian people in November ‘19 will only promote this further. I just think that if Zoroastrians allowed new converts, your religion would have a rebirth. The time is now to reform and rebuild Zoroastrianism. The islamic republic is close to collapse - Iranians who for too long have been hostage under islam are hungry for change, there is an unprecedented Christian movement, along with an atheist explosion, but there is also most certainly demand for a grand Zoroastrian revival in Iran. Long live Iran - Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds.

It does, the video maker didn’t mention the existence of those denominations which do accept converts and the fact historically before the Parsis Zoroastrianism always allowed converts. Ranging from Alania to Europe. Plus some priests from the anti-conversion side who defected to them.

I find this is very difficult for many people to wrap their head around so I think the best example is modern Samaritans & Samaritanism. Samaritans are an ancestral ethnic group. Samaritanism is the traditional religion of that ethnic group. You’re a Samaritan by ancestry regardless of whether you practice the religion or not. But there is great disagreement about whether people of other ancestries are allowed to adopt the ancestral religion. The high priests have allowed women to marry into the community on the condition of conversion so technically it is allowed but many in the community oppose it. Same thing with Zoroastrianism and perhaps even more so. Because Zoroastrianism is decentralized and does not have a single high priesthood that has a final determination on all doctrinal issues you will find that different local and regional groups will line up in different ways, some maintaining the ancestral requirement while others accept or even encourage proselytes of any ancestry. In that case, to be clear, the proselyte has adopted the Zoroastrian religion but that is still distinct from a person like Dr Damania who has Zoroastrian ancestry and retains that ethnic identity regardless of religious practice. I’m not Zoroastrian, just a student & consultant of religious studies who finds these things interesting on an academic and professional level.

Generally it is preferred that a Zoroastrian male marries another Zoroastrian but they can marry a non-Zoroastrian and the children would be accepted as Zoroastrians. However, if a female Zoroastrian marries a non-Zoroastrian, the children will not be accepted as Zoroastrians. You might say that this is a personal choice but as a matter of law, it is governed by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet

I didn't know if we had "Jewish" in our household...... Nose (check) Dark hair (check) Slight skin tone and dark skin tone family story (check).....but we also KNEW for a fact we were scandinavian. Turns out its just that we have a VARIETY of family tree members. ALL continents...... ALL family members somehow or another within the 10th cousin range. Why? Native American ancestry! Some cousins showing Nigerian ancestry like 1%. So "mixed race" but lookin a little Jewish off and on in the family. End of the video...... think about King David. Old guy.....ReD Hair in the BIBLE. Turns out the GENETICS of red-hair last from say "age 2" to the age of 102..... per say. King david didn't die by being thrown in "a pit"....Jews in the family tree sure sure, the stories vary....anything Jeremiah based. But shush..... now. Some may look like Ben Shapiro....but not all. The Prophet Mohammad had teachings of peace and respect to other religions, you can see the proof that he spread peace because his beliefs were in practice for over 100 years after his death in 632AD The Arab Muslim conquest of Persia meant the end of Zoroastrian control, but it did not immediately result in persecution. In fact, the early caliphs adhered to a general policy of religious tolerance. As dhimmī, or legally protected nonbelievers, Zoroastrians were free to worship Ahura Mazdā without punishment. But in the 7th and 8th centuries the Umayyad caliphs introduced a ban on non-Muslim participation in government, affecting Zoroastrian families who had clung to their lingering Sasanian political power. This ban encouraged many Zoroastrians to leave Persia altogether; a substantial number emigrated to nearby India. Modern-day Parsis descend from this refugee population. Please don't make disrespectful claims against the most peaceful and respectful role model to mankind, prophet Muhammad SAW.

While the concerned two Hadiths’ categorically says about raping female war captives, you are to verify authenticity of this narratives, because all scholars agree that there are many weak and fabricated Hadiths’. God says in the Quran: “You shall not accept any information, unless you verify it for yourself. I have given you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brain, and you are responsible for using them”. ( Al Quran # 17:36) In fact there was NO sex slavery in Islam. War captives were just a responsibility to the believers - and God’s test to mankind, as God says in the Quran: “We did not send any messengers before you who did not eat food and walk in the markets. We thus test you by each other; will you steadfastly persevere? Your Lord is Seer” ( Al Quran # 25:20) The word ‘slave’ - or ‘Abd’ in Arabic even does not exist in the Quran to mean war captives; the equivalent term used in the Quran is ‘Ma Malakat Aimanukum’ translated as ‘What your right hands posses’ meaning ‘responsibility you are entrusted with’. After exchange of prisoners of wars, the surplus captives were distributed among the believers to be treated most humanely so that they could assimilate, integrate into the society in line with the Quranic instruction- all human are equal. Caliph Omar’s treatment to his slave on his historic journey to Jerusalem is a glaring example to mankind until the end of time; an example how to treat a male slave - absolutely equally, best possible way even a slave could have ever thought off. So, one should logically think that treatment to female war captives should also be something equivalent to the example shown by Caliph Omar - best possible way a female war captive could have ever thought off - live with dignity, care and protection, not a life of sex slavery, as it used to be in those days. Islam is all about giving a best possible solution, and this is the meaning of the Quranic narrative- ‘bring a Surah like this’. As such, female war captives were entrusted to selected believers with the responsibility of educating, caring and respecting them; then, either to marry or marry them off to other with their full consent; or to free them outright

Oh boy, have I got one for you. This is from my world religions textbook, Invitation to World Religions: "In the seventh century, the Sassanid Empire was overthrown by the Arabs, converts to Islam who were then conquering much of the Middle East. Although the Zoroastrians of Iran now found themselves living under an Islamic government, they managed at first to cope with their new circumstances because the Qur'an calls upon Muslims to be lenient in their treatment of non-Muslims to whom God had given a book of scripture. The Arab conquerors were satisfied that the Avesta, like the Jewish and Christian scriptures, qualified as just such a book. Zoroastrians were required to pay a special tax imposed on all non-Muslims, and there were occasional acts of violence against them, but there was security in the fact that they remained the majority in Iran. But the position of Zoroastrians had deteriorated markedly within a century after the arrival of the Arabs. Zoroastrians were subjected to harassment and violence, priests were executed, fire temples were destroyed or turned into mosques, and books of scripture were burned. Worse, Zoroastrians lost their status as a “People of the Book” and the protections it offered. The dangers of their situation were enough to persuade many Zoroastrians to flee Iran. Of these, most found refuge in western India and eventually established a Zoroastrian community in Mumbai that still thrives today. Many of those who remained in Iran capitulated in the face of Arab persecution and converted to Islam. Conversion was made easier by a legend invented to link Shi'a Islam, the dominant form in Iran, with the Zoroastrian royalty of the Sassanid Empire. According to the story, the fourth Shi’a imam was the son of Husayn, Muhammad’s grandson, and a Sassanid princess. The effect of these and other factors on Iran’s Zoroastrians was dramatic. By the end of the eighth century, they had become a religious minority. By the tenth century, Arab rule of Iran had come to an end. It was replaced by a series of Iranian dynasties, some with Turkish or Kurdish associations, that lasted until the overthrow of the Pahlavi Dynasty in 1979. Throughout this period, the number of Zoroastrians in Iran continued to decline steadily. Those who remained faithful to their religious traditions continued to suffer discrimination, periodic persecutions, and economic hardship."

I can fully appreciate the idea of standing on the bridge of judgement ... each of us ... one day. May wise decisions and compassionate actions permeate the quagmire of religiosity and political power. I choose to follow Him who proclaimed The Way, Truth and Life. Research US Public Law 102-14 and be aware a time is coming when your choice in spiritual-expression will bring you to the ultimate cross-over bridge sooner than later. For further understanding of the insidious shenanigans, check out the Israeli News Live channel with Steven and Jana Ben-Nun. Surely we can only know what we know ... our discernment and ultimately “faith” is a decision.
