Tower of silence tradition is still alive in India by the Zoroastrian community

Zoroastrianism is the oldest monotheistic religion on the territory of present day Iran. It predates the religion of islam. When i was in Iran, i travelled with my iranian friend from tehran to karaj and then from karaj to yazd. Yazd is the ancient city in central part of Iran in the midst of the desert. It is the center of zoroastrianism. I have climbed to the top of the towers of silence in yazd and the look from these towers was absolutely amazing. I truly enjoyed a lot.

Not one of the first religions to believe in one single god, but THE FIRST religion to do it and also the basis for judaism, christianity and islam (basically all abrahamic religions). Also the first to bring up the philosophy of dualism, good vs evil, the balance between them (like yin and yang, but even earlier). This religion was so popular that it spread all the way to the british Isles in roman times (Mithraism). This religion was strongly based in a "human rights" perspective and against slavery. I'm in, Zarathustra! Finally, I find something gentle and lovely that predates and yet inspires Christianity, Islam, and other fundamentalist religions. No, they do not "worship" fire. It is an elemental means of meditation to reach the One Creator, much like the Catholic rosary. and similar means. How refreshing to realise that, so long ago, this ancient Persian mystic also understood that "God" is genderless!

I feel very bad. Intolerance of Islam almost destroyed a beautiful gift to humanity by ancient Persians in form of Zoroastrianism, a culmination of human struggle to make world a peaceful place to live. Even today, though Iran now a Islamic country but you get a feel of that culture in the behaviour of common people of this country.

I really bow down to the peaceful and honest preaching of Zoroastrianism. But their thought of sky burial is not suitable for my understanding. I would prefer to mix with soil, I do not think I will pollute the soil (Infact, the dead animals and plant residues enrich the soil like a fertilizer). I would not want to get burried with concrete. Only my difference is the burial doctrine. Aside that, I strongly condemn people who call them fire-worshippers.

well my theory goes like asura was a term for humans, or something which portray humans, their gods which of cource ruled over humans were also asuras, now I think these terms were from a time when sumerians and assyrians were the popular kingdoms, the sumerians were just banished people from the akkadians govt, sumerians looked black and to distinguish themselves from their adversary the akkadians made some changes in their names, now they named themselves dev-asura, the changed asuras, and that, asuras are those who are ignorent implying the akkadians for their unruly behavior towards them. Now the thing is if you bear with me. I think the sumerians were the ones that led on to create the Indus valley civilization when pushed and pressured to leave their land in sumer, they then went on to make indra, Shiva and other gods we know of. Now the akkadians were the adversary , now both these groups were actually the follower of the same faith, but made some changes in names, later on one such king named Zoroaster(possibly a descendent of akkadians) made his own religion which we now know as Zoroastrianism and the now pushed sumerians which were in the Indian subcontinent were living their life peacefully. Now with the passage of time. The newer generation of white males pushed these somewhat docile sumerians into the south of persent day india and is what we know them of as dravidians, the new white people now came to India and made themselves the authority over other people and what greater an authority is greater than the authority of the religion, so they (Aryan invasion) moved into India, collected the knowledge of the sumerians and classified their gods as the prime gods - vishnu and brahma and wrote down the collective knowledge they now posesses(Vedas and upnishads) and indicated that the gods that you(dravidians) follow like ram, krishna and other notable/popular/respected people were just reincarnations of our God(vishnu) to know superiority, so now accept this caste system we present you and be with it. And the rest of India kinda accepted it. You might realise that there is no proper hierarchy in Hinduism. Their is somewhat ambiguous roles of bhrama and vishnu and most of the importance however given to shiva but equivalent place is given to vishnu without much involvement in any of the stories expect for claiming the glory and indra the true king of heaven is not revered as much. I don't know I can be utterly wrong at many places entirely wrong on the whole concept. It's something that just came up to my mind that's it. I am open to positive discussion though.

It says in Islam that our lord (Allah, Elohim, Azura different names for the same god) sent messengers to people explaining about who god is and what our lives are for. Salvation from sin and hell is not earned through works or deeds or pilgrimages or rituals or ceremonies or traditions or cultures or meditations or public displays or hypocrisy or making personal sacrifices or making animal sacrifices. Salvation from sin and hell is free, but not cheap. Because Jesus Christ laid His life on The Cross, and resurrected. God loves the sinner, but hates the sin. Just like a parent loves child, but hates disease in child. We are saved by God's grace, not by our works. Karma is getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we don't deserve. Only Grace can be pre-fixed with word Amazing. Amazing Grace. Karma is not Amazing, it is depressing. GRACE: Getting what we don't deserve - i.e. forgiveness of sin, eternity in heaven through Jesus Christ. MERCY: Not getting what we deserve - i.e. punishment of sin, separation from God, eternity in hell. Other side of death is eternity. Either in hell; or in heaven through Jesus Christ. God offers grace and mercy for free through Jesus Christ death and resurrection. Jesus Christ suffered, ridiculed, spat-on, humiliated, crucified on The Cross, and therefore He understands our pain. He raised victorious, we will too. Those who endure till end are victorious. Jesus Christ coming again to judge all. The doors will be closed. Jesus Christ reveals every mystery, answers every question. We all deserve to know the truth. He is The Alpha and The Omega. He judges everyone. One day every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. The First Christmas - Jesus Christ came to earth from heaven to save us from pre-existing sin. The Lamb and The Lion. Jesus Christ forgave all who crucified Him, and now forgives all, even who reject, ridicule and mock Him. He loves all unconditionally. Believe, trust, repent of pre-existing sin in Jesus Christ that He died for remission of our sins and resurrected, and coming back to judge, accept Him as Lord and Saviour, and be saved from sin and hell. Any time, any where. Even now. Simple. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. I found God loved me regardless of sins, weaknesses and rejections by others. As sinner I cannot save myself through deeds. He believed me and has faith in me. I am not in competition with others. God loves you all, individually. (My journal.
