Hi Doddy, I bought a Canyon's bike 3 months ago but I didn't have any shipping problems. The shipment time indicated was more or less one 1 months but they even sent me an email saying that my bike will come in 2 weeks! I've also sent few e-mails to the customer care and they were really kind. I also think more people are coming into this beautiful sport because lot of countries are doing incentives for bikes. I love this channel and I've seen all videos. Cheers!!

Fun fact, here in Australia we usually look at the ibis(bin chicken) with disgust as they forage through bins usually and smell horribly. when i learnt that the bike brand ibis was actually named after the bird itself i wondered what was going through there head, madness.

I bought a new bike this past fall. I did not have a problem as I live in Germany, so I decided to purchase a Canyon Spectral. Those bikes already seemed like a good deal as they were specked higher than other bikes in the same category and price range. I had my bike within one week from the day I ordered, I got lucky on that and I know it. I have seen a problem with everything else being in short supply though. I am being patient though and I continue to order from CRC in the UK for all of my gear. As a Yank living in Europe, I try to support my English speaking brothers across the pond. Keep up the good work GMBN!!

I can’t lie it’s a shame that more people don’t buy British bikes. I’d pre order a Whyte and they said I would have to wait 8 months for my bike. I couldn’t be asked I paid more for a orange the guys at Orange where supper helpful can’t recommend them enough even though it’s a bit more expensive they are soooooo worth it. Tips for bike shopping: look up your brands' dealer pages, take note of your country's retailers which you haven't heard of, give them (first those without a web presence) a call and see if they can have a look in their store or inventory for your model, size and color. I was desperate (after deliberate discussions) after a new 24" Orbea Laufey (black one look soo sweet!) for my son and all the big, regular and even all small retailers with eStores in Sweden, Germany and GB (those are my usual shopping countries) were out and said they would not be getting any more 2021 models!! I've been on the hunt for a new bike since November, wasn't having any luck with finding what I wanted in stock. I looked at the privateer 141 but the lead time was June 2021 I couldn't believe it. The Airdrop Edit V4 was up on the list but they had sold out, so thought I'd email them to see if on the off chance they had an ex demo or something kickin around the workshop that I could buy. That day was my lucky day, James got back to me and they had a Medium Raw frame sat there unsold and not listed as stock. Woohoo new bike being delivered in 3 to 4 weeks. I work in the Marine leisure trade, 90% of our stock comes from the east, the Remaining 10% from Belgium. Between Cov19 and Brexit its been a disaster trying to supply the demand. We would be minted if we actually had physical product to sell. Loving the show BTW guys all the Gmbn material is making the lock down a little easier, keep it up and stay safe!

Marin Headlands 2 arriving tomorrow. Have had to wait about 6 weeks for it to appear as pre-order and then pounce as the stock didn't last very long at all. In that time the price increased $300 Australian ,just over 8%. Only had to wait 2 weeks after pre-order, but I was sweating on the website every day waiting for the 'out of stock' sign to go. So all up not too bad considering what some people are having to wait. Six weeks out from Christmas i couldn't get my current bike in to a bike shop for repair because they were all too busy with pre Christmas stuff and existing repairs. Upside, bought some tools and tuned into GMBN to learn how to do repairs.

To the question of buying a bike and the shipping time. At the end of December I pulled the trigger on a megatower and I was lucky to find one is stock with leasure lake, they where very helpful and answered all my silly questions. Ended up getting my bike 3 days after purchase, I'm glad I got my bike when I did. Fast forward to last week I tried to buy a cannondale habit for the Mrs and everyone was either out of stock or had xs & xl. phoned a few shops and earliest possible delivery 4 to 6 weeks. Had a look online and found a nice second hand 2017 stumpy close to home. Now the Mrs and I are eagerly awaiting spring time to get out for some weekend adventures.

Great video thank you. So a few months ago I began researching mountain bikes. After a month or so I went to my local bike shop here in the USA. Just like you were saying he did not have much and did not know when he would get any new product. I search the web for bike within a 50 mile radius from home. I found one At a shop north of us. So my wife and I made a trip to this bike shop. The 2021 Kona process 134 was still there. I talked to the owner for a while about the bike. He said he could not tell me when he might get something different in. So I bought the Kona. I’m so glad I did because I really want to ride in the spring, and if I didn’t get this bike I might have to ride my old Diamond back 26 bike. Take care.

Honestly this is why there is a problem: (Note: First world countries are most European countries and the US* at least for now) The first world countries ALL signed NAFTA. (North American Free Trade Agreement) or it's equivalent to get rid of all tariffs and taxes on imports into 1st world countries back in the 90s. The 1st world then continued on with all their regulations and taxes on factories. Each state in the US had local regulations the factories were required to adhere to, along with Federal regulations, regulations such as hiring requirements, wage requirements, safety standards, environmental protections,, etc. The 1st world also offers workers rights, safety standards for employees, Unions, paid vacations and benefits like health insurance and paid time off, and factories are required to make safe products and the consumers are provided protections also. All of these factors, were the reason why we were seeing bikes being built in the US with $3000 price tags back in the early 90s and 2000s. Being built in the US and Europe meant you were getting a certain type of quality that you don't get from China, India or Mexico. But it also meant you were going to pay for it. After NAFTA (and its equivalent for Europe) was implemented, almost all factories in the 1st world shut down. Because Bike companies saw how cheap China, India and Mexico could make their frames and components (pennies on the dollar) compared to the $1000 each it costed to manufacture the bikes in the US, the bikes from the 3rd world would cost less than $500 each to manufacture. China, India and Mexico have none of these regulations. They have no safety standards, No EPA, no workers rights, no unions, and they exploit all of this. ALL bike companies order their bike components at the end of each year from the same factories in China. The same factories will build Wal Mart bike frames also build all the major brands in the US that are in your local bike shops. They go to trade shows and sign deals with bike companies to manufacture bike frames and other components. Once the factory has filled it's orders for one company, they move on to the next companies orders. So if one company needs more bikes, they will have to wait until that factory finishes it's orders with other companies first before it can meet the demand of new orders. These companies did not expect such a demand for their product, so this is the end result. Trump ended Nafta for the US, so now the bike companies are going to have to more than likely start producing their frames and components back in the 1st world, because they are going to start losing money by using the 3rd world factories, because of all the Tarriffs and Taxes on imports Trump implemented. Biden will bring back NAFTA. Source: I researched a bunch before I bought my bike, was looking for an american made bike and couldn't find a company that sold one, so ended up with a Trek. All bikes and bike components are now made in China, India and Mexico. They are only assembled in the first world at your local bike shops. The closest thing I saw when I bought my bike to "Made in america" was a few component companies and a few cruiser companies that actually made bikes in the US. Not what I was looking for at the time.

Sold my 2018 process 153 last year just before bikes became rarer than the proverbial. Was looking at getting a Reactor 290 pro but XL's just didn't exist - went to Proof's list of authorised dealers on website and emailed everyone and wait times varied from a few months to nearly a year...and surprisingly only really comp specs. But, it did give me time to really evaluate my riding, what I wanted from a bike and the terrain I ride. Browsing on Tredz one day (other online stores available) saw a Yeti SB115 in XL in stock and took the leap. With everything going on was dubious I'd get it the right side of Christmas (ordered early Oct) and two weeks later was out riding it. Best decision made in a long time as the geo harks back to bikes I loved as a teen and has made riding that much more fun again. Goes to show extended lead times ain't always a bad thing. P.S 3 outta 3 on the quiz - happy days!

The massive uptake in cycling in my local area and a lack of shop made me put together a plan to open a shop of my own to support it - hit a brick wall when trying to source stock; there's barely enough tools and consumables available to fill a workshop, never mind parts & frames to sell. Hopefully this is as bad as it gets, I don't imagine smaller shops will survive much longer without anything to sell.

We are getting bike but threw much communication and we taking our hat off to our sales reps, they are working their asses of to get as many of their shops bikes as possible and trying their best to make it fair for all shops. We also use QBP, JBI, HLC, BTI, Trek, KHS and some direct site for our parts and still very difficult to get parts. Wheels set, group sets, suspension all very difficult at the moment. Shop managers/owners need to be on top of it daily if they want bikes or parts.

I recently changed from a gravel bike into a full suspension XC mtb to enhance my adventure racing experience. The problem was finding the bike. I had no idea that bikes would be impacted to this extent. After bouncing around several bike shops that had zero inventory with the next forecasted deliveries in August I got a bit despondent. I needed something sooner and even the proposed shop dates didn't guarantee sizes or models. I live in Austin, Texas and was fortunate to have multiple places to shop. I finally was able to find an instock bike from a Trek store. As a matter of fact they still had quite the selection. I don't know their presence in the UK, but here in ATX they are a good bet if you're looking for instock bikes and parts.

As someone who has worked in bike shops, the demand for bicycles didn't necessarily create additional demand for my employment. The reluctance of potential employers to take me on full time was quite high, bike shop owners were afraid to commit to anything because they were unable to confirm they'd have stock to keep selling or repairing bikes with, and the workloads were very erratic because of this. Not to mention, another lockdown and they'd be paying wages during that time to yet another staff member, something a lot of them just can't afford to do. And this is coming from New Zealand, where we've had it exceptionally good compared to the rest of the world.

Girlfriend loved my bike so much she ended up with a CUBE Access e-MTB, again last in the shop, next re-supply was 2021. Talking with friends in Japan recently, said they cannot buy a bike for love nor money. 2021 is going to be a rough year for new bikes. My bike is now £700 more expensive to buy this year, crazy.

Spoke with a local shop owner/builder here in the US and his component orders were essentially sold out from under him. He blames the larger manufactures for some of this "component hoarding" and it's effecting his ability to spec frames for sale. I mentioned to him that if he thinks market manipulation by the larger companies like Giant, Specialized, Trek, etc is having an effect now wait until the likes of Yamaha, Honda, and Bosch have a greater hold of the industry as a result of E-bike sales. A company like Giant who does $1.9b vs. a company like Yamaha who does $3.8b won't stand a chance. It's a slippery slope and eventually the larger manufactures will be begging for scraps at a table they once owned. We as consumers will likely benefit with less expensive bikes/E-bikes but with significantly fewer choices (much the same as the power sports industry is now).

I plan to clean the bike up and put those tires back on so I can send pics for rewind. It’s the NORBA downhill champion bike, now it would be considered more of an xc bike. I think is had a whopping 50 mil travel front and rear.

Look into this: the components specifically are incredible, the wheels sets are amazing, and the ride is amazing! It's an all day, do all, no compromise machine. 190MM front and 170 rear. You may be missing the boat by not looking at this amazing ENDURO. Sorry they don't sponsor your channel, but being bias is not the way. I look forward to your reply. SS

I nearly ordered a 2021 Orbea Occam for around £2,000 back in September but the delivery was expected in May 2021. I ended buying an On One Scandal hardtail from Planet X instead as it was in stock and also only £999 with a full Sram GX Eagle 12 speed groupset. Really pleased with it!

For years and years it has been cheaper to manufacture a new shipping container at the point of origin than to send the empty ones back and try to fill them with goods needed. That's why there's been such a huge uptick in people building tiny homes and businesses utilizing them as facilities.

With the huge uptake in demand last year, many bike manufacturers switched all production to sub £1,000 bikes of more general/less specialist types, as this was where all the new demand came from. Cube even cancelled all orders over 1500 at own point. So many of those who watch mtb channels who would likely spend more (on average) than 1k, will struggle with some brands, especially shop sold brands mainly.

I ordered two bikes in September, an Orbea Oiz for me, and a Nukeproof Cub Scout 26 Race for my son. The Orbea is ordered through their site for delivery to an LBS here in New Hampshire, and the estimated ship date is March 1st. Fingers crossed that date is accurate and I get my bike sometime in March/April in time for the season. The Nukeproof is through a small dealer in NY state and he was hoping to get them last year, but they weren't in the shipment he received last year and he's now expecting them in February. Unfortunately as a result of Brexit there are additional fees to be paid (UK now exporting to US under WTO terms?) and the price is looking to increase by ~20%! The dealer did say that Nukeproof has been doing better than other brands getting bikes out, but it sucks to have to pay more because it's arriving in 2021 and not 2020!

I bought a 2021 Specialized Roll Sport in November. The LBS had one in stock and it was my size. After riding the bike and loving it for a month I decided I wanted a mtb. So, back to the LBS and they had ONE Specialized Rockhopper Elite, also in my size. I couldn't believe it! Thought I'd have to order and wait. So I rode out on my new Rockhopper (great bike BTW!) and now I have two new bikes. I totally lucked out.

I have a Husqvarna Hard Cross 8 2021 eMTB on order since September last year. I looked at KTM first as I own 2 already for my wife and myself ( conclusion from the biggest KTM dealer in Belgium, too late, already sold out for Belgium for the year 2021 ), then Cube ( waiting estimates for April 2021 back in Sept 2020 already and some crazy story if the factory has issues during the week your bike was scheduled to be produced, it wouldn't get postponed, just cancelled ). So eventually I went for Husqvarna, I really like how they look + the new EP8 ( that was recalled by Shimano in 2020 for some technical issues ( that doesn't help either doesn't it , what a mayor problem for them at the worst time possible ). So the Husky has been postponed twice already, several calls to the dealer, from the dealer to the sales representative for Belgium. Long story short, the system mentions a delivery date now of end of January that should be correct. Tomorrow is my birthday, I really hope it's at the shop now, I didn't dare to call more early this week. Fingers crossed.

So here in South Africa 🇿🇦 I recently got a new bike and let me tell you the mission of finding bikes in stock is unreal. Exactly the same scenario, the stock is expected but the shops just don't know when. And as an example Titan Racing which is a popular bike here for many, their Drone line up has increased in price by R4000 (South African Rand) or £191 from 2020 to the new 2021 models

What’s really frustrating in my opinion is that many brands WILL NOT ship to your home. You have to go through a dealership...I understand warrant and stuff like that but if I could just pay for one and get put on a waiting list and get one sent as it is available would make it better. I’ve got shops that have the bike I want but they are 800+ miles away....

Had a 2021 GT Avalanche Expert on order for months and that 'disappeared' at the docks back in November, but I was in my LBS trying to sort it out I got lucky and dropped on a 2021 Cube Reaction TM they had in stock and ready to go. it was a hundred and fifty quid or so more expensive but I figured that the extra outlay would be offset by the fact it came with a dropper post installed. So I snapped their arm off and rode it away. Was on the Cube site a few days back looking for a new helmet and noticed that the Reaction TM has shot up to £1499.

Hi Doddy, I’m a born again biker at 70, catching up on new tech, and tuning my bike, with your help. I’ve got a Cube Attention hard tail 29er, that I bought in 2012, which has had more use in the last year than in the previous 7! One thing that is still a pain to me is the saddle. While it has improved, as I’ve done more miles, I still get some discomfort from it. Any chance you could do a feature, or even a full program, on choice of saddle? I notice you all use Ergon saddles. Any reason for this. Their website recommends a gel saddle for me, but it is comparatively expensive, so I don’t want to just go for it, without some confidence that it will improve my ride. Thanks. Roger.

Another great show, thanks Doddy! Like you, riding is key therapy for my frame of mind. The fitness benefits are part of it of course because being physically fit helps create a positive mental attitude, but the stress relief and overall psychological benefits of riding are absolutely essential for me. Some focus on that by GMBN would be great I think; e.g., a brief survey of scientific studies on the subject. And I am certainly glad to hear that your elevated heart rate incident is not serious! :)

In my part of Canada, MTBs are scarce. My LBS was sold out and the bikes they ordered that were to arrive in March 2021 were spoken for anyway. My top choices were a Giant Trance 29 and a Specialized Stumpjumper 29. These two brand's corporate websites provide current information on where specific models are in stock across Canada. I called a bike shop, located a 4 hour drive away, and bought my bike. So... check the manufacturer's website of the bike you want and see if they provide current stock information; you might find the bike you want. Bonne chance!

Bike parts, the ones still available, here in the US on ebay, cost about 25% more compared to last March when I ordered parts for my last build. I built up a Cotic Soul, been a great bike! Glad I built it then, it saved me quite a bit of money. I was nudged into early action due to Cotic telling me the Soul frame I wanted to buy was one of the last two they had in stock in my size.
