I have a Bible, I've had it for 56 years, read pretty much all of it. I'm reading Josephus now, has all the same people but comes from a different perspective.

I bet that's a beautiful Bible. Have you looked into the dispensations? I'm looking at them as more of a historical perspective based on time and going verse by verse. It's helping me look at what I'm reading in a more systematic way that matches how I my brain works.

You know there were four Punic Wars, today is like yesterday. The Punic Wars were a series of wars between 264 and 146 BC fought between the Roman Republic and Ancient Carthage.

Currently I've not yet reached the point of enough, but it is within sight. Along the way to getting there I can already share with less fortunate people. Religion is a difficult and controversial topic. Apart from other objections Pascal's Wager doesn't mention to which god the wager is applicable. It's one of the reasons why I'm skeptical about any monotheistic religion as they are exclusive communities: you're either part of such a religious community or not. In the hands of power hungry people a monotheistic religion, as history has abundantly demonstrated, all too often is used as a divisive tool. Personally, I gravitate towards the buddhist idea of sunyata: the idea of absolute nothingness. This idea is often misunderstood as nihilistic, but it's quite the opposite. Absolute nothingness is boundless and, thus, provides room for everything. Consequentially, all kinds of religion are recognized as sources of inspiration to draw from regarding the vicissitudes of life.

Hi Cycling Philosopher! I bet your close and I know you'll get there. I agree about religion being controversial and haven't ever been part of a religion. Growing up, we never went to church. My grandmother might have been Buddhist, but never talked with me about anything. My mother mentioned Protestant once or twice, but we didn't even have a Bible in our home. In college, I was introduced to Job, Psalms, and Proverbs from a secular point of view. It was many years later when I started to read the Bible, but stopped several times and then searched every other belief system I could find including Buddhism. It was quite an interesting and eye opening journey. Since then, I've read the Bible several times along with different commentaries like Spurgeon and McGee that were interesting, but left me still very confused. Now, I'm absolutely enjoying verse by verse study under the concept of "rightly dividing" the Bible. It's the first time I'm able to understand the Bible from a more historical and timely perspective. It will be a great help if I can gain a strong background in history now. What I'm learning of power hungry people as I study history is upsetting to say the least, but it's time to push on. If I think of 'enough' from a level of knowledge, I've got a very long way to go.
