Hey Becca! I’m not a mom but I am a Labor Nurse:) I think you should definitely pack some cheap slippers bc a lot of moms get very hot during labor and the first thing to go is the socks. Better to have them.. than not to have them. Your hair... what about two French braids and put it in a low bun? I think you have everything else covered! So happy and excited for you two!

I ended up bringing mascara and foundation to my birth center and I was glad I did. I had a long labor and when the night turned to day, my midwife made me wash my face and put on makeup to restart the day and it was helpful for some reason!! I’m so excited for you. My son was was born six years ago on nov 28th so memories are coming back and my second is coming in March 💕

Don't even bring underwear... bring depends (I'm so serious), and lots of them... And chapstick... my husband was literally my hero because My lips got so chapped and he ran down to the gift shop and bought one for me. Snacks! I was SOOOOO hungry both time after giving birth, especially since you really can't eat while in labor. Also, you DO NOT want hair in your face, definitely. Giving birth is a totally unique experience for everyone. We all generally know what happens, but no two births are alike. So just remember what one person says you need or will happen, it won't necessarily apply to your birth. Trust your instincts, and know that you are AMAZING. Same when you transition to mom-life. YOU DO YOU

The entire earth mama angel baby line for postpartum for you and baby is amazing! So many of their products saved my life especially the bottom spray and the diaper balm for the babe. Also get some energizing snacks and coconut water or electrolytes. Protein bars, honey sticks, trail mix will all give a good boost of energy if your body is exhausted ❤️❤️ Love that you’re promoting a birth center birth! Labor doesn’t have to be seen as a medical emergency from the get go! Good luck girl 💋

Nursing pillow was really handy. Honestly I didn’t use much when i gave birth - I way over packed. Simple pjs for baby is a lifesaver! I also pack just basic makeup and a pair of slippers to walk around in but I got cheap ones so I could throw them after 😬 I also really loved having super comfy loose clothing so a zip up sweatershirt, cami and knit skirt were some of my go to items. My labor was almost 24 hours so it was rough and I almost had to have a c-section so I would say if there’s anything that makes you feel relaxed and at home bring it! I brought my own pillow but made sure to put a patterned brighter pillow case on so it didn’t get mixed up with their pillows. Hope something in here was helpful ❤️ Wish you all the best. Oh and ps oils for recovery are amazing! 👍🏻

I don't know what your birth centre is like in terms of space/supplies in the waitikng area but my family was there for my daughter's birth from 5am until we left at 12pm (3 hours after her birth). I had cookie making supplies and tea and snacks for them to pass the time in the lounge /kitchen area. The birth centre had everything else. Good luck to you. Giving birth at a birth centre was amazing. I loved being aware for every moment and wouldn't change it for the world.

The tub and the birthing ball were definitely my best friend during my natural birth. I honestly purchased so many nursing bras, but got so sick of the little clips, so I started to just pull down my bralette when I nursed my daughter at home. My daughter just turned one and I am still nursing and that’s just what has worked for me. But after birth, no bra. You’re honestly doing so much skin to skin that taking it off and putting it on was USELESS. I think in your case slippers might not be necessary if you’re going to be out fairly quick, but my labor ended up being 36 long hours and slippers were great because my belly was huge and I was not in the mood to pull on and off socks. I braided my hair loosely during labor and would clip my braid up when I was in the tub because my hair doesn’t stay in a bun either. You’ve got this girl! So excited to hear how everything goes! Sending good and happy vibes your way!

I would recommend having different size pads at home - a size for the different phases of bleeding. I had a baby this last May and I had the huge diaper sized pads but nothing else. I remember walking painfully through Target having to get more pads since my husband had no idea what to get for me. And as for a natural labor, just remember to take it one contraction at a time. I was lucky to have a quick labor in the tub but thinking only in the moment was very helpful.

So glad you pulled that fan out! That was my favorite item to use with both of my labors. I chose to have them both drug free and the fan helped me throughout the whole process. I thought I would’ve wanted to be up and moving around and all I wanted to do both times was lay in the hospital bed and be fanned haha. And definitely take those headphones! I used my hypnobirthing soundtrack with headphones the first time around and played it with a speaker the second time. I much preferred the headphones because they kept noise drowned out so I could focus. I think you’ve packed really well! I did take slippers, but I delivered both in a hospital and knew I’d be staying there a couple of days. They were helpful with those cold floors! Ha

Sara Price I so agree with this! Labor stories are unique stories that will teach you so much, so let the story write itself. I was going to have an all natural birth and knew she was going to enter the world in 5 hours max, but 36 hours of labor and a c-section later, I learned that I need to let go of control.
@saraprice4348
@saraprice4348 5 жыл бұрын
Felecia Maxfield I agree with you for sure! I hope Becca doesn’t think I’m trying to be negative or critical I just see this a lot and it’s so real and close to home as a first time mommy myself. First time babies are so unpredictable and when we put so much pressure on ourselves or have these expectations we can be so disappointed or take it personally if it doesn’t work out the way we think it should. My son was completely breached and we were advised to have a c section or wait to see if he’d turn (after we tried multiple ways to get him to turn) we opted for the section. I have to tell you that I am so glad I did because he never turned and when they took him out they literally had to yank him because he was holding onto my ribs for dear life. I also felt at peace because I knew I’d done everything I could do, and there wasn’t any shame whatsoever in my birthing plan. If I’d have waited I don’t think it would’ve went so well. And we had a beautiful boy, the surgery went well, and I was told my recovery was miraculous!
@BeccaBristow

I appreciate it Sara! I fully understand birth is unpredictable, but dwelling on what could go "wrong" won't serve me in the least! Just trying to keep it super positive and envision the birth I want :)

Becca Bristow I understand being positive about everything, and I’m not criticizing you at all for being excited and prepared, there isn’t anything wrong with that at all. Please do not think I’m negative; I was just trying to point out that unmet expectations can have negative effects that a person can take personally. You will have a wonderful birth no matter how it takes place. I truly meant no offense. I actually get a lot out of your channel and have always perceived you as open minded and willing to listen to your subscribers point of view....so please don’t imply that I’m not supporting you because I am and have never written any rude comments to you ever.
@HeidiRoux
@HeidiRoux 5 жыл бұрын
@@saraprice4348 I agree with you! Becca you are well prepared BUT don't be to set on how you want the birth to go. Anything can happen. I think Sara just want to say be prepared for what will be if things don't go as you are envisioning them to go. Maybe just think of a plan b or c and wrap your mind around that! In the end all that matters is that you and baby girl are ok and healthy!

Do not forget to take that tennis ball. Rubbing my back was the best thing. also nursing pillow was huge to have because its very difficult to hold them at first. I felt very weak but my labor was 30+ hours and 1.5 hrs of pushing. Cross the body was our favorite hold which is still what works best for us at 4 months.

I’ve had two birth center births and what you have seems right on! I would also say flip flops/slippers for labor (you may want to walk outside), chapstick and mints/gum...couldn’t stand hubby’s breath too close to me without 🙈. Neither of mine had diapers or wipes so you’re good there. And someone else mentioned it but there is only one breast pad in the package...make sure to air dry after nursing sessions then put nipple cream on or those pads stick 😫.

Chapstick. definitely slippers with good grip because if you are in the tub you don’t want to walk with wet feet to your bed. I know you’re planning on using coconut oil but aquifer is also really good and you can use it for yourself as well to lube up any raw or rough skin, a couple different newborn pacifiers (controversial but if she’s full term she will be fine using them and sometimes kiddos are born paci lovers and are just upset without one). Since she’s your first, maybe a Velcro swaddler just in case you or hubs get frustrated while learning the blanket technique. A cute hat might be warmer than a bow when you actually go to leave. If you have cloth car seats you might want to sit on a towel on the way home so have one in the car. Baby hair brush. Baby wash cloth so you can use warm water instead of cold baby wipes to get into neck crevices etc after feeding. Good luck! I’m excited to see you guys go through this process. Can’t wait to hear all about your next chapter as parents.

Check into making some postpartum padsicles with your YL oils. I wasn’t using YL when my babies were born, but I have friends that swear by them after labor!! Look them up! Also, YL chapstick is the bomb. You will probably want some to keep your lips from being too dry.

My water broke and I didn’t progress enough for an epidural so I labored naturally for over 36 hours and sitting or laying down was HORRIBLE so I stood and danced most of the time. I would highly recommend cheap slippers or thick grippy socks in case you experience the need to stay on your feet.

Some personal items. I’m only a few min in but for me, I got size 4 always brand pads. I had severe PP hemorrhaging which was almost uncontrollable. Strongly suggest having everyone wait until you come home especially if it’s after a few hours. You’ll be so out of it, tired, learning to feed and handling your baby. I promise you as a FTM don’t overwhelm yourself with guests. I’d get hemorrhoid cream and stuff in case you get them from pushing, as well as a stool softener and or a laxative to help you “go” after you have your baby! I always think everyone over packs. You’ll more than likely live in what you delivered in, you may change. Get the blue bottle of dermaplast to help if you tear or get an episiotomy, and get tucks pads. Bring what makes you comfortable! I’d bring slippers it’s cute and comfy. Your feet may be swollen. So I’d get some! You can make padsicles, its aloe and witchazel on a pad and you freeze it, look into epsom salt baths and get a few squirt bottles for down there! Get a bin to keep in your bathroom for your pads and squirt bottle tucks pads etc. also for your bedside keep a couple water bottles, get another small bin to keep a few midnight snacks in for when you feed! Take labor as it goes. I wanted my hair out of my face plus I was hot and sweating. You can take cute pics after with your hair down! Just enjoy it. Be present in the moment of your sweet baby, don’t rush guests the moment she’s born because you’ll want to soak her up and not pass her to everyone else. Sleep when she sleeps. She’ll go into a deep sleep after she’s born and feeds, definitely sleep when she does at that point because you won’t be sleeping much while in labor, which can be very long! Good luck 🤗

I totally agree with the no guests.. especially if you’re at the birthing centre for only a few hours. The first hours are such precious beautiful moments. Time you and your husband will spend meeting your sweet new baby 💕 concentrating on breastfeeding and resting.

It would be better to have a gown that buttons down in the front during labour as it would be easier for skin to skin and normally the baby will start breastfeeding after birth. So I would suggest no bra during labour. The last thing I want to be thinking after labour is removing my tshirt and bra.... I wanted to bring a radio for my hynobirthing audio but fortunately the hospital that I delivered had them there... I had a wonderful hynobirthing experience in 2016 and waiting for no 2 in 3 weeks time... around the same time as you will.. just enjoy your birthing experience. P.S. Milk will kick in pretty quickly especially if we are doing hynobirth. I was able to feed right after labour.. right now at 37 weeks my colostrum is already there. You can check and see if yours is already in. PLS DONT USE PEPPERMINT as it decrease milk supply... I dont even dare to go close to any peppermint scent at the moment.

Oh I doubt I will still be wearing the dress by the end lol once I'm int he tub it won't be going back on! And that's a good point about the bra - who knows if it will still be on lol but the RNs said as long as there's clips in the back the can snap it off super quick! So that's good. So awesome to hear about your hypnobirth experience! And I won't be applying peppermint! Just smelling it if need be :) I'm personally completely comfortable with that and my midwives fully support it :)

Highly highly recommend slide on sandals in a large size (I wore my husband's Haha) because your feet may swell and it will be nice for moving around the room and shower/ tub(and you can put socks on under lol). I also recommend bringing a pair of shorts and sandals for hubby if you labor in the shower/ tub. I also packed a button up shirt for my husband so he can do skin to skin easily with baby (without being shirt less). For labor, your shirt dress is so cute. But you may want a light tank and no bra (or be naked Haha) cuz you'll be sweating like you've never sweat before!!! It will also be easier for skin to skin Haha. Having the fan and the water with a straw are amazing!!!! It will be nice to have on hand after baby comes too 😀 All the best to you and your husband and your baby. Labor and delivery is a lot of work but it is the most beautiful and amazing experience!!!

Adult diapers for the win! They were the most comfortable for the first 1-2weeks postpartum. Are they going to provide a peri bottle for you to use while you're there? I'd bring one if they don't. Also may want to bring just a couple burp cloths for baby. She may be coughing up some residual gunk that first day. I found them very helpful for a lot of things and hardly take up any room. Praying for smooth delivery for you and sweet baby girl!
