I also use the Pocket 3 for behind the scenes stuff and other things, HOWEVER for most my work I need much higher video and photo quality for client work. So while I usually have it with me I don't mention it in this video

I agree and thankfully now the tools we have available make it possible! No more having to take 2 camera bodies for video/photo work or many different lenses even. I love this setup especially after field testing it with you when you were up here!

Really like this gear setup video, but I’ve been really loving all your videos recently! Could you do a cold weather clothing video? I noticed you talk about the gloves in a previous video but you wear the same stuff in all sorts of really cold looking environments so I’d love to hear your cold weather gear for hiking!

Agreed Bob! I didn't show it in this video but I always have a first aid kit and a Garmin inreach, as well as what is necessary to handle whatever sorts of weather I will be dealing with

those hand warmers are a MUST for me in the winter both to warm my hands up and to keep my batteries from freezing up

Thank you for the overview! I had not thought about hand warmers for my gear! Seeing this, I'm really regretting going with a 35L pack on the last Prime Day. It's still in the box because it's just so large. I told myself I'd want to carry both drones AND camera gear, but in reality, I'm going to be taking one or the other. 25L would have been plenty.

Yeah, Shimoda has insanely cool backpacks. Imo the new action line is even better than the explore.

Great call on Shimoda. I have been using their bags for several years (and was an ambassador for them). Love their ethos and attention to detail. The Explore v2 bag is probably the best bag you can get. I use the Explore v2 30 because it fits my 16” MBP. Otherwise, I’d likely go down to the 25. I’ve been eyeing the Peak Design travel tripod to possibly replace my Really Right Stuff travel tripod. I’ve used the hell out of it and it treats me well, but I feel like it’s a bit too tall to be a bonafide travel tripod, even when folded.

Nice - reminds me of my Lowepro BP 450AW - I've bought 2 of these bags over the last 12 years of heavy use. Your choice of the Air 3 over the Air 2S intrigues me. I would think the 20mp 1 inch sensor would beat out the smaller 12mp sensor on the air 3. Great informative video as always.

for Photo the Air 2s absolutely beats the air 3 video is closer but since the Air 3 has the 3x (70mm) camera as well and much longer flight time it's a much better fit overall for my uses

I use the same backpack in 25 and 35 liters. For now we don't need the handwarmers, but I will keep them in mind for the moment winter decides to return in the Netherlands. Temperatures keep being mild. Very mild.

it would fit a couple more small lenses like sony prime lenses 16-35gm II etc, You could probably fit a 70-200 f4 or 70-200gm II if you rearranged a few things

I've had the 35L bag for about 3 years now and didn't know about the pockets inside that side flap. I've always used the mesh you can pull out for a tripod, but never opened it beyond that, lol.

I have the slightly larger Shimoda bag - the 30L and love it for hiking. Do you find that the hand warmers being directly up against your gear is a problem? I would be a little worried about putting them in the main compartment of my bag.

I don't find them to get too hot on the lowest setting and single sided warming only

No I find I don't need one that often if I am careful, especially since the 24-105 has OSS built in, the newer camera bodies (A9III, A7rV and A7cII) all have dynamic active stabilization which is insane for handheld stuff too. That's one of the reasons I am considering upgrading to the A9III

Great pack for the camera gear for front country, but it doesn’t look like any room for hiking gear…extra warm clothes (down jacket), rain jacket, food, a few liters of water, maybe mini crampons, maybe a small shelter etc all needed for any hiking. For me I try to keep camera gear to around 1kg if on a hiking trip but in fairness these are 20km days often in the mountains, so camera backpacks too limited and of course, I’m a recreational camera user so the kind of wonderful videos you make aren’t an option unless I want a huge pack…and then there is my lack of skill😊.

I agree and anything more than day trips will require a larger bag (I should do a video about this as well lol) for the jackets yes there is room in the front and top to add a bit, in this case here I am wearing both lol. The red is a goretex arcteryx alpha SV shell which works well in rain and snow. Not shown in this was my small first aid kit and Garmin in reach which I always have with me just in case!

I’ve been looking for a good travel camera backpack and I was looking at this bag too. It has a lot of great features, but how do you find the packs base weight of 4.5 LB? Most of my camping bags come in at under 2 Lb and hiking are under 16 oz. What features make a bag so worth it you’ll accept a higher weight?

so for me having the bag designed around protecting camera gear makes it worth while to have a little extra weight. To be fair many camera bags can run 6-8lbs which is too much lol

I have to ask buddy sorry 😐. What's the weight with all that equipment in it? I remember packing my DSLR and 3/4 different lenses into my Slingshot bag. Then heading off trekking only to be feeling the pain a few hours into the journey 😮, I absolutely loved the slingshot bags, Currently use one still for my mini drones.

The new A9III is not half the camera the A1 is. A9III ISO base at 250 with higher noise, lower dynamic range and less than half the megapixels. Stick with the A1 in the bag.

@@JakeSloan... I've been two years traveling Mexico, Central America and 'am now in Peru. There have been those times when I wished I had my tripod. At the Guatamala City airport, I was hassled about my collapsible hiking poles (stored inside my carry-on). Thanks for your reply.
