This was a fun disassembly. Really pretty neat how it works. I still don't have an understanding of how it cooled only the bottom portion of the top tank. And I don't know what the parts were on the side of the hot water tank. Please let me know in the comments if you know. Thanks for watching.

Well, I'm coming in 4 years later and I must say thank you for taking the time to tear this thing down and showing it. I was searching for the reason for the baffle in a cooler (the plastic insert you are questioning). I think it is a way for keeping the cold (heavier) water from the room temp water. Let me tell you my story and why I think this. I acquired a used unit about 10 years ago from a yard sale and brought it home, cleaned it as best I could and then used bottles of water without turning it on. I like room temp water so never worried about whether it could cool or warm the water. I later went to a filtration system that sits on top and used it for another couple of years. Then I got a softener installed as well as an RO unit so this water dispenser sat unused. Now I decided I would give it away but was curious if it actually worked, so I plugged it in and tested it; hot water after about 30 minutes (175 °F) and cool water to only about 45°F. The funny thing was that the main water and the cooled water was the same temp. Left it overnight and there was no water coming out of the cool side. Went to remove the filter and it was frozen solid in the reservoir! Block of ice! I also noticed the temp setting was at MAX. So that plus the fact I didn't have the baffle in probably contributed to all being cooled continuously. I will try again after it thaws and use the baffle. Sorry for the essay. Thanks again

I'm an automotive Master Tech and what you are doing is exactly why I make a good living doing what I love! I knew exactly what everything did as soon as you opened the case but was interested in your video because my Mom just got me a similar model for Christmas. As someone else here said, the two round things on the side are basically thermostats. one keeps it at the regulated temperature and the other is a high temp shut off. It could be done with just one but double redundancy is a good thing in a sue happy country such as ours. I love the fact that you were curious enough to do this and make a video knowing that you didn't really know what you were looking at. Always stay curious!! Great video!!!!!!

Thanks! Yes, the trick (usually) to keep the internet troll from tearing you apart is not to say what something does unless you are completely positive. Even then, it can start a real fight if they're wrong in their understanding. So I've gotten pretty comfortable with the words "I don't know." Then I often get people telling me that I have no business doing these type of videos then. Agreed. If the video existed already, I wouldn't do it. Not sure how many other people would go to the trouble of cutting that tank open. lol. Anyway, I hoped you subbed because I have many of these up and many more coming. Tearing apart a whole dishwasher right now. That video should be up this coming week. Then there's a Bissel SpotBot coming up. Just anything that catches my curiosity. There's always surprises in these things. Even the dishwasher has some really neat stuff in it. :)

@@AutistiVision I actually came to watch your video because I was getting ready to pull the top off mine so I can clean the dust etc out of the inlet, due to the unit setting unused and exposed for a long period of time. I wanted to check your video to make sure I could just pop the top off without breaking anything (Because it feels really tight, as though something may be attached to the bottom), but unfortunately you cut that part out of the video 😢. Is it safe to just pull it up and off? Thanks

I think the components at the side of hot water tank is some kind if temperature sensor. Because the system need to know weather the water already boiled or not, by reading it's temperature, for example 100°C. If the temperature already reached 100°C, then the circuit will cut off the current to the heater, so it will not over boil. And the reason why the hot water tank is smaller, not because everyone want cold drink more, but they made it smaller to heat up water really quick so you don't need to wait so long to get hot water.

I have that exact model. The hot quit heating. I loved the video and seeing what all the insides look like without tearing mine apart. I rarely used the hot anyway. The water that comes out the right is very cold but the middle spigot actually seems almost the same temperature so there is no separation. The warmer water would be toward the top is what I am guessing the designers were thinking. Heat rises. Thanks again for sharing.

The 2 sensors stuck on the side of the hot water tank are used to measure the water level for process control. Upper one to sense a full tank so it knows when to turn on to keep it hot. The bottom is used to sense low water when it is almost empty to cut the heater power. An empty tank with heat on will damage the unit. The bottom sensor thermo-fuse to protect from overheating/maintain constant water temperature. This is just my guess.

@David-jh8mp
@David-jh8mp 3 жыл бұрын
But I think you reversed the purpose of the low limit and high limit. At full tank, it needs to keep it hot. At low water in the hot tank (this also means the jug must be empty), you want the heater to turn off to prevent damage to the unit. The thermo-fuse at bottom is to cut-off power when it gets too hot and turns on power when temp falls below ideal hot temperature.

Notice how the rubber tubes do not use hose clamps but zip ties. Well one of those zip tie connectors failed and water went straight through (5 gallons) out the bottom where it connects to the hot water jug. The hot water on ours failed in 3 months. I used hose clamps to fix it. But now looking at it I think I could just plug the center hole which leads to the broken heater completely. That water just sits there doing nothing now. Well its nice to use for a drain, but thats about it. Not a high quality cooler but at least the compressor works still.

If i remember correctly, there are slide/type of clips. Not actual clips, but just "bends in the metal" where the cover holds/hooks onto the sides. I believe lifting it straight up will allow it to come off, after the screws are removed. If it is dripping from the valve, they are not closing completely/properly; Hard water sediment/calcium build up inside of the valve. That is what is happening to mine as well. I need to remove the front, and the valves and try soaking in vinegar to dissolve the minerals.

The first button is probably just water from the bottle. The middle one Chilled water and the one with the Red Button is for Hot water, You have to depress the Red Safety Button then the bigger button that it is in to get hot water. The Red switch on the back is Hot water On/Off. The Green I expect to be Cold water On/Off and I think the Blue by itself is either the Light On/Off or Master On/Off I would expect the Hot Water tank to draw water from the Bottle not the Chilled Water tank as it means less heating?

Possibly lime buildup. I was surprised to find on PRIMO website that I should have been cleaning my 5 year old dispenser every 3 months. @AutistiVision, thanks so much for making the video and posting it on KZfaq. Please ignore all the negative comments from imbecile trolls as that’s what they do best. To me, even if your video was mute, it’d still be useful for my case as I’m sure it’d be the same also for most people. Remember? It’s said a picture is worth a thousand words. Keep up what you’re doing in taking apart stuffs and showing us what’s inside them! Thanks again! So, your video was exactly what I wanted to see after making a Google search because I got very curious as to what’s inside the water heater container after the hot water tap started dispensing milky turbid water. All that changed is I put in the empty 5 gallon water bottle food grade hydrogen peroxide to serve as a disinfectant before I refilled it with reverse osmosis filtered water at a Glacier water refilling station. The dosage I put in is the equivalent of only about 2 drops of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide for a cup of water although my little research on the Internet pointed at about twice as many. As a reference, a very well known book on hydrogen peroxide treatment for humans states we can safely take up to 23 drops of food grade 35% concentration hydrogen peroxide in a cup of water starting out with just one drop to a cup for 2 days, then 2 drops for another 2 days, 3 drops for another 2 days until reaching 23 and then come back down by one drop in the same pace (i.e. every couple days) back to the one drop to a cup as in the beginning. My question remains unanswered as the inside of the hot water container appears to be all metal. Although in its concentrated form hydrogen peroxide is an oxidant and act as a bleaching agent, I don’t believe it’d still be so at the level of dilution in my case. If anything, it’d perhaps be oxidant to nothing but microbes and germs to a certain extent as an antiseptic. The turbid water looks as if some calcium salt or styrofoam eroded into the water. I hope someone may have an answer. The reason I resorted to using hydrogen peroxide for disinfecting the internals of my Primo top loading water dispenser stand system is because the manufacturer recommends doing a rather orchestrated and time consuming disinfection regimen every 3 to 4 months which I did only once and wished I’d never have to do that again but instead find me an alternative method. And I thought treatment with hydrogen peroxide was a good one.

Do you know what would be the cause of turning on the hot water switch and it tripping the house circuit breaker.
@AutistiVision
@AutistiVision 3 жыл бұрын
Well something like this would have a pretty high amperage by itself, but if there is one other high amperage item running on that circuit, it could trip. I think the house circuit is only about 15 amps per breaker. For example, we have 2 refrigerators, so if we try to run the toaster oven and the microwave at the same time, the breaker trips. But it probably wouldn't if it weren't for the refrigerators.

Turn off your water dispenser using the two buttons on the upper right side on the back of the unit. Unplug the unit from the wall. Pause this video at 0:38. Just below the black flat metal on the top of the screen, you will see a narrow silver metal section. On the top left side of that silver metal section, there is a hole. In that hole is a flat head screw. On your dispenser, using a screw driver, turn it very slightly clockwise. This adjusts the cooling temperature.

Are those plastic pipes safe for hot water? I read that plastic components can emitt toxins when they get in contact with hot water.

I’m wondering the same thing. I have one of these and I think I’ll start using a kettle instead of the hot water dispenser.

This video tells me not to call you to fix my water dispenser. It's a I don't know video.

This is completely irresponsible, considering the potential for misuse and serious or fatal harm. With thay said, primo water dispensers have excellent water pumps which can be used for small scale outdoor aqua and hyrdroponic grow farms. The fiberglass insulation is a respiratory hazard. Not to mention the obvious eletrical hazards. Stagnant water is a medium for delightful bacterial organisms that are not so friendly to mammals. There are many places that give stellar teardowns and reviews. Please be a responsible human being. And forgod sake, story board yor info. Google or meta search engines more than sufficient for your 'curiosity'..... cup light button?!?!?! Really

No need to apologize. It actually helped many of us, now we don't need to take the entire thing apart thanks to your video.

@@bigred2443 i take that as a compliment. Asshats don't care about your feelings of enjoyment. Doesnt mean i'm not right. Children watch youtube some children are adult children. Some of them are latchkey. There is a right way and a wrong way. Don't get me wrong. Not to take away from this OP as he clearly is very intelligent, and may be even more intelligent than I, but not be able to verbalize. Still, we have to be responsible adults. And judging from the name of the channel and OPs way of things. His response was modeled and you took offense way more than he did. And his IQ is probably more than the both of us. So with that said, i will be more straight foward and I take back any words that would make OP feel any less. "Teach safe techniques for people younger than you or less mechanical. They might get sick or hurt themselves. Start your video with don't do this without adult supervision as it can be dangerous to even take apart a water dispenser without prior knowledge of basic electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazards" by the way red, haven't you watched "Birdbox" the asshole is always right. Look at what happens when there is not enough assholes around. Nation goes to shit, world goes to shit. We're assholes because we don't have the time to tell you in a way that will make you feel good. We got work to do. So stop fucking around and getterdone!
