Arlene continues to be smart. In this version, she is better than the others. I miss Dorothy Kilgallen and Bennett Cerf. But I plan to watch every episode they have screened, one a night for as long as I can.

@@samcorcione9111I believe “To Tell the Truth” ended its original run in the spring of 1968, and did not return until the fall of 1969, with Garry Moore as host. It was “I’ve Got a Secret” which Allen hosted later.

TV shows in 1968 had fewer commercial breaks, and less total commercial time compared to today. BUZZR apparently cannot make enough money from the original allotted commercial time, so they try to edit the original program to add even more commercial time for themselves.

Imagine going to a tv game show where the grand prize if you stomp the panel would be 100 dollars. With adjusted inflation ut would equate to aprox 750.0 in 2023. It hardly seems worth it to go through all the trouble. Unless you just wanted to appear on national tv.

A very American view. In much of the world, and notably in the UK $750 would be on the high side for some of our shows even today! Big prizes are used when the show has nothing else. These old GT productions were in a different league.

@@jasejj well, that's what I am, an American 😀 I don't know how those prize winning shows are taxed in the UK. Here the tax is high. A good 30 percent I would guess. An actor friend gets his pay taxed at 70 per cent. So, it does seem outlandish to receive multimillion salaries for a role in a movie if you are an A lister. Taxation is theft without representation. I know it's a cliche, but 🤷🏻‍♂️ Cheers, my fellow human Brit!

@@jorgevillavicencio427 Pretty sure winnings on UK TV are completely untaxed. It's not as if we don't have large prizes (they used to be rubbish, maxing out at a few thousand in the 1980s but now even the daytime shows give away tens, if not hundreds of thousands) but it's not always the sole motivator is what I was trying to get at. And I guess that explains why shows like WML remained popular in the UK for decades after they died off stateside - the panel game in one form or another is still very much a staple of TV here, albeit not with many members of the public anymore - it's just played for laughs like the mystery guest section.
