There's nothing that proves Shohei is guilty of anything, he did'nt sign any check to make payments and the wire transfer were done in computer, which Ippei had access to. Pepple got to understand there's clients employer's and workers that embezzle and steal money from owner's of the bussines they work for all the time. This reminds me of my uncle whose an owner of a company of his bussiness, but a few years ago his manager (also a supervisor) took out money unknowingly from the company and used it on his expense. And that's what Ippie did also in this case.

Some delusional people are saying they were betting together, why would Shohei rack up $4 million dollars in debt, that's why I knew right away Shohei was innocent, he would never be in debt, he makes over $100 million dollars in endorsements alone.

Mr. Mizuhara, who is embroiled not only in gambling but also in suspicions of resume fraud, has faced increasing scrutiny. The same media outlet stated, "He was widely reported to have attended universities in the United States and worked for two MLB teams, but significant discrepancies have emerged in his background. Since this scandal broke, Mizuhara's situation appears to worsen with each passing day."

This! When Mizuhara's first statement came out, it sounds like Ohtani's just a great friend helping out. But, as more light is shown on Mizuhara's character, it starts to worsen for him. Faking his UCR attendance is one thing by itself, but then he fakes 4 years of working with the Red Sox too, and we're unsure if he really worked with the Yankees too. If these lies started in 2016, then we can easily assume that he's a compulsive liar. We know he was at the poker game where he met Mr. Bowyer as David Fletcher (with the Braves now) was also there and has mentioned Ippei being there in 2021. So, we have a gambler who is also a compulsive liar. Now, it seems like anything coming Mr. Mizuhara's statement has to be treated as not credible until proven to be so. Ohtani's reaction after the Mizuhara's clubhouse apology makes it even crazier.

@@ykyang5786the thing is Ohtani knew about his gambling escapades and his inability to stop. So he payed his gambling debts off and inadvertently tied himself to a crime. More will be revealed. It’s all suspicious the way his team handled it. It’s going to get messy before it’s all said and done.

Shohei Otani is already richer than you can imagine. He has been featured in commercials for many of Japan's largest companies. You can see it when you come to Japan and watch Japanese TV. Book Maker knew that Ippei Mizuhara was the best friend of Shohei Otani. Ippei Mizuhara was not only Otani's interpreter, but also his only manager, and was apparently responsible for transferring expenses and other important tasks during Otani's hospitalization. ブックメーカーは、水原一平が大谷翔平の親友と知っていた。水原一平は、通訳だけではなく、大谷さんのただ一人のマネージャーとして、経費の振り込み等、その他の重要な仕事を大谷の入院中にも担っていたとか。

Sometimes innocent people tie themselves to crimes. This is what Ohtani seemed to have done by paying off his friend’s gambling debt. Also Ohtani is clueless and naive. He shot himself in the foot for not taking more ownership of his life. Instead he just focused on baseball while not taking care of his other important things in his life. That’s a recipe for disaster.

The consequences of Gambling in professional sports are a complete joke. Is a professional player gambling bad? Of course. But it doesn’t warrant a 1 year suspension or a lifetime ban. The fact that Watson got 11 games over potentially assaulting over 20 women is an absolute joke. Professional leagues think gambling is a worse offense than sexual assault or murder

The bookie holds the key 🔑. If he says they were betting on baseball ect and cooperates for less time then ohtani and company are toast. The feds are probably monitoring him very closely to see if he takes money from the ohtani camp also to deny the betting on baseball.

Gambling with a illegal bookie is actually not illegal at all. The illegal part is the bookmaker. Millions of americans gamble daily and have been doing so for more than 10 years on illegal sports bookmaker.

I live in CA and I didn't know that sport betting was illegal because I know a lot of people are doing it. We have several casinos operated by Indians and people just go there and enjoy whatever gamble they want to. But I found that the Indian have their own seventy where they can operate their gambling operation and that they don't have to follow California's gambling laws. Also, MLB and many ball clubs where sport betting is legal, they are promoting sport betting big time and it's a big source of their revenue now. MLB has double standards.

Just a note.. California Penal Code § 330 PC Though gambling becomes a crime whenever there is a “bank” or “house” that collects funds or takes a “rake.” All gaming participants face being arrested, including players, dealers, and hosts.

@@timotmon most get a fine, but i never seen anybody go to prison for it. Its like jaywalking just the fine is bigger. The only one to worry about is the IRS for unreported income and back in the day when i use to play on Bodog/Bovada i declared that income agianst my losses and never ran into any issue. Even though its a offshore gambling site.

@@NPAMike Yeah I'm with you. Just thought we should be clear on the point that it's indeed illegal. It's a misdemeanor. So no first time offender is going to jail. My other concern is there an MLB penalty for engaging in a conspiracy for hiding the truth? (If Ohtani did know).

Isn't baseball's puritanical side the thing we're supposed to want to move away from? The puritanical stuff is why I stopped following baseball as closely as I used to. I get the "storytelling" thing with baseball, but the "but what do the numbers mean now?" stuff is why I backed away from baseball coverage over a decade and a half ago. With Shohei and this gambling thing, unless Shohei himself was betting on baseball (and even if he did), I'd rather focus on what the leagues/owners are doing across sports leagues with gambling (and, to Jeff's point, the financial environment baseball finds itself in that differs from the NFL/NBA, like with the RSN thing).

If he paid off his homeboy's debts... why do we really care? I will say that it feels like an impossibity that this young man was smart enough to steal this amount of money without anyone in Shohei's camp noticing.

@@sirrmanning2769 If Ippei was just Ohtani's interpreter, then I'm with you that it is impossible. But, we have seen that Ippei drives Ohtani around, works out and trains with him. Heck, they play catch together. Ohtani joked that Ippei was his business partner. Not clean cut yet, but this does suggest that there could have been an expense account with both their names where Ippei takes care of Ohtani's monthly expenses. I thought it was funny that Ippei said he gambled to keep up with Ohtani's lifestyle. We have seen Ohtani's lifestyle. Ohtani sleeps and plays baseball everyday. I don't think that lifestyle is as expensive as Ippei has stated. Seems like a lie there too. Heck, we know he lied to his wife too, because he stated that he kept this gambling addiction from her, and there's no way she's never asked about it before. Then, we see her unfriending Ippei. I wouldn't be surprise if there's a divorce coming soon.
