One thing interesting I remember this going doing was how the action of grabbing someone to use as a shield while aiming and firing your gun would be super unwieldy in terms of using the control. I though it was a nice reflection of how hard and cumbersome the action would be. Another thing, the Metal Gear series is pretty similar to Pac-Man in how your character is usually overwhelmed even by a small number of enemies that you try to avoid in maze like level design.

I bought and played through MGS2 maybe a year after release, and though I cant say I completely enjoyed playing through it, I'm glad I did play through it. While the whole Raiden thing didn't bother me as I'd not played MGS1 at that point, there was a lot of long dialogue, there was a lot of back-and-forthing around the map, and i found the controls to be difficult/finnicky/unweildy at times. I seem to remember having to press and hold about 8 buttons (hyperbole) at once to aim and fire a gun in first person. And I found the movemnt controls to not always be as smooth or as precice as I was wanting them to be. But everything else... the graphics, atmosphere, interaction between player, NPCs, environment, weapons and objects was so immersive. The way you could distract, confuse, coerse and deceive guards, the way you could use smoke to see laser trip wires, the way you could shatter every glass and bottle behind the bar on the tanker, or slaughter every watermelon in the storeroom... Or the way you could slip on seagull poop, fall on your arse, and then be vulnerable to another seagull flying over and pooping on your face. And the way, in the final throws of the story, when the Colonel goes a bit screwy and does his very best to distract, confuse, coerse and deceive you into not finishing the gaame, evening going so far as to throw a fake game over screen at you. Mad!

Metal Gear Solid 2 is some kind of complex beast. I got into the series fairly late, so I already knew about Raiden in contrast to many others who were probably bemused when they excitedly started playing this on release day. But I saw through the inclusion of Raiden an interesting and almost-Orwellian meta narrative about hype trains, confirmation bias and even then, political censorship, social media and distortions of the truth and lines blurred between the academic and non-academic use of memes. And as you say, the production values and gameplay mechanics were elaborated on. Granted, some of the backtracking through the Big Shell can be a little annoying, and the long text entries at the beginning and some really long cutscenes can make it feel too much like a movie than a game - I know Kojima likes his movies and the Metal Gear series at its best can be a great hybrid of movie and game, but it sometimes is a bit much. Which is probably why Metal Gear Solid 1 is my fave, simply because the cutscenes were a little shorter.

I liked it when it came out. The bait/switch was a bit annoying but i got over it. The fourth wall breaking was cute now and then, but got REALLY annoying at the end. Also the story starts to decline with future installation stories making almost as much sense as kingdom hearts. Just pretend every game is an independant game not a sequel or prequel and you're good.

I've never played the Metal Gear games outside of Twin Snakes, but I have seen some playthroughs of Sons of Liberty, and it's a pretty crazy game, especially towards the end. I don't know if this is true, but I recall reading that Hideo Kojima didn't really want to continue the series after Metal Gear Solid and felt if he was going to make more Metal Gear games, he at least wanted to do something unique with them, or at least mess with fan expectations, hence why he hid Raiden as the main character of this game from the public until players actually played the game (the box even had a screenshot of Snake in an area where Raiden became playable, if I recall correctly). I feel like this soured a lot of people's feelings on the game as a result, though I heard it opinion has turned around on it over the years. I anticipate Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be covered on this channel eventually, and I look forward to that one, since I heard it's the best in the series!

video idea: whats so great about Project zomboid. Have it ready for when build 42 comes out and you should be onto a winner (says the person who knows nothing 11)

I got MGS2 in the first week on PS2, I felt that the cutscenes were too long and the codec conversations dragged on and stopped the flow of gameplay. I recently got the remaster on Switch and still think the same, I tried to invest myself in the story but it's just too much.

Every Metal Gear Solid sequel progressively got worse about this, which ultimately caused me to lose interest trying to play 4 on the PS3. It's the same reason I lost interest in the Final Fantasy games, I'm trying to play a game, not watch a damn movie.

I got out of gaming once things went 3D but I loved the original MGS and FF7. I got a PS2 to play FFX and so badly wanted to play MGS2 but also didn't like playing as someone other than Snake and just found it kinda lame. I didn't buy any games evee again until this year when I bought a PS5 and FF7 Remake and Rebirth. I've looked at getting back in to other games like some of the MGS sequels I've missed but maaaaannn I have not been impressed. It's not that they're bad games but that, to me, they're just not something I can get absorbed in. But after seeing this video, Il give 'em a try again. ❤❤

Cool Things About Game: * Graphics * Attention to Detail Not So Cool Things: * Bait and Switch with Raiden * Weird ass story * So many cut scenes and codec calls (even when compared to MGS 1 it seemed excessive) * The game did not have the “IT” factor that Halo or Zelda had. It just lacked the great fun factor. It was good, but not GREAT. Also, I bought the PS2 for this game and then they turned around and put out a far better version on the Xbox. I felt betrayed by MGS.

One of the biggest sequel let downs in history. I loved part 1. Part 2 killed the series for me.
