Crazy, I was thinking I'd love to hear your perspective on elements & elemental reactions the other day and here it is! I've been playing a year so I haven't really built teams around all the different reactions and I don't know all the mechanics of how they work so this is amazing thanks! I really hope with Natlan and Sheznaya, Hoyo is going to give some much needed love to Cryo and Physical, especially considering that next year we're about to get the Cryo Archon.

Despite how common it seems to show up this way in tier lists, anemo just doesn't seem worth putting above electro any more. Probably on par with pyro. It's not that the element has gotten worse, there are just so many comparable or better alternative teams that don't need it at all.

My only problem with melt team is that wriothesley applies cryo consistently but there arent enough pyro applications that are consistent to apply pyro other than xiangling or burnmelt teams

I have been a Hydro collector since day one, just because I aesthetically love the element in this game, and man it has never felt better to be a Hydro fan. Don't even need a single word to describe its number 1 status.

"Sucrose is a fake" Damn... I feel Sucrose is precisely what you ask for. You just want bigger multipliers and more rewards for swirling, which is insane since it's already so broken (shield bypass much) Sucrose C4 is kind of a proof they intended for her to be what she became. And it only took the 1.6 change to make her truly shine. Can't say as much for some units (even 5* ones). Ngl I'm not really hoping Sucrose will be powercrept, but I hope they'll create more subdps that care about EM and actual reaction dmg for her to shine better. An approach à la Chevreuse would be great for Superconduct. Like a def shred if you trigger the reaction like it was originally intended. But for Overload, Superconduct, Burning or Burgeon, I feel we could really have kit centered around amplifying the reactions (and I'm not only talking about dmg. Nilou makes Bloom explosions bigger, an Overload unit that pulls enemies instead of sending them away could be cool if they buff the reaction dmg on top of it) Hope they also save Crystallize at some point, but lol.

Watching now but curious to see if you include CC/VV in the evaluation of Anemo. In theory, Anemo in a vacuum is a pretty mediocre element, basically just there to assist in AOE elemental application but grouping and VV greatly enhance the apparent value. EDIT: So you did include them. Fair enough, it is true that mobility/movement is a core theme of every Anemo character and VV is inextricably tied to Anemo. It's just interesting to think about how Anemo is technically only good because of exterior mechanics. That could potentially inform a way to improve Geo, i.e., not by adding new reactions but by adding new mechanics and Artifacts. For example, Anemo can CC non-boss opponents so why not have Geo introduce a CC for boss opponents (e.g. a delay to extend vulnerability windows for enemies like Wenut).

I had the exact same opinion about eletro and pyro. They are about the same power to me, and I was excited to see which one you would put higher but I like their placement.

Please make a tier list of how good is a character's element application, on field and off field.

I just turned AR60 and xinqgiu is still my only off field hydro support, he has carried me in so much teams it's crazy he's always there

14:19 My exact thoughts. I made a Kazuha burning team with nahida, kazuha, bennett, dehya. Its so fun in AoE. This team can also shred some domains like a piece of cake, like the emblem domain. Everything burns until they are no more. I would definitely recommend using sac sword on Kazuha for more on-field time.

I'm glad somebody finally understands the point of Geo 🙏 like I absolutely agree the element is underwhelming but that's kinda the inherent design and theme of the element so it would make sense.

Venti doesn't really have a weight restriction for which enemies he can pull, but rather heavier enemies can fight against it somewhat. That said, you can help Venti's CC with stagger or freeze, so it's possible to build around Venti to make him more effective.

I’d say geo fs needs a reaction with dendro while we all know their not the same thing geo is made to stand your ground dendro was made to spread your roots through the earth and just someone who seeks knowledge but still I have an idea that would combine both Thorn How to proc it Geo application ontop of dendro Once activated it will summon thorns from the ground that pierce an enemy dealing damage based on defense it will keep the enemy in place for 1 sec and it has 100% uptime(doesn’t work on bosses) the purpose of this build is too one give dendro and reaction with geo And 2 make geo dps like navia and itto have more team variatys and with how easy itto gets defense it’ll boost has damage by a lot more Though idk you tell me if it’s a good idea

I always thought a physical carry that was pyro would be cool. Could just make them splitscale on pyro/physical and benefit from swirls. Double dip into pyro res shred also gives phys res shred.

Thanks for the video! I'd have swapped dendro and electro. Apart from one specific character that enables bloom, dendro is only good when electro is present. And hydro just has a stacked roster. As just an element, I don't think it is ahead by much if any.

I think Pyro would be a top 2-3 element if we got more pyro supports and sub dps characters since pyro already has a ton of potential with enabling melt and triggering vape along with having #1 priority in swirl and having a unit like Bennett The only 5 star pyro that isn’t specifically a carry is Dehya and she has a billion flaws Hopefully for Natlan they can finally release support and sub dps focused pyros in order to bump the element back up

hydro is so god, has most top tier reaction: electrocharged for aoe, vape, frozen, bloom (+ hyperbloom or burgeon), but only that, is so good in non reaction teams like monogeo, monoanemo, physical, BUt NO ONLY THAT , it works great in "soup" team with "pyro + electro" or "dendro + cryo + electro". is so good that even the worst hydro have a place ( minus traveler) candance barbara kokomi mona ayato childe etc, everyone can be used.

My favourite geo unit is Navia because you dont have to play a geo team if you have her!

The problem with changing and element is that you'd potentially have to rebalance every character using that element. Only one that seems relatively safe is just damage buffing. I always wished electrocute would stagger the same way it's able to stagger the character. That might be a little broken, but people said Freeze was broken also...

I hope in natlan they add an off field pyro applier thats not that over used dumb chef

the problem with geo is that it's an element that centers on being neutral in a game that focuses on non-neutral reactions. it needs more and more geo units to support other geo units to continue to be viable, which is not ideal. it was reworked once but even if it got reworked again i think it would quickly stagnate once more unless new mechanics are built in to make playing it more interesting in different teams and scenarios the problem with cryo is that it's old and hasn't been significantly touched on for years. blizzard strayer is still the most significant cryo set and its primarily focused on a reaction that only works half the time in the abyss. the characters (ie layla, charlotte) are also significantly geared towards freeze, and the most recent cryo dps, wriothesley, set himself apart by having burnmelt as one of his actual best teams for reasons. i think it just needs a new artifact set to bump up its other mechanics like melt or the slowing effect, not just freeze the problem with pyro isnt that its old or hasnt been significantly touched on, but because for whatever reason the devs refuse to add any actually interesting pyro characters. theres like 5 different on field dpses in that element and all their best teams are vape or mono pyro. chevreuse was the most interesting character they recently added in that roster and they have yet to do anything with the concept of boosting overload or other lesser used pyro reactions. is it because of xiangling? its xiangling isnt it? its such a running joke that xiangling will never be dethroned even the devs are getting in on it. please just make another pyro sub-dps that has decent pyro application. they dont even have to have as much damage as xiangling. nobody will have as much damage as xiangling. please--

This is a idea I got about how Varka kit could look and it could also serve as a buff to Physical. Because what I think Physical needs is first and foremost a powerful physical buffer. But I didn't stop there and also tried to make Varka some sort of burst dps + buffer...because Physicals needs way more than just a basic buffer. So I gonna copy and paste it here: Varka having close relationship with Rosaria, Razor and Mika makes me think he is gonna be the character that will buff Physical. My idea would be Varka been a physical buffer, sub dps and main dps...kinda like a combination of Raiden and Shenhe, but physical. To be more in detail I see some potencial with Varka if he is focus around some stack buffs(Gonna call the Elemental Skill one, Rally). Well the Rally stacks work like Shenhe E buff(But Physical), were everyone gets it and they get spend each time a character attacks with physical damage. Also his E should make a ice wolf head that attack in union with physical attacks. Dealing small amounts of cryo damage and been the main source of the Rally stacks. In the sense that when Varka activates his E, he will give a set amount of Rally stacks to every teammate and when his allies and himself attack they get spend.(Pretty much what I said of Shenhe and Raiden E getting combine). Also, everytime someone and himself spend Rally stacks, he gains another type of stack that gets spend with his burst(Gonna call it Lead by Actions and it makes his burst stronger). His burst should be similar to Raiden burst were he does echanced attacks(Or just a huge single hit like Xinyan), Anyway the burst mostly deal physical damage with a side of cryo...Once he spend a certain amount of Lead by Actions, he will also give another damage buff to his teammates.(Gonna call that buff from the burst, High Morale). Well, High Morale could simply be a huge atk increase like Bennett for the entire team for like 20 seconds. As for his passives, well one could be a teamwide physical damage buff if you have a Electro and Cryo teammate...maybe like a 20% physical buff at all time or when you do Superconduct(Kinda like a resonance buff Physical is lacking). The other passive could be the one that gives the Lead by Actions stacks, by saying everytime a Rally stack gets spend Varka gets Lead by Action for his burst. If he works like that, you can make powerful comps like this: Eula/Xinyan, Varka, Mika and Electro Sub dps(I feel they also need to make a good electro/physical sub dps) Razor, Varka, Mika and Rosaria(You cannot tell me this is not the perfect Varka comp) Freminet, Varka, Xingqiu + Electro sub dps So yeah, I wish Varka works that way. It would make him a sub dps, buffer and burst dps at the same time. Adding that it makes sense, because in lore he is a powerhouse that is also good at rallying his troopes. Lastly the constellations should exist to turn him into a main dps.

Electro is easily second followed by Dendro and then Anemo and Pyro tied for fourth. Electro's most significant glow up was not Dendro, but the 1.6 transformative reaction DMG scaling buff which, combined with Electro-Charge's dual aura property, made it competitive in the meta ever since (Overvape for ST, Taser for AoE). And once Dendro came along, its best reactions required Electro, and Physical is hanging on by a thread called Superconduct. Meanwhile, Anemo is HARD carried by external factors like VV and specific abilities of a handful of its cast.

Honestly I feel like anything above Electro in this tierlist don't need any buff as an element. May be one or 2 strong char should be enough. For cryo I think freez need some type of buff like freez status should be on bosses even if they don't get CCed. As per physical nd Geo they actually need something. Also for me dendero and hydro are equal but hydro has more broken chars.

Like the way you also talk about physical in this. Other people always leave it out as it doesnt really is an actual element or vision type. But it still is a way to deal damage.

geo crystallize just needs to do something... they tried out like 20 different things but made none happen. petra- work on any character who picks it up and add 35% geo dmg to them too. bollide - triple the bonus if geo unit shielded most of the feedback i gave to them for crystallize they just used the dendro crystallize for baizhu and im not even joking :|

How’s electro so low when the best dendro reactions need it.. Electrocharge has always been the best way to double swirl. Chev saved overload and SC is mandatory for physical dps

My only nitpick is that Physical isnt really an element because it doesnt react and almost everyone other than catalyst deals Physical dmg on normal atks by default.

I think easy way of making burning reaction OK is one of this: 1- idea make each tic deal fire dmg in small AOE without element aplication. That way there will be small niche where burning reaction is always good (big group of enemies in close proximity). 2- idea make DoT dmg scaling over time. That way sustaining "burning" reaction will be rewarding. 3- idea make DoT dmg stronger, but dmg scaling is quickly degrading over time. That way making burning reaction to enable "melt" or "vaporize" will be less punishing (most of the DoT dmg will be dealt withing first 2 sec, so we wont miss much if asidently add to much cryo or hydro)

That's a very sensible list. Personally I would have put anemo below electro/pyro. Anemo is hard carried by vv, and that artifact set is getting less dominant. It's useless for geo/anemo carry teams, aside from aggravate most dendro teams don't need it, other characters like chevreuse is taking up that role in its place, and a bunch of popular teams don't have much use of it.. eg rational, hutao + zl comps, navia teams, etc.

there was once a time when everyone argued between hydro or anemo as being the best elements in the game. post-dendro though i think if you still argue anemo is better than hydro youve lost your marbles like as a whole both elements are great but with dendro making seed-focused reactions a thing and Neuvillette & Furina being Neuvillette & Furina its just really hard to deny that the top meta teams rn are just very thirsty for that sweet sweet bath water

Electro charged teams have been good from the very beginning and continue to be so especially in aoe But if you're playing neuvillette in aoe for example, might aswell bring fischl and use kazuha to electro charge Same with furina yae teams or honestly any combination of electro and hydro with anemo in aoe Electro charged is still pretty good partially because of the units associated with it but it's still very prominent on abyss and I don't think they are going to need to buff it like overloaded any time soon

I really hope Cryo gets some love in the next regions , it feels underwhelming rn ,I wish they rework the Cryo resonance to a more universal one , and I wish that they add better Cryo off field dps/supports who can compete with Hydro characters we have now .. as for Geo , it's getting carried by Zhongli and Navia , but I hope we get more good Geo characters in the future

Love how he calls him "jia ming" instead of "gah ming". Whether it's intentional or not Anyway I have some ideas how they can improve the elements that are underperforming rn. Been thinking quite a lot about that lately (because of how dry the game is), so yeah it'll be a long ass yapping session *Physical* For physical specifically, the solution is easier than everyone thought actually. It's not simply releasing a better eula, but rather release characters that can deal physical dmg from off field. Why? Because if we pay attention to the physical team, we'd realize that the "physical team" is mostly just a hypercarry team. While hypercarry comp isn't necessarily a bad idea, but it certainly is a primitive one. The reason why physical team can't compete with other elemental teams (other than not having actually good characters that uses it) is exactly that. Because 1 dps < 3 dps, simple math As to how they can do it, it's just as I mentioned above. There are 2 ways they can approach this: One is making superconduct's damage physical instead of cryo (I can never figure out why it deals cryo dmg)while maintaining the effect of reducing physical resistance, or just directly make them deal physical dmg instead of elemental dmg. Like a physical yelan, physical fischl, physical albedo etc. The latter is a no brainer so no need to explain that. For the prior, making that change will essentially make any cryo and electro dps gain the option to become a physical dps, which is good for both of them *Geo* This one is a tough one tbh. Because unlike physical which technically doesn't even have a reaction, it has. But the thing is the only reaction it has sucks. So unless they change the reaction completely (which they didn't do despite having 3 years of chances), or give them very cracked characters that only works with geo (like a geo furina for example). Releasing better artifact sets that that can better utilize the reaction isn't even a good idea because not only the reaction itself has terrible effect, it's also very clunky to play around with (which they also kept the same for 3 years) So yeah, it's really tough. Because for physical specifically they don't really care about what element they are as long as their kit are mainly physical dmg (yes I know cryo improves it, but they really don't have to be cryo in order to be good), but for geo as long as they are geo and made to deal geo dmg, they'll always struggle because having reaction that is bad is simply worse than not having reaction at all *Cryo* While cryo is a great element to begin with, but it's performance has undeniably went downward as time progress. Without a doubt it need some improvement, but the thing is if you give too much it'll become too good. So for me personally I would just not touch the element itself at all. I'd rather just release stronger characters that utilize it's reaction better As for the middle tiered one like electro and pyro I'd say they are perfectly fine as it is so no need to touch it for now. TGS, nooo! Dendro and electro should be tied, wherever you place them. They're both pretty bad without the other. Looking at them without the other, its standard bloom, burgeon, and burning versus EC, overload and superconduct. In fact, I'd probably take the latter if i had to choose, in a post-chevreuse world. Dendro and electro owe each other lunch money

You know why geo is the best element. They have higher raw damage than most other charecters as they don’t have a whole lot of ways to buff them. And,I love that for the overworld,just using gorou’s skill takes my itto NEAR to his full potential. that is why some of my most favourite charecters are geo like itto and chiori.

the game was rigged against physical from the start, needing a reaction which deals no damage to buff only it means the party is only amplifying physical so elemental damage of other members is wasted. basically geo but worse because geo is flexible, its resonance only needs two geos and buffs both. what physical needs is off field physical electro/cryo supports

What I don't get is why Anemo is so high. All you do is swirl, the rest of the stuff provided is only off of sets or character skills (res reduction, grouping etc), so you're basically judging the characters of that element, not the element itself. For example, if there was a character who would reduce 100% of enemies attack, resistance and defense if superconduct occurs, people would say "wow superconduct is finally great"- no, it isn't, only the character is.
