The pool of liquid on the top of your newly opened yogurt is a phenomenon called "whey separation defect." Whey is one of the two main proteins in milk, and it's completely safe. Simply stir it back into the yogurt for added nutrition.

I used to make yogurt after school and if you want a thick consistency, something like Greek Yogurt, just squeeze out the whey. Then you can use the leftover whey for protein milkshake or add them to the food you eat.

Those are flavoured yogurt that has alot of sugar in it.Greek yogurt is the best choice because it has zero sugar (but tastes kinda sour)

Whenever there's too much of that liquid in my yogurt, it makes me think the yogurt has gone bad. I'd still eat it anyways, so I guess this video helped comfort me. Edit: Actually, I'm not a fan of yogurt. The only brand I really like is Yoplait's Oui ones in the glass jars. They don't have any liqiud. What a shame, I won't receive extra nutrition.

In India, we call it curd and we like using curd to mix our rice with (at least in South India I think). We don't discard the liquid part, in fact young children in our household are encouraged to drink it just like that.

In Turkey we make our own yougurt and it has alot of whey and eat the yougurt with it or mix it with water and add a little salt and drink it

I confess that I took the liquid for water and poured it off, figuring it would make the remaining yogurt a little thicker. But since it's a primary protein factor, I suppose I should mix it back in. Only then the components don't blend evenly unless I stir them so aggressively that the yogurt loses its texture and becomes a carton of slightly viscous lumpy buttermilk.
