I'm very excited to share this video. I loved making it. In this video, I’m going to give you some core differences between the type of love we see expressed in society, the culture, and the world compared to the love that is taught in the Bible… and yes, there’s a big difference. When I was in the New Age, I had a complete distortion of what I understood ‘love’ to be, but at the time I truly perceived ‘love’ to be a deeper spiritual law. It was emotional, but it was more than that. I thought of it as a universal power, used to wield peace and harmony sheerly based on the power of my thoughts and feelings and how I treated others. In my mind, it was through the power of ‘love’ that we’d bring a sort of awakening through humanity. So when I started learning about what the Bible actually taught about love as defined by God, it took a very long time of intentional study to ‘unlearn’ what I was taught.

i feel like acultural is a more fitting term since it's more accurate to what the definition is supposed to be and that's that love transcends culture.
@tkraid2575
@tkraid2575 2 жыл бұрын
@@JT5555 It's transcendent love indeed, but it's "anti- cultural", in the sense that the culture of whatever society practices isn't necessarily respectful of biblical love. Good example would be promiscuity. In modern "culture" it's praised as freedom and bodily independence, but in the Bible it is the very manifestation of a destructive practice that puts people into ruin and is an act tarnishing the concept of love represented by marriage (and marriage is God's design of a loving partnership, which is governed by fidelity and purity, not lust and pleasure). Anything consistently Biblical, surprisingly, considers a big part of cultural practice today as sinful (may it be sleeping around, homosexuality, etc.)

I don't have a good enough vocabulary to express how badly I needed this video. Your words are my thoughts manifested. I've spoke to Pastors at my church who claim that "all you need is love" - and I ask them, are we worshiping God, or the Beatles? There is such a stark difference between what our culture defines as love, and what the Bible defines as love. This video takes the jumbled mess of thoughts in my head, connects it to Biblical truth, and presents it for study. Melissa I've been watching your video's for well over a year now, thank you so much for loving God, and loving others enough to tell them THE truth.

How wisdom is given when a Christian really studies the word. So many called followers don't know what the Bible states about love but so many things. Thank you so much for saying this. I am SO sick and tired of people saying "God is love" and leaving it at that. God is so much MORE than just love, as you have pointed out, He is a complete being. It's gotten to the point that whenever I hear another Christian say "we must be loving in preaching the gospel" or mention "love" in any spiritual context, I have to ask them what they mean by "love". Cause all too often it's the modern American definition of love, not the Biblical one.

I gave my life to Christ young, as I grew up in a Christian household. It wasn’t until recently where I had an epiphany that I was in fact doing what you described as living for the world with a Jesus attachment. My mental shift was embarrassingly not that long ago. I realized I was too nervous or embarrassed to speak out because I wasn’t versed enough. Just a little bit ago I had a “come to Jesus meeting” and He told me to read my Bible daily. I know now that this tool is VERY important to being comfortable enough to speak and have the verses to back it up. Regardless if people understand when hearing those, I’ll know I was speaking His truth. My mind is always blown when I pray about something and almost immediately there is someone speaking through Him back to me. I also hear Him alone but I love when I get that in person as well :) Thank you

I've learned so much from you already and found other folks to learn from as well, like Frank Turek and Allen Parr, because of you. Now at the tender age of [redacted], I feel like I'm just starting my real walk with Christ whereas up until this point I just played at church, read my Bible just to "keep up with other Christians" and tried to get over living through a period in my 20's of being in the word of faith movement. But now, I'm learning to actually think about God's word, and really study my Bible, not just read it to say that I have. And I'm learning to ask questions about why I believe what I believe. Not out of doubt/anger or confusion but because I have this hunger for TRUTH instead of just whatever someone from the pulpit tells me to believe (not knocking pastors there btw) Anyway, gonna wrap this TEDTalk up with just again, saying a sincere "Thank you". We'll probably never met this side of Heaven but I'll look you up when I get there for a hearty high five! :)

No one comes to the Father (a loving relationship with him) except through "the way." The way is true and gives you life.

i'm gonna come at this as gently as i can: the resentment likely all comes from you trying to push your religion on her. if it was her choice to be christain than that's on thing but if you're MAKING her do it (with things such as making her go to a christain school she doesn't want to be at) then all you're going to do is make her not only resent you but your religion (as well as possibly religion as a whole) as well (especially if you also don't like gay people,abortion,trans rights ect because she might become one of those someday and figure that you won't be there to back her up,assuming you don't flat out disown her). now don't get me wrong: i'm not assuming i know your or her lives at all. but statistically speaking,it's a LOT more common for a teenager forced into a religion they don't want to simply resent it rather than change their mind so my advice (as a random stranger on the internet) is that if you ARE pushing your religion on her,you need to back off a bit. you can still try to teach her core values such as what biblical love is,but don't take it so far that you're basically just trying to force her into something she'll just end up hating because there is a much greater chance that she with be doing all the things you fear her doing,AFTER christain high school than she would IN public school. bottom line is that you're just giving her something to rebel against if this isn't what she want's and it's almost guaranteed to blow up in your face when she get pregnant or starts doing drugs when she's done high school and moves out and can do whatever she want's because there's no one telling her what to do. again,i'm not saying i know either of you but i know what's likely to happen if you push her too far. if the resentment get's too serious,you're gonna lose your daughter who'll want nothing to do with you when she finally has the choice.

Because God and His word changed my heart, I began to watch these pastors and teachers like you, Frank Turek, Paul Washer, Voddie Baucham, Justin Peters and Tim Conway and actually LISTEN. This to me is why theology is so very important to scripture. We HAVE to be able to understand God’s word and the meanings OF these scriptures. If we don’t, then we’re just reading and nodding our head unknowingly and Ill advised. Thank you again for what you do and for breaking down scripture for us and helping us to better understand God’s powerful and loving word.

She's found a way to get out of foster care, but her adoptive mother refuses to see her or let her see her adoptive sister. This mother doesn't even come to church, but the older daughter has found a way. This mother is still connected to us via email and will send prayer requests. Melissa, I am having a very hard time loving and praying for this woman, but I will pray for the requests. Pray for me, for if this woman comes back to the Lord then the Lord will put that house back in order. There's so much pain you can almost reach out and touch it. I don't want to be part of that pain, but to be part of God's answer for that whole family. Keep me in prayer. David.

Wow, thank you so much for this video! I was working on a video about forgiveness and true Godly love, but felt that I still lacked an understanding within what true Godly love meant (especially because i had for many years been very stuck within the New Age definition of love) and this clarified the last few questions that had me on the fence from posting what I made. Thank you Melissa for this video and God bless you! 🙏🏼🕊

I loved how you broke everything down and especially how you backed everything up with scriptures with given examples ! Can you touch on the topic on Christians who stop feeling condemned ?

Yes me too! I love that she backed everything up with scriptures and displayed the verses on the screen. For example a lot of Chirches just have the pastor talk without showing the scriptures.

Thank you Melissa for this video, it really helped me. Before clicking the video I thought I already knew what it was about, and to some degree I was right, but wow, this really did help me personally, I haven't been in the Word lately and I think this video exposed how I have been trusting my feelings, it was especially the part when you mentioned that God is stronger than our heart, I've felt so guilty all of the time and I kept reminding myself of the justification I have in Christ, but it just came back every time I did something wrong (even the smallest mistakes sent my mind into frustration). But of course, I want to be careful not to say my mistakes don't matter, they do, and I should always come to God when I fall. Melissa, again, thank you, and most of all, thank God our Father, I love you as a brother in Christ and I want to love my fellow brothers and sisters better, and of course, I want to love God better.

Thank you Melissa, this teaching is what I need right now, in so many ways. I am going to listen to it again and again. I am in a place where I feel I have given all of me and I am not getting anything to refill feeling loved, appreciated, or anything else. I have not had any time out of my home since 2020 and I am dealing with a difficult situation of being a caregiver since this past December, and I am doing it alone. I talk to Father God all day long and ask him for the strength to get through the day as I am disabled also. With you reminding me of how we are to love and not be bitter hit home. I find myself losing my patience and doing my best to hold it in but I don't often succeed. I am going to have my morning coffee with you and watch this before I start my day. Again, thank you. I appreciate you! ✝️

I just wanted to say thank you SO much for this video. I came across it today and what you said blew me away. It helped to open my eyes to the truth of love. Love is something I have struggled with as long as I can remember. My definition was conformed through thr world's definition, and that brought so much hurt and suffering within my life. ... I took so many notes while watching this video. Thank you for sharing scripture that speaks of this. I will be reading and reflecting on these verses for a long while. - Thank you & God Bless you!
