Yeah, in my experience and opinion, they handle sponsored content better than most people. They put forth the good points of the game without overhyping it (if that's even a word, I'm not sure) in the process of satisfying the sponsor. If I remember correctly, on one occasion they even stated the sponsored game's flaw objectively, which to me is a respectable consumer friendly move. Can't remember which video though.

@@benrgrogan I've actually tended to chalk it up to the UK regulations too, but honestly, I doubt that most UK Internet outlets (or even traditional media) would handle sponsored content quite as gracefully as they have even so.

I was about to say... If THIS is the video they show to say the combat is good I think they should have saved on sponsored content...

@@Caio22011 The dev behind Elex has always been rough around the edges. Trust me, as someone who played Elex and their other games...this IS improved.

Controls are definitely very improved, and the overall combat feeling seems better to me as well. I'm not the greatest fan of purely tactical combat with little to no strategic options (as it gets repetetive very fast), but this seems to be the preferred system for most modern games, so that's not ELEX II specific. So, ELEX II handles & plays definitely better than ELEX I, but if it has gotten good enough for you to enjoy is of course hard to predict for anybody that isn't you ;-) Personally I already have more playtime in the second part than the 15 hours after which I gave up on the first one.

Piranha Bytes seems a bit desperate to try and make ELEX 2 a thing, which is understandable regarding the mediocre reviews and obvious shortcomings.

Well Mike does like all sorts of souls born games For example he really seems to like Elden Ring!! Perhaps he may like a game better than another but I'm convinced that he thinks that ELES 2 is at least okay

@@Mediados couple of options friend! if I wanted to see factions fight in a post apocalypse with sass, Fallout New Vegas. I do love the idea of a growing combat based around a growing tension. That seems to have been taken to new heights in ELEX 2 which is cool, but your comment on the gameplay rings true. The lower back mounted backpack with a weightier feel has been done in that EA title that bombed. Similar post apocalyptic metallic feel too! I haven’t had a chance to play this yet though, but the feel of the berzerker faction has an outriders feel. They also combined gunfighting, magic and stabbing wildly.

I think that’s why the game isn’t as expensive as the triple A’s.

I think they're making the comparison more because the combat is simplified in that way but also heavily timing based. Most "soul-like" games are games where not only do they have a similar combat system but the enemies will kill you in 1-3 hits. I don't think this comparison fits here though so maybe that's why the studio didn't want them calling it Souls-like. Too many people bandy it around

DMC isn't the first one that did lock on mechanic tho.

When I think lock on I usually think of 3d zelda games. Also, there are plenty if Souls-likes that don't even have lock-on.

Why? They have pretty different target groups, Elden Ring is for people who love soulslike/challenging games, while Elex 2 is more for oldschool RPG players who wanna just explore without too much of a hassle.

A game doesn’t need to sell millions of copies to be a success when it didn’t have a budget of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Considering Elex was already their seventh Game after 3x Gothic and 3x Risen, it should be no surprise. The drawbacks that made neither of those games an overwhelming success that everybody loves have always been there, but there have always been enough people that liked the games to keep them making new ones. Also, go have a look at Steam, there are literally tens of thousands of games that are much worse than ELEX 1. It wasn't fantastic, but realistially it was still pretty good compared to 99% of the competition.

Like learning to play first person shooters.... Fallout 3 could throw difficult enemies at me early and then it would feel good when I can come back and they're easy cause I found better gear and leveled up a bunch.... But with borderlands it was always I never have any ammo because while I'm learning how to aim I have can only equip one weapon at a time and I'm finding every other ammo type expert the one I need.... And I get frustrated and just give up because I'm not having any fun and that's the entire point of playing games.... Far cry games seem to be best when I have the dlc that gives me sniper rifles early... And the enemies aren't damage sponges. And destiny seems to have done a decent job meeting me at my skill level and helping me improve... Like I felt like I needed to grind up my level to stay ahead of the power level of the activity in the first destiny.... But for the second I didn't need to do that.... And I think I got further in the borderlands games... Got nowhere in them.... Then after destiny got a decent way through the pre sequel... And I beat far cry 5 while I only ever play far cry 3 to the burning the weed field.

This style of difficulty curve I used to enjoy - I remember my first playthrough of Morrowind, where I wandered into a dungeon and got caned by a random warrior wearing the best armour in the game. When I was more powerful, I came back and beat him for his armour. But I haven't played anything with that curve for a while....

I didn't enjoy it, and from the footage here, the devs haven't fixed any of the issues I had with it.

Eurojank is apparently a genre? Its like flawed but imaginative games made by small studios that would absolutely absolutely murder if they had been made by bigger studios? Idk

You can find it cheap enough that it might be worth a punt, but it does have issues. It's also not a small game & you'll need to invest quite a bit of time in order to even see most of what it's got. Don't expect a smooth ride though; it's very much a AA experience. If you do give it a try, I would recommend getting it on PC & taking a look at the available mods.

That game series was great for story and had some great things for the time. But man the combat was hard and awkward.

Not sure if you know but Ellen managed to catch Covid and is doing a bit better but taking longer to recover because she is immunocompromised. That will be why she's been absent

The last Gothic game came out 15 years ago, and the last Risen 8 years ago, that's a loooong time in video/computer game terms.

I agree with the originality and variety part, it's rather rare to see a game with both sci-fi and magic combined and seem to make sense in the context of the game That last part though, seemed much more like an opinion rather than fact. And you can base your statement on just opinions, it's totally alright, not everything we speak have to be credible.

It is good IMO. It’s just not a high budget title and it’s evident. The world design is really good as is the thematic combination of old and new technology. Gameplay and story wise, it’s clear passion was put into this game but it’s also very clear that it didn’t have a big team or a high budget. I don’t think we should be dismissing a game because it didn’t have hundreds of millions of dollars put into it and wasn’t made by a team of hundreds of people.

@@dirpyturtle69 gameplay looks rough too, theres a lot that can be excused when it comes to games but this has many flaws. the voice acting is really bad. the combat is horrid to look at. the graphics could get a pass if there weren't so many options for making things look at least better than this 2005 looking thing. and from the look of it the story is bad as well with very powerful groups somehow not just dominating and were not talking just spacemen vs normal people were talking spacemen vs medieval people. Then there's the difficulty which mike compared to dark souls and "its difficult on purpose" which is an excuse for poor balancing. There's no real reason to give it a shot especially since they somehow had the money to pay for a shout out but not the funds to actually improve anything since the last game.

@@acewmd. combat is outdated but serviceable, Voice acting isn’t that bad, it’s not fantastic sure but it’s also not bad. Graphics are terrible yeah but again this isn’t a triple A game with more money then god behind it, there’s a reason why it’s so outdated.Sponsorships are not indicative of money, it only costs a couple hundred bucks at the minimum to get a sponsored video. The world design is good IMO, it’s not just high tech vs medieval peasants with sword and bows, you have a high tech religious group that won’t attack without reason, a high tech group that’s addicted to mind altering elex, a group of bandits that’s struggling to keep up with the rest of the factions and uses whatever they can find but is slowly dying out, a group of medieval tech level people that have magic and prioritize rebuilding the ecosystem of the planet, and then your standard doomsday cult that’s a mix of all of the above when it comes to technology and magic. This game is outdated sure but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying. That’s like saying that older games arnt worth trying because they are outdated. This game has more passion put into it then 90% of triple A games do and it’s apparent when your playing the game. This game wasn’t made with focus groups and market research, it was made because the devs wanted to make it. That alone should warrant giving it a shot.

That's what I was thinking like playing a 360 game on the series X and the game sounds like the game looks as well dated

Yeah they have some crap but I liked the original gothic series (except 3 ran god awful) yeah combat was clumsy and the game could be hard as nails but it had a lot going for it and a decent story. Risen was also good but again a bit rough, and combat was clumsy . Piranha also made mech warrior 5 and after its add one has been pretty fun, not as good as the originals in the day, but still fun. Haven’t played elex but it’s nice to have alternatives to the next boring dark souls game or next elder scrolls or fallout which had a lot of their own win problems.
