Fancy cars have fancy prices. I serviced an Aston Martin few weeks back and the spark plugs from dealer were £40 per plug upon taking out of box they had ngk number on them which was the same as a £7.71 plug from Europarts.

As reguards the Lambo, Do It Yourself. Use the recommended oils and filters. It's only a car at the end of the day, and you are more likely to do it carefully and correctly. Two hours for a pollen filter! That's got to be tricky to do. Maybe removing half the dashboard. You'll probably end up with shattered plastic all over the place if you try it yourself as well because it's Italian. I'm a mechanic too and normally I do my own stuff but sometimes it just isn't worth the hassles and effort. Plus it's a Lambo and ppl are going to be sticklers for genuine service stamps. The reason most dealers use the words "service kit" now days is that the manufacturer uses the wording "if required" in their service manual. This means that the dealer will only fit the parts they think you need, not all the parts in the kit. You will be charged for everything mind you.

I would check the labour timd against auto data for the service you need, and maybe ring another dealer from a different group and ask them for a quote. Agreed, get the alternative quote so that you will be better informed. I would suggest Tyrells Classic Cars -he deals with classic Lambos and other special cars, also check out his videos on KZfaq. Harry Metcalfe, ex EVO magazine contributor and classic car stable owner uses Tyrells for his Lambos. I would also call Lambo UK to get advice on what service should be carried out and the book time for it. It seems what we have here is pricing on the basis of what the customer will stand (and maybe the projected cash flow for the week) rather than professional accounting.

I disagree but only in one aspect. If the book time is 1hr, but you haven't even been in the building for an hour, how can you charge someone an hour with a straight face? I arrived at 1pm once. Waited 15min before the tech drove my car in. 10 minutes later the car was out, and they wanted an hours labor for 10 minutes. That is pure theft IMO.
@clivewilliams3661

@@pullyoursocksup6302 When you run a business that is dependant on time charges you cannot expect to charge per minute or per second, you must have time slots during which the work is carried out and the standard in car servicing is one hour. Sometimes the job takes 1hr -5min and I doubt very much whether you would be charged 2 hrs. If you have booked in 8 jobs each taking 1 hr, for the day and the tech takes 45mins on each one so that at the end of the day you could only charge 3/4 of the expected labour charge because you charge by the minute, you would not last as a business because that tech needs to be paid for his/her down time between each job.

When you look at a service schedule it's all check/inspect; no wheels are removed and precious little physical effort is involved. The things you would expect to be included all seem to come at additional cost. During my time at a BL dealership I was astonished at the cost of servicing XJ6's when so little work was actually included, definitely a case of if they can afford the car then they won't wince at the costs. Many years ago I had a Vauxhall Astra and at 3 years old went to the main dealer thinking it was the right thing to do for a first MOT. They said the brakes and disks were completely worn out and the whole lot needed replacing at over £400 just for parts, never mind the labour. Having grown up servicing my own cars I had my suspicions and took it elsewhere. My son has had work done on his car, a Mondeo Mk3, and he was billed for 12 hours labour. I've owned 3 of those cars, had identical work done and 6 hours labour was generous. I challenged the garage and reminded them that they did the same work on my previous cars. Refused to back down but I'd taken advice from a Solicitor I work for who told me to write "Paid in Protest" on the bill and he'd deal with it pro bono. In the end, we got it down to 8 hours and paid it as the lad needed the car back. I'm baffled as to why the attempt was made to overcharge as we'd been going there with all 4 of our vehicles for years. Business with the garage has now ceased and I'll discourage others from going there. You have to be able to justify what you charge a customer so it's right to expect the Lambo dealer to do the same. When you want a service book full of stamps from a main dealer that’s where they’ll have you over a barrel, especially with a prestigious marque. Another thing, under ICO guidelines this does potentially constitute a data breach. It’s considered serious if harm could arise from personal data being sent to the wrong recipient, and if an invoice containing a name, address, car reg/make/type etc. landed in bad hands you can imagine the possibilities for harm being caused. You may also have a case to bring to trading standards, standards being the operative word as your dealer doesn’t seem to have any in the billing department. That’s what they’re there for, give them a call.

i stuck to the same manufacturer for years due to the dealership I was dealing with - fantastic people and always went as far as they could to sort things out, then the dealership was closed, alternate dealer wasn't as good - and they stopped making a car I wanted - then I bought a Jag and.. yeah. nope not going back to the dealers I dealt with.. once out of warranty I found a local Specialist independent, great set of lads, literally half the price - but use genuine parts and update the official online service log, no courtesy car, no complimentary taxi, no latte's, no swanky premises - but also no BS ... LAMBO: 10 hours for a minor service + pollen filter (we all know glove boxes are hard to get off) .. they really are extracting the Michael - that recent other client quote exposed the bleep out of them

Same in Australia. I do most of my own maintenance as I'm a former mechanic but there's still a couple of jobs that I have to pass on to VW and Ford. Their labour rates and times are all over the shop, makes no sense, resulting in similar conversations as yours. Most people just pay and drive away and don't question the bill.

So a £1400 job ends up at nearly £3000, the main Dealers are the worst, to many addons walking around in suits. enjoy the video's regards John

I had a shopping list of electrical faults on my Jaguar XKR from no tacho, heated seats, fog lights etc. the main dealer quoted £6500 to correct them. They even charged £600 for the diagnosis. I took it to a trusted independent and it turned out to be a failed supplementary heater pump upsetting the CANBUS. £27 for a 2nd hand part from eBay and an hours labour. Lesson learnt!

My opinion on this topic would be it is a VW Ag. product and based on Audi parts therefore only need the factory files for service intervals (autodata) and you can do it in house. The only down point won't be a dealer recorded service history.

Not surprising really, they’re all at it!. I remember a plant machinery dealers telling my boss they wouldn’t give us any service info on valve clearances because we weren’t spending enough with them. We had regularly got filters oils grease and parts from them and we had several machines working from their brand, after some arguing over a few phone calls, the boss contacted another company who dispatched a salesman and between them agreed on a deal for traded in replacements!, the main dealers don’t have it all their own way.

Not really as that labour pays for the business overheads not just the tech working on the car. They'd be better off just saying this is price, when you say how much for labour people feel ripped off because they think of their hourly rate they get paid but have zero overheads.

@@Robert-cu9bm Yes, most people have zero idea how much it costs to run a business and never think of rent, insurance or professional expenses. To buy a license for the Lamborghini diagnostic software runs into thousand per year, not to mention specialised tools, or even tool in general.

My Jaguar XF is serviced by the local dealer and to be fair, my local independent garage couldn't beat the price. In another life, I had a service contract for my Mercedes SLK. Two weeks after a major service, the engine light came on for a cam sensor. This was done by my local independent, but the bigger problem was with the front brakes. The warning light came on and when I took it to my independent (Mercedes couldn't see it for two weeks!) It transpired the pads were on metal and the discs were badly lipped. I took the old parts to show the service manager and asked why the brakes hadn't been checked during the service. I was told this wasn't normally done! I've no idea what else wasn't checked, so I got my independent to go through the whole car. Last time I went to Mercedes!

Just a quick note on the Lambo saga. There are some variations on pollen filters and transmissions on Lambo/R8 vehicles. The service advisor dealing with your vehicle, should be able to access the correct types by entering your chassis number on there system. The transmission systems have completely different draining and filling techniques, as do the pollen filters, which are accessed in the passenger footwell under the dash. Service and repair times are fixed, but the interpretation of them is down to the service adviser and his knowledge of the systems. They can be confusing to a novice adviser, so mistakes can be made.

As someone said, Dealerships are Stealerships. Not a Lambo but took a Mitsubishi in for a 2 year/30k service to a main dealer. The vehicle is under a Capped Price Service Plan. Their Customer Service rep rang me up with a whole list of so-called faults and other recommended items. My throttle body is dirty, at 30k??? They recommend that the aircon is recharged every 2 years, they recommend a fuel injector clean etc etc. The first time I agreed to some of these items, but I found that pushing all this money making extra stuff has become the normal way of operating for large dealers. It happened again at the 3 year service. I declined all the extras. It actually turns out cheaper to forgo the capped price service and go to my local mechanic who isnt in the add-on business.

Had a Porsche until last summer. Never felt comfortable with the main dealer as I got the impression they wanted to milk me. Took mine to a local independent and they could not have been more helpful. They even coded some extra features (auto wipers) without an extra charge, which the main dealer wanted to charge over £500 for a module that was needed as it was not possible to do so without. Look for a good independent. Watch JayEmm if you want a view on supercar dealers.

Have watched for about a year now! My brother ran with myself before a blue a mechanic business so 100% loved ur honesty and take on the ins and out of running a business. Leave a spec of dirt in a car and they don’t wanna pay, some unrelated problem happens ie overheating bearings heads or gaskets after a couple of months of a service it’s our fault so we should pay, like u I’ve seen it all! I reckon all these morons that say they wouldn’t use u r clearly customers that have no idea the stuff we put up with. My brother was a lot beta with customers than me. But I totally love ur channel, hearing about the warranty jobs and the lengths people go to to try get out of paying, expecting the world with out paying when the problem is their fault or just one of those unfortunate things that u can’t know about unless ur expected to pull the motor apart for a regular service. That’s all ur trying to show plus informative stuff regarding rebuilding, heads ect which even I have learned a fair bit from. U can never stop learning! 100% agree on Lamborghini! They messed up big tim. Typical!! Ur no mug!!! I’m from Australia so cool too to c uk side of rhings

Normally I take my car to any other mechanic then the brand dealership of my car to save money. Exeption to that rule was when I had a 1991 Merceded 190E, the mercedes dealership had half the cost of repairs and service of any other as long as I did stick to bringing my own parts or ask them to order non mercedes parts to save cost. That Mercedes saved me a LOT of money in service and parts over the 10 years I had it.

I think you are being had. Find another Lambo dealer, tell them what you want done to the vehicle, and ask for a quote including a breakdown of parts and labour. Even considering the complexity of vintage super cars, the hours quoted seem quite high when you have trained, specialised technicians using the correct tools and procedures in a fully kitted out workshop. If the first deal stands their ground, ask if you can film the service from start to end so that people can see how much work is involved. :-)

Simon should be contactable because he runs a track day business using his Lambo as one of the hire cars and he writes for Evo magazine, I think he's over 250,000 miles now but he could be a good source of Lamborghini info.

I'm not sure how tracks measure db levels in England but here in America all the db meters are to drivers left so we knowing cars won't make the sound level take an put a bull horn tip on the exhaust exit aiming down and to the driver right. It isn't any quieter however it confuses the meter and we pass. Most of the tracks are 103 db during wheel to wheel days

@@stusummers4397 in a manner I guess you can say that yes but by aiming the tip of the exhaust down and away it does infact quiet the high pitch noise that tend to spike db meters in it's self.
