My favorite part is how realistic it all was. Logan didn’t burn out like a mythic hero in a fiery blaze of glory. He just died. It’s real and it’s understated and it just makes the episode so, so much greater. The portrayal of grief was so realistic as well. As someone who has experienced some traumatic losses, the show hit the nail on the head. Such a fantastic episode

God it was a tough watch. But I loved Connor getting to marry Willa, he's the only one that never had that attachment to Logan, he's better off without him. He has a much more pragmatic look at love and relationships, who gave so much love to his siblings that they never return. How ironic that his 'joke' of a relationship in season one, is now the most successful of all the Roy siblings. I'm a Conhead through and through.

I believe Jeremy Strong said the 28 pages of script was shot over 5 days. I too feel that a family member of mine has died. Brilliant writing to bring this very real moment into the series just like it happens in real life, death is often untimely and inconvenient. Those of us who are fans have been attached to Logan Roy, like his children, watching every move, listening to every word, as if his character is the main character, shocked by the sudden heart attack stealing him from our world. But in reality, the title ‘Succession’ tells us that Logan is not the main character but the children are the main characters, an ensemble of narcissistic, entitled, smart asses, that are in the struggle of their lives, against each other, against the entrenched senior management, against the board of directors to decide who will be the SUCCESSOR of WayStar, and the wealth and power that brings.
@VictorMontel

Everyone is talking about the timing of the death, mid-season and all, and it was shocking. But, think with me for a second: You all remember Armstrong said the show was supposed to run through 5 seasons, right? And, in the end, they confirmed this will be the last season of the show, through creative choice alone. So, i can't help but wonder: was Logan's death supposed to be the end of season 4 and season 5 was supposed to be the the kids dealing with the fallout of this? It sounds like it. But the way they just decided to shorten this made it so unpredictable. I guess we all knew Logan would die at some point and this was supposed to be the climax of a storyline, but this just threw our expectations on the trash and made it something just so much better than we all expected it to be. It's crazy how good this episode was and how much more engaging this made the whole season.

We all got caught LACKING big time. And even when the news break out like 5 mins in, we're still unable to determine what just happened until the end of the episode because since the first episode, we got presented with the omnipotent strength of Logan Roy. @43quin
@43quin Жыл бұрын
I totally agree, and it baffles me how people see Logan as the Main Character(tm) when the show has always been about the entire family. Just because he is the head of the family doesn't mean he is the sole main character in the show - I think it's pretty obvious that the show focuses much more on all the different people in play that can *succeed* him, hence the title of the show. This show had two big questions to answer: Who succeeds Logan, and how does Logan fall? The latter has just been answered, which is why this episode is massive in terms of the narrative. It means that a successor is imminent (unless the empire simply collapses) and the only question left to answer is who it will be. This is not a show about Logan, it's a show about all the possible *successors* to Logan.

Your opinion is your opinion, but nevertheless...it's a poor one. This episode has shifted the entire focus of the show and is hinting at an inevitable bloodbath for the foreseeable future. The story is finally coming full circle and promising to deliver what's implied through the title. The point being: this episode carries "narrative weight" (highly important) and serves to be a "point of entry" into the chaos to unravel for the rest of the season. On an artistic and technical level, it's a feat of mastery. The real-time structure of the episode compounds the tragedy and the intensity grows as each minute passes; thanks to the wonderful direction of Mark Mylod. The writing showcases the kids in their most emotionally raw, and this is strengthed by the phenomenonal performances by the cast. Jesse Armstrong and his team have outdid themselves with their take of how The Death of Logan Roy would play out. It's akin to a Greek tragedy, and a compelling one at that. The fact that they managed to manifest a surreal experience out of a predictable event such as Logan's death is deserving of praise. If you have ever had a family member pass and couldn't be there in their final moments, this episode would have hit too close to home..and that is what made it brilliant. It's a realistic, no-bullshit portrayal of the impact of a death in a family. Apart from that, you didn't even have to have gone through what the kids went through to feel their trauma during this episode. That is skillful story telling. But hey...that's just my opinion...as well as the opinion of 99% of the people that watched it.

No i didn't get it either. Who gives a toss about any of these characters? And not cause they're "bad people". Tony Soprano was a "bad person" but he had moral ambiguity. We saw him love, eat, kill, get angry, get sad, have transcendent revelations on hallucinogens etc etc...I don't care about any of these characters because they're just vehicles for smart-arse one liners from the writers. I'm happy for everyone who loves it so please don't pile on. I just don't geddit. I only really care about ROMAN and that's just cause I've always loved Rory Culkin since Igby Goes Down (in which he plays pretty much the same character). He's a charismatic dude.

@@joelpillay9579 But this was always going to happen wasn't it? Logan was destined to die in this show from the very first episode So i dont understand why so many people are shocked that he died. Regarding his kids, trauma you say? well i honestly couldn't care less about their trauma and their reaction to his death. They are all pieces of shit who were having fun poking their dad just a couple of episodes back and now oh no he is dead we are sad now. If they were all close to their dad and logan wasnt such a shitty father then i would understand their reactions. They should be celebrating that he is dead but they are pretending to shed a few forgotten tears, like cmon. If this episode is the pinnacle of tv then im sorry but the standards have fallen off a cliff This was a solid 8/10 episode. Im not even saying it was bad or anything. It just wasn't as masterful as everyone is making it out to be People these days have gotten extremely dramatic. Crying and being shocked over the most simplest of things. Anyone could have written this episode. We kill off logan and then we show everyone's panic and reaction. End of episode. This was not even close to being the greatest tv episode of all time. You wanna see what is and should be considered as a masterful tv episode? Go see breaking bad,better call saul,Mr. Robot and you'll know

@maxwesty give me a break. A realistic showcase of an event shouldn't be enough to classify this as one of the greatest tv episodes.

i’ve never been more surprised at a death on a show in a more natural and understated way, even though it was the most obvious thing in the world. that was the brilliance of it
