If this description made you think about someone in particular, you should need to re-examine your biases, because I just literally described every single main character in the show.

I'll give you a suggestion: whenever a character in HOTD makes a blatant mistake (which happens every three minutes in the show), try to ask yourself if it fits some consistent, overarching message over the nature of Power, competence, legacy, and generational trauma... because when you say that Rhaenys is just a dumb character that takes dumb decisions, you may have been missing the whole point of the show.

If you like the battle at Rook Rest, the 2 best upcoming dragon fights that will top this one easily, are the battle at the God´s eye and the most chaotic one and probably the one that will use up the entire CGI budget will be the first and second battle of Tumbleton. Cheers for the upload. I don't think Rhaeny's could've known that the war would DEFINITELY happen. At the point when she had the Greens in BBQ range, there had only been a bloodless coup until that point. Had she unleashed Meleys on them, she'd have DEFINITELY started a war, and would've burnt a family to a crisp, kids and all, unprovoked. I doubt anyone but Daemon or Larys could've been THAT cold. At first I was disappointed that she and Meleys had burst through the dragon-pit floor, probably killing thousands, but it was that or lose her dragon whom she was bonded to, and gift the Greens the equivalent of a fighter jet in medievil times. Agreed on the return to battle for Rhaenys though. She really should've went for back-up after either seeing Grandma Vhagar or at least after dumping her senile ass on the deck, but I suspect that she felt she had a chance one-on-one, and maybe the guilt of not burning the Greens when she had a chance, especially given Lucerys got the chomp, drove her to try. Crazy move though against Sky-Godzilla. RIP. Loving the show, by the way (Aegon's complex and tragic characterisation, Daemon losing his mind in Harrenhal <I think it'll be more relevant as we go>, Aemond and Vhagar being the scariest combination since Nickleback and recording studios, and so much more).

If Rhaenys had left the battlespace, Vhagar would have turned Rook's Rest into Rook's Roast if they didn't surrender already. Strategically, she should have abandoned the coastal keep, it's not worth losing a dragon over, but I guess she took her duty to the very end.

I feel like the rhaenys scene at the coronation was added for cool factor but didn’t mesh with the actual events that play out in the story so it looks worse on her when it’s really kinda bad writing. But rationalizing the character I think she seemed the most hesitant to partake in a war of kin vs kin and especially didn’t want to mercilessly kill the children of her cousin, even if it was a choice she knew she’d regret later

When Tom offered himself up to Logan to go to jail it was the one time we see Logan genuinely impressed and surprised. I think Tom was always going to be the one even if Logan lived, and maybe the Swede saw that, or maybe Logan mentioned it to him in Italy. I don't know, I'm just upset it's over so I'm making up scenes in my head go keep it going.

I agree the Frenchie plot is dragging the show down. Hughie just had a huge defining moment that shows how much he has grown and evolved as a character meanwhile Frenchie hasn't grown at all. It feels too late in the show for his character to be taking so much screen time and not really developing or going anywhere.

I don't think it's "Struggling" exactly, but I personally enjoyed the first three seasons more so far. Sub plots weren't as abundant for the first three seasons, or they were at least more fun and closely tied to the main plot of the show. Gonna be hard to distract from the main story when supes are taking over America.

Also, there's a lot of nuance in the political mindgames in modern times. Yea everyones aware of crappy government and the crappy performative politics but they show some stuff that goes over our head. @@JungleForce i dont think you do understand though. i honestly dont think their intention with frenchies relationship was to ever make us care about the other guy, he was purely a plot device to drive frenchies character forward. while i agree that frenchies boyfriend DID come out of nowhere and felt weird thats ALL i can say about it because ultimately that plot point was not about him. frenchie is now having to make life altering decisions over his guilt and i think thats great! you need to consider that in-universe its been months between season 3 and 4, frenchie and the other guy had time to develop their relationship even if we never got to see it. we may not care about him but frenchie does and thats the whole point of the story arc.
@JungleForce
@JungleForce 29 күн бұрын
I know but when you create a relationship and an arc for a character obviously the character is gonna care about it but you have to make it resonate with the viewer or it doesn’t work. Using Colin as a plot device is a bad thing bc its makes ppl care less bc the character isn’t 3 dimensional. If he is exchangeable then its not a character worth having in the story. Screen time is crucial and wasting it on stuff that is just there to pad time and push a character to a desired outcome isnt worth having. I don’t mind the desired outcome but again the prob is the path to it

Everyone who makes the feminist argument for Shiv being a victim of patriarchy leaves out that fact she knows nothing about Roy Industries. At all. During the entire series she shines in manipulating people, she's a social climber, not a businesswoman , the "it's because she's a girl" horseshit loses all validity when the Pierce women came into the series, they're all women and all of them are on a different wavelength compared to Shiv, which is why Shiv gets so irritated and blurts out what she blurts out at the table. She was annoyed at the men of Royco had to stop in and do so much talking during the negotiations with the Pierce women because Shiv COULDNT HANDLE IT. For as goofy as the Royco men were, they understood the business, Shiv didnt. Period.
@annkey4091
@annkey4091 Ай бұрын
There is no feminist argument. Siobhan Roy was a dutiful daughter. She sold the business as Logan wanted and as Lady Caroline Collingwood said they should. She ended up being a partner with her husband Tom by voting to make him a CEO and having his child, as they both decided on in Season 1: he would "wear the big trousers", she would have his baby and do as she pleased. She became a Wambsgans by literally blowing up the Roy family (which is why she accepted Tom's invitation to go home with him).

@@annkey4091 "She ended up being a partner with her husband Tom by voting to make him a CEO and having his child" - The exact concept that she was disgusted early on in the marriage, but jumped right into when she saw Tom wasn't the weak follower she thought he was. When Tom showed he was a real man during the election drama and instead of FIGHTING HIM, which is what Shiv was supposed to do, she cowered and became the good housewife - why? Because again, she's a social climbing coward.
@annkey4091
@annkey4091 Ай бұрын
@@iamcase1245 Pardon? With her money and surname, what social ladder was she climbing? Show reads like she started with a leg up on her husband and billions of other people. The use of partner was how Siobhan introduced Tom to Connor while going to visit Logan at home after he left the hospital in S1. WHEN YOU ARE A WOMAN, YOU GO WITH THE BEST OFFER. No offers were coming from her brothers, that is for sure. As far as seeing Tom as a weakling, I am not so sure. She thought that he was "broad" before she married him. At the end of S3, Shiv found out he still is, as he carved his own corporate path without her. At the end of series, he is a 6'3" person who, yes, does the corporate thing for the man who writes his paycheck (just like he did for Logan). As far as the election was concerned, Shiv could not and would not fight Tom in front of Roman and Kendall, with whom she also had election issues. Tom is a paid employee of Kendall and Roman, like he was with Logan. It is something that he clearly understood. In fact, the argument with Tom included her pregnancy announcement, which she did not reveal to her brothers until the next day. Did you watch the program at all? Tom maybe angry/disappointed with Shiv, but he did invite her to his car as he knew it was a good idea to get her away from Matsson and that she blew up her Roy family. They will continue their "get mad, then get glad (in the boudoir)" relationship. Tom's "first, I look at the purse" strategy rewarded him handsomely as concerns of obtaining money, expensive suits and watches and other nice things came to fruition (as he and Siobhan agreed in S1).

I think you meant to say "When you are a woman, you go with what benefits you regardless of betraying any allegiances you have because for a woman it's all about the bag". There I fixed it for you. Now, it terms of her being a dutiful daughter, apart from the glaring contradictions with the rest of your message, if she's so dutiful why did she betray the family 4 times in 3 three years? Once every 9 months. That's a coward. But...she's a woman...so she has to go with the bag...right? Same goes with her predigree. If she carries the Roy and has it all then why betray that name for a bullshit cabinet job? Could be because she's a social climbing piece of shit? Yeah I think that's why. Even Roman, who is a rat sniveling piece of shit never goes as low as Shiv anywhere during the shows arc.

That's something that I don't see anyone discussing. The money goes to Fuches and he essentially gives Barry an allowance from that. What exactly is going to happen when Fuches dies? Is Barry going to receive an inheritance? He has left Barry with essentially no marketable skills except for murder because he made it so that Barry could function in life without him around. Every time Barry tried to do something for himself, Fuches stepped in and reminded him that his purpose was to kill and anything else was a waste of effort. Finally Barry had to kick him out just so he could have the freedom of space to explore and grow as a person just to develop other interests and life skills. Fuches essentially created a world where Barry could not look in any other direction without seeing his face blocking him.
