The theory that I have seen on it is that it is effectively a blunt, so you don't damage the pelt, and that when you hit grass with it, it just stops allowing for easy retrieval. So it is especially effective against small game that is on the ground, in a field or in front of some reeds. Waterfowl you'd probably use a wooden blunt though.

Small fur points were often V shaped rather than half moon. They had the secondary benefit of catching the ground and popping straight up with the fletching visible for easy retrieval if you missed, whereas most points would bury themselves in the grass or dirt and be difficult to spot.

Nate was completely right. 'Shot' comes from Proto-Germanic 'skuta', which meant, well, 'shot', and referred specifically to arrows. In other words, it's been with us for a while, and been used about archery. 'Loose' also works, but 'shot' would probably have been considered the more accurate term, back when bows were used for, um, less silly things than this.

Shad is Clarkson (high energy, overconfident, actually very smart while playing dumb for a bit), Tyranth is Hammond (youngest of the three, most technically apt, quite grumpy) and Nate is May (seemingly clueless, knows the theory of their field better that the other two, artistically inclined, but failing most challenges). Cressant heads are, according to Tod, for (either) -birding -letting the arrow fall out of the wound (because they don't penetrate very far and come out easily) so the shaft doesn't plug it and the game is easier to track and bleed out -not losing the arrow in grass when hunting small game like rabbits, because they'll catch on the grass and flip instead of burrying under The fact they are represented on hunting scenes and the fact an arrow spins makes it hard to believe they were used to cut ropes.
@mandowarrior123
@mandowarrior123 5 ай бұрын
There are many more you've missed. Fishing for example. Just because the arrow spins doesn't mean it doesn't drasticly help to hit a rope. The main benefit imho is it increases hit rate on small targets of any kind. Looking into it though Karimata (forked arrowheads) are really expensive arrows classed in the finely crafted war arrowheads. One consideration is armour pieces are held on/together by rope in samurai armour. It also may bite better into their soft silk protection. Most any of the ropes holding the armour together would really disable you. Maybe it really is rope cutting armour. Another explaination may be shinto spiritualism. Rope has significance and archery is practiced as a monastic tradition in japan. So it could even just be a skill shot. My point is there are I believe too many plausible explainations to narrow down that far, but i think the practical utility of war rope cutting is overlooked in a japanese setting- in the west a special arrowhead probably won't help as much vs the leather straps/lacing. Having said that it would be interesting to see it tested vs soft armour- it may tear chunks out of it and degrade it too. In depictions of japanese warfare soldiers are often laden with arrows in their soft armour, they might simply grip better and inhibit even if they fail to damage. Or- maybe even they cut the ropes holding the saddle together. Give me 10 more minutes i could maybe come up with 10 more.
@dearcastiel4667
@dearcastiel4667 5 ай бұрын
@@mandowarrior123 It doesn't drasticaly help hitting the rope tho, the only way for it to work is to get a perfect hit with the rope at 90° in the cressant, otherwise it has no way to cut the rope, and if the arrow is hoocentered it will topple due to the cressant shape where a regular leaf shape arrow not being centered on the rope will still cut with the portion of the edge that connects. I don't see how it it remotely useful for fishing, one of the main characteristics of this arrow is that it comes out of the target easily, if the arrow comes out of the fish you lose the fish... If you want to cut ropes on an aromor, the cressant shape doesn't help, if anything it's less effective because if the points hit armor the center of the arrow doesn't hit the rope you want to cut. An arrow like this -------

This got me thinking about that awful rings of power scene where the watchtower was somehow held up by a rope. So I chuckled at the idea of the guys building a tower actually held together by a rope and finding that the whole scene was plausible... then they move on, scene by scene, through the whole series and find that everything was plausible. Stab-twist-gut turns out to be the world's deadliest killing blow, wooden masts sink like anchors, riding a horse on the beach gives the rider a sweeping orgasm, and the sea is in fact always right. Maybe Tyranth can make it a series on Screen Tested?

Wooden masts can sink like anchors. The question isn't can you bring down a tower held together with rope but the engineering involved in setting that up. You'd have to build the tower to collapse like that, no? Cruel intensions 2 documentary taught me that's why girls like horses. Nobody has argued against the sea and won, not even a king. The volcano scene you missed where the water pours into an open pressure vessel side chamber and instead of blowing out the way the water came in mt doom explodes. The water being damed there is plausible to cause water to permeate into the magma chamber though, draining it would be preventative if anything- Maybe he was trying to save mordor from the eruption and long tern plan to set it off paha. Why does the vampiric keyblade demolish the dam? What's wrong with a simple sluice gate? Why not have magic set the bloody volcano off? Or it tickle a dweller in the dark so he bangs on the volcano's somach. Why can the orcs understand the not so cryptic map and nobody else for a thousand years? Why did 'ladriel jump off the ship when they still offered returns back then? Why didn't ladriel fight in the war if she is a warrior? Why is there no sign of her seer powers of remote viewing and reading the future AAHHH YOU'VE TRIGGERED MY POST TRAUMATIC STRESS

@@mandowarrior123 Look at all that material for them to test though. 1- They take a boat out into the ocean and we get to see Shad and Tyranth risk their lives trying to outswim one another, to the final conclusion that she was stupid. 2- Upon return, they ask the sea if they should test the volcano scene using a few drums of sea water. They take its silence as affirmation. 3- They dump the water into the nearest volcano and see what happens. If the result is dope, the sea was right. If nothing happens, they’ve proven the scientists over at rings of power wrong on three counts in one super easy work day.

On just untying it, ever try to untie a knot that is under tension? Without tools, improvised or otherwise? Gravity acting on the occupant of the platform increases the tension the lashings that bind the bars and the base of the gibbet together are under. While the increased tension makes them easier to sever, it also makes it a fair bit harder to manipulate the ropes.

If you had a quarterstaff, it would be possible to wind the cord around the staff then have 1 or 2 people pull on the staff, relieving the tension

Or, you know, just have the rest of the party pull on the rope to take tension off of the knot. But being an adventuring party, I'm sure that someone has a sharp object of some kind.

On the subject of the targets difficulty to hit, a coin sized target is fine, giving it a +4 to AC, and occasionally the spin puts objects in the way. A base of 10 for all things. So you are looking at and AC of 14-16

This made me think that perhaps something with more punch would work better. Reminding me of your fireball and fire arrow tests. Gave me the idea of explosive arrows as well if that was something you were interested in exploring, there’s an Australian KZfaq Chemist (from Perth I think) called “Explosions and Fire”/“Extractions and Ire” who might be able to find and make a historically plausible compound that complies with Australian law

I headshot a squirrel out of a tree from a little further distance and height, while I was in the crouched position. But I was using carbon fiber arrows, and a compound bow probably made in the late 1900's-early 2000's that I found at a local flea market for $40. Still a good shot for the rig I was using, and the position, distance, and angle I was shooting from. And yes, I ate him.

BG3 is one of the most polished games created in some time. No surprise it's so popular. Heaps of replayability and really fun. And I agree, DnD Adventurers are enhanced humanoids. Head and shoulders above the capabilities of normal people. A DnD monk would win the 100m sprint in the Olympics by some margin. It's a crazy setting and I love it!

I'm used to 3.5, so when I started playing BG3 and got my spells, I couldn't have protection from evil and shield going at the same time and all the various good spells for protection. Then when I gained a level and there was another spell I could use for Light or something, it was a concentrate spell too. I'm like, what are spellcasters good for if they can only have one spell going at a time. I haven't gotten over that and it's been sitting in there gathering dust. Seems like you need to just roll something that doesn't use spells. Then there was the horrendous character creation screen where you had to decipher hairstyles. I tried using the random generator and the models were so horrendous I almost threw up. To get a character model to look good, you have to REALLY work at it.

@@stanleymyrick4068 Each to their own and 5e certainly has it’s limitations. For instance, I don't like unlimited cantrips, I prefer them as the 0 level spells that have limited use and have to prepared like older editions. But trust me, spell casters are gods in 5e. Yes, you can only have one concentration spell up at a time but the spell combinations, AOE, crowd control and versatility of options makes them incredibly powerful. And if you multi class, like many do, you can cast multiple spells per turn (action surge) making them broken in the amount of damage they can put out. Again not trying to discount your opinion on 5e, b/c I like to homebrew my 5e games with some 3.5 mechanics (particularly cantrips) but if you give it some time it’s really fun. You also need to play the game in co-op. Way more fun that way 😊

@@DarthAxolotl Maybe. Doesn't seem like it's something I'd like in a fantasy where I have to choose to have a light or protection from evil spell up. But that is on the DnD 5 side of it. The computer game is the other side.
