I had a paper route as a young teen back in the mid-70s, lots of elderly customers in beautiful old, beachfront homes. Once a week I’d have to collect the money, $3.50 a week. Most of them paid every week, which meant waiting at the door while Mrs. Smith dug through her purse and often, digging change from a jar, can, cigar box etc. I had coffee cans full of buffalo nickels, wheat backs, “Indian Head” pennies. Mercury dimes.. I had the latest hardcover collector book and then it was lost in a hurricane. I could hear silver a block away. Still can!

I recently for a whole year paid by cash for many many purchases and have no change. If it was $4.01 I asked for 99cents back. I didn't look at any of the change I got except obvious stand outs. Well I ended up with a small bucket full and spent 2 evenings going thru it. I was shocked at what I found was still in circulation. Only one silver dime, but buffalo nickels, Indian cents and wheat pennies. Amazing to think some of those coins have been traveling the Country for 100+ years. Thanks for showing us peoples VALUABLE pocket change from 200 years ago.

We have this in common. My dad had a coin shop in about 1966-67 and people would bring in jars, pill bottles, cigar boxes, cloth tobacco bags, etc with an assortment of coins, tokens, medals, metal coat buttons, coin jewelry, ... By the time I was 9 I was trusted to do the initial sorting. I still get a kick out of going through the nearly worthless junk hoping to find something interesting.

Thanks for sharing Daniel ! This is great. I'm not sure if it was my Mom or me interested in collecting. She didn't have books and such to fill, so maybe it was me. I do remember setting at the kitchen table going through a few rolls of pennies with her after Dad went and got them from the bank in our small town. Brings back memories I cherish. That half cent looks like maybe a 1826 or 8. Those are some nice Civil War tokens. Taking me awhile to get into those but I am ! Hope you and the show did good. I'll await that video 😁

I've gone through a few 'collections' like that. My Mom ran the snack stand at our Little League in the early sixties. I got to go through $600 or $700 of change every week. Only wish I could have kept every Walker half I came across or the Standing Liberty quarters! (I would have to replace with money from my allowance.) My wife's grandparents had a box or two, one had every date of 2 cent pieces (there were two 1872's!) but no small motto. Grandpa got paid in 1932 with $7.53 of Flying Eagle Cents. They would occasionally give one to a friend but there still is over 740 of these.

@@CoinHELPu I watch all your videos, You’re literally the only one I trust and I appreciate your honesty so much & that’s why I asked you because I would never want to sell anyone anything without knowing but I was just hoping I made a new discovery Lol 😁But my parents are both 80 years old & retired & they have to sell their house because they’re running out of money because of the economy & my Dad’s been collecting coins since he was young & I must have a million plus pennies from the wheat all the way to 1979 and Canadian coins just as old that my dad gave me to research & I haven’t even started on his silver coins, proof sets & uncirculated coins & I want to help them but I’m just so confused Lol because I never even knew that he had been collecting coins since before I was born & he has so many excellent condition red pennies and a lot of them would be considered MS69 grade because I know they have to be untouched for an MS70 grade and there’s so many error pennies out there and he definitely has them but I’ll just give you one example, Ok a little over a month ago my dad gave me 2 boxes filled with rolls of pennies and the boxes hadn’t been open since 1979 Lol and I just really wanted your help and I even showed some of your videos to my dad & I told him that you were the only one I trusted on here and he asked me if you would help & I said I’m sure he would but not for free because that’s a lot of work but I took pictures of some of his other pennies & I tried comparing them on EBay like you said but there’s just so many people that want to scam you & I know from watching your videos that a regular 1943 steel wheat penny without a mint mark isn’t worth $1,500 & that’s on EBay & some people are charging more than that & my dad gave me his steel wheat Penny last week to research it and then yesterday he gave me 2 really old blue collector folder books for wheat pennies that he’s had since he was a kid & I’m praying that you can help me, You & my dad would definitely make a pretty penny 😁 And I really don’t want my parents to run out of money & that’s why they’re selling their house because they only have 2 months left to live on and they’re so scared & I’m trying so hard but at the same I’m so confused but Thankyou so much for all of your videos and for being you and replying back to me, You’re definitely a one in a million guy ❤️

Yeah I'm the same. I always needed objects to entertain me because I didn't have much social aspect to my childhood. I loved the Kane County Flea Market, hunting for antiques and coins. Going out bottle digging. Collecting die cast farm tractors. Hunting for glass insulators. Stuff kids did in like the '50s or '60s😂 I was born in '99 and I remember having a Wii as a kid (age 8 I think) but I wasn't on that thing all the time. As to your "storage" containers, in the 60s and 70s my parents were on the save silver kick and their depository was a nice fat piggy bank they kept in the freezer (? never asked why). It was about the size of a quart jar with slot in top, plug in bottom. Good times.

I'm the same way with stuff like this. It's just too fun to go through. Everything is a suprise. I'm always bidding on the old copper lots in little boxes/bags at the club. "There's gotta be one in there worth something" is exactly the mentality I have. Even if it's only worth something to me. There's always a couple goodies, but you always get holed stuff or severely damaged as well. Usually on your favourite coin in the lot. Lol Anyways, thanks for sharing. I think I had more fun than you did with this one! 😁

Your story reminds me of a "collection" of coins that I have. Foreign coins. I have them all in a single jar and I pour them out every once in a while and I LOVE when I find an addition for the jar. One foreign coin that I always set aside are CURRENT coins from Mexico. I wait until there is a pile of them then take them to my local Salvation Army. Why there? I live in California and they can easily transfer them to the Salvation Army in Mexico. It helps.

That's how I got interested in coin collecting. I had a baby jar of Lincolns I pulled out of change when I was a kid. Pulling red Lincoln wheats from the 40s and 50s was fairly common. I even found several 1919-Ps in EF-AU. I was always looking for the keys without success, but I found a 1910-S and a 1915-S. In grade school I got jealous when he got a 1909-S Lincoln in change, although I didn't know if it had the VDB on the reverse.
