What Time Was Jesus Crucified?

Mark 15:25 says Jesus was crucified about 9am. John 19:14 says Jesus was still in front of Pilate at about noon? What gives? Is this just an error in your Bible? Does an apostle John just have a hard time remembering the most important event in all of human history?

I've poured over the study of the times around the resurrection of Christ as well. So much disputation over that, relative to the contemporary "Easter" of course. Also I have found the time in which those many saints who arose from their graves following Jesus' resurrection to be preached very incorrectly. No preacher ever goes in a good direction ignoring the KJV text, the plain words on the plain pages, speaking very plainly.

I'm a little confused. The two pictures of the time line look exactly alike, the jewish "clock" looks identical to the Roman "clock" the sixes are placed in the same spots?. Please clarify, thanks. Great teaching by the way.

I drew it that way to show that night/morning come regardless of where you're counting from, but then put the start point of the day at the top at 12 to show where the hours started being counted from. Looking back, I probably could have come up w/ something better to illustrate.

This was a great study...but left me wondering why John would use a Roman time keeping method while his peers all used the Jewish clock.....well, John wrote all his books later in life and later than Matthew, Mark and Luke. John wrote them after the destruction of Israel; he wrote them in a strictly Roman run society and thus used the time keeping reference understood in society when he actually wrote the books....thus the statements of this bible study become even more clear. Thank you for the question and answer. It was a truly good study.

Mark 6:2-3 KJV There may be Jewish tradition which would shed more light on whether the sons of fathers in the 1st century took on the occupation of the father. Nevertheless, carpentry wasn't a lucrative business in those days. It was hard work, meager and modest. Jesus was born into obscurity, relative poverty, and very humble conditions; the exact opposite of what the world of those days expected a KING to be born into.

In speaking about the portrayal of Jesus in movies, have you seen the most recent? It's a series called "The Chosen" & is being filmed by an independent Christian producer/director/writers! Season 1 is out & available for free. They're working on Season 2 now. IT IS AMAZING! 💕 Jesus & his Desciples and friends seem SO REAL! No skrawny, white, blue eyed Jesus. In fact, he's not that great looking except you just want to be around him (the actor is also a Christian). And the kids! His relationship with those kids is great! I cannot recommend this show highly enough! No Hollywood involved at all. Independent fund raising for the costs of the production. Please review it! You will not be sorry you did! 💖

That is a pretty good explanation of that, however by rightly dividing it is generally taught that John was a Jew and ministered to the Jews ONLY, So if that’s the case why would johns accounts on certain events that day line up with the others, then at this instance change to Roman time and minister to the same Jews? That seems odd? I mean seems like you’d keep talking to the Jews in a way they would clearly understand which would be their clock... Just a thought😊

I didn't say that John's account changes from Roman time to Jewish time. I said that Roman time seems to work better for the whole book of John. As far as "why" - my flux capacitor is broken so I can't go back in time and ask - but John is quite different from the synoptic gospels in several ways. (Jn 20:30-31)

Oh I agree with you, your thought About how to make the times line up seems to be about the only way it could be... I’m just saying, for something to think about wonder why a minister of the circumcision would be teaching in Roman time frames? Just kinda makes you wonder about that one, especially when the rest of them were teaching in Jewish time... Or maybe were just missing something in our understanding.... but any case great teaching I enjoy listening to ya keep up the good work.... It’s important!!! 😊
