I know the feeling Laura. Every year I’m flabbergasted that my idea hasn’t hit the market. It’s likely that both our ideas have crossed the minds of others but like us have procrastinated or possibly they lost hope. On the other end though, I’ve also watched many, dozens of my other ideas eventually being sold long after my initial thought. So keep in mind that unlike a race on a track, we can’t see where the competition is or even if there is any.

You don’t need a Patent to Licensing ideas.95% of every product idea we see that get licensed there’s no patent. In most situations it’s not required. Hard to stop the knock offs. And each product has a very short lifespan. So don’t worry about the Patent, file a provisional patent application. Thanks for watching!

Make sure to look into Provisional Patent which gives you 12 months to file a non-provisional patent AND you also get to use "Patent Pending" on your product. Check to see if you qualify as a Small Entity which cuts the patent fees by 50%.

I thought of wireless headphones and I thought of the dryer bar laundry freshener and a couple of other things. it never fails when I think of a brilliant ideal someone always come out with it within 1-5yrs later! I am afraid someone is going to make my ideal an reality and it’s huge! And I jus thought of it today! I have several other amazing ideals in my notebook and it baffles me that it’s not out already! I myself had an ideal stolen from me by trusting a company online and a very similar thing happened to my husband when he was only 20yrs old so be careful on who you trust because these companies prey on people like us! Inventions just popping in my head every since a I was a kid!

I think the honest reason holding me back from sharing an idea with industry experts is just worrying about them stealing the idea. In the end I rather not see the invention come to fruition than have an idea stolen and watching someone else get filthy rich off of it.. that's a level of jealousy I couldn't live with.

Dear Stephen Key I think USA should consider the Innovation Patent system of Australia which is less costly and offers shorter period of protection for inventions that are improvements or is advantageous but deemed not non-obvious enough. These are cheaper. The expensive patent system should be reserved to pharma, medical related industries that are as lucrative as cocaine sale. Things like software, apps, electronics, AI, Fintech innovations are such examples.

@@stephenkey3137 my question is that I received a "mutual" NDA to sign it off from company "A" before I disclose my idea, however, if I sign and they sign their part and they disaprove later to lisence my idea, I will not be able to pitch it to other companies as I had already signed an NDA with company "A" to not disclose my idea info !! any answer on that? remember it is "mutual". Thanks

First of all most companies will not sign your NDA. And they will not sign and NDA without first having an idea of what your product idea is. And when you sign a mutual NDA it does not prohibit you from sharing your information. But you cannot share their confidential information. I hope this helps!

Hi Stephen I bought your book, "Sell Your Ideas With Or Without A Patent", it arrived yesterday. I wonder if you have ever considered putting it on tape for dyslexic people or blind people? There must be a great number of these individuals who could benefit from your books. I keep telling the Scottish government that not assisting lone inventors is ignoring an 'asset'. I hate being a "lost asset".

@@Primer595 I can empathize. I've independently invented the unifying physics theory physicists say they want, yet when I offer to sell it to them, guaranteed, they say something like, "That's not the way it's done...", which is currently why they still don't have a unifying physics theory.

@@PaulMarostica What baffles me is that they are not even curious! I came up with a hydrostatic electricity device for use in flat calm lakes, and was told by the university that ,even if my idea worked, they would not be able to fund any research, as another inventor had said he had a solution that they spent thirteen months of time and money on researching and it had not worked! OK , but "even if it worked!" are they kidding? I have this vision of some guy presenting an "elixir of life" to a panel of sceptics who say we are not interested. The inventor replies, "yes okay, that's what your great, great great grandads said when I showed it to them. I'll try your great great grandkids." Did they communicate where you could try? I bet they did not even offer that concession. You cannot fake intelligence!

@@Primer595 It scares me that they are not even curious. Is it possible that they are curious, but they have suppressed their curiosity because they simply no longer have the money to fund any research? If that is the case, then them not having the funds seems to be the real problem to be solved. I really liked your elixir story. It made me laugh. You would win your bet. No 1 has yet been able to direct me to an organization which will purchase a useful, new theory. Possibly, no such organization exists. And usually, along with telling me, "That's not the way it's done...", they also tell me I should publish my theory for free, and if it becomes popular, maybe some 1 will offer me a job as a physics theorist. I tell them I'm retirement age and I'm not looking for a job. I'm looking to be paid for my invention.
