Been there, done that, got the t-shirt - it was my supervisor, and my mate who also worked there, who not only gaslit me, they straight up bullied me. It got real bad until after I found a video that gave me some sage advice, so I spoke to the site manager, and asked for a transfer to a different site. And upon that happening, my friend tried to convince me that I was "making a big mistake", but I was intent on my decision. And they still bullied me, until I left, but my mate left too, and we haven't spoken in like almost 3 years. Good riddance, I say....

I had a gaslighting lead with unfortunately an absentee supervisor. I was asked to help the graveyard shift and when I accepted my lead comes up to me all friendly saying "no one should have to do overtime." I agree no one should HAVE to do overtime but I wanted to. Of course the graveyard lead was very appreciative and gave me written praise for helping out. She also overheard my interactions with a customer who was praising me and encouraged him to put it in writing. It must've just inflamed my actual lead because I got inundated with harassment. Everything from being ostracized, to being corrected loudly in public, to having vital information necessary to perform my job correctly kept from me. I left that job. Im sure they are still having a revolving door of employees coming and going, which is insane to me because at what point does a company investigate why theres a revolving door??

What I don't get is how do they become managers? Why don't more companies out these people? You would reprimand an employee if they did something abusive.

the people who promote them are the same...

I have observed a few things. 1) They kiss all the right asses. All the toxic bosses I know are SUPER nice and helpful to people in power that can promote them or recommend them. Think "adult teacher's pets." So they perform their "leadership" skills in front of the people who have the power and they backstab, disparage, berate, and throw everyone else under the bus to uplift themselves. For some crazy reason, the people at the top don't see or notice this. Probably because the people at the top got to the top the same way themselves. 2) They get promoted because they are good at their jobs technically and knowledgeably, but are not good people managers, problem solvers, or delegators. I probably see this the most. Either way, company issues are always a top down issue so if the manager suck, the leadership at the very top sucks as well. Bird of a feather, flock together.

I got a promotion and during the training phase the manager only talk to me to tell me I'm doing everything wrong. Then she demoted me, then gave me another promotion and kept attacking me when I couldn't remember stuff or she would give me half the information I needed to do my job and say "I showed you how to do that" when she didn't. I was supposed to get six months of training but only got three but when she wrote me up she said I got six months. I told a female supervisor she was being rude and micromanaging my every move and she needed to back off and my store manager sent me home. The next day my fellow employees confronted the store manager about it she neither apologized nor reprimanded the female employee.

It’s ridiculous and eats up time that could be better put to use. This is why I prefer working for men. I’ve never experienced this kind of BS with a male boss, but women are a whole different ballgame. I only ever had two good female bosses who weren’t manipulative, catty, and jealous. Interestingly enough, they came from traditional values with strong male leadership in their household.

@@JewelBlueIbanez As a woman, I hate to admit this but it so true, I 100% prefer to work for men. For a long time, I felt so bad for wanting to discriminate against female bosses because I am a woman myself and I should want to support other professional women but oh my goodness, I can not stand female bosses, especially if they are white women. I don't know what it is but women seem to nitpick and micromanage to death!! When I work for men, I do my job and they are just happy its getting done. They may give some critical feedback and suggestions here and there but overall, I feel like I'm able to independently work and they are so grateful for the work that I produce. When I work for women, it is the total opposite. They find every little detail to complain about. Notice every little mishap and turn it into a performance issue, hyperfocus on things that are not important, and jump to crazy conclusions about what they think I mean. I truly believe that this is uniquely a women's issue. I am not that kind of woman myself because I have a pretty laid back approach to a lot of issues so I'm definitely a more relaxed manager like most men are. I just click better with men in the workplace. I have seen a few male narcissists who were true terrorist but besides that, most of them are great! Also, I notice with males, if you get aggressive back with them, they usually back down and respect you more. Whenever I had a male boss where we were having issues, the second I stood up to him the drama stopped. Its the opposite with women though. When you stand up to them, the issue gets escalated. I will never work for another white woman ever again in my life!

My problem is is that it's the store owner himself that has been gaslighting me and I have probably almost no proof. I'm getting ready to have my interview for unemployment and I have a feeling they're not gonna give it to me. I love my job there but I was ready to kill myself I was so sick of it. he even got physical with me sometimes as in bumping into me or strong shouldering me out of the way if I was in his way. Sending me out to the garage to get something and when I come back he would say no he said the other thing when I could have swore he said what I had brought in. he did that to the point where I wanted to start recording what he said so I could prove to him that he didn't say that. As a good employee I often worked six days a week when needed I would get back from my one day off and he would ask me how my day off was and every now and then I would tell him a quick short story or something that happened and as I'm talking to him and he's not paying attention to me. then in middle sentence he would just start conversing with someone else as if I was never even standing there. this almost put me in a rage. I would just walk away

Hey ReShaun, I worked for a Malignant narcissist G.M.for 8 years in a Fortune 500. Corp. thought he walked on water as did HR. He blocked every door making sure his employees had no representation. He ran 94 employees out the door & 1 by suicide which he wore as a badge of honor. He had over 50 complaints,,,,his supervisors had even more & every employee that complained was pushed out. So, I told myself I'll take it outside the company. First, I started keeping a daily journal. Then, got a spy camera, which was huge as that totally flipped the dynamic for me...giving me the confidence. With that, now you have proof to show EEOC or a Lawyer. By the way, state & federal agencies have lawyers on standby & will provide a lawyer for you @ no charge if they feel you have a case.

Because unfortunately, most managers/bosses etc are gaslighters. It's like it's a common requirement for the role. And even if you get promoted to a managerial position, and you were never a gaslighter before, you will become one you will learn from all the other gaslighters in management, so to you it looks like it's a normal thing. I don't think they really realise at first. If they see all the others shouting at the employees etc, then they will think that that is what they are supposed to do. But that's just my opinion, I might be wrong. I have been abused, manipulated, and gaslight by my mother for 34 years. So I'm really used to it and I know a lot about it. Now, unfortunately, I have just found out that my manager has been doing the exact same thing to me. Only realised this today, after being there for 2 months. And that's also the problem- the fact that I am so new at the company, so it's really difficult trying to make a decision of whether I want to leave or not. Also because in my country, it is very difficult to get a job. There is a high unemployment and I am really tired of struggling. So that's why I always allow my gaslighters to control me, because they can support me financially. That is why I am here watching this video. I am trying to get advice from others.

@@charlyb7231 Charly, this is my opinion. First....don't give up or stop being who you are. Because I've been there a few times and you reach a point where you find yourself lying or reinventing who you are. I'm saying do what you have to do but don't give up on yourself. Second, it's all a game. They are all the same little kids playing in a school yard. The school yard never ends. They don't really grow up. The best thing you can do is play the game better than them. Be professional. Treat others with respect. Demonstrate the right way. This makes you a valued employee. Once the company realizes what you are, others will stand behind you. At some point you will reach a level where you can say No More because money isn't everything and you shouldn't compromise to get a job. Instead, the company should feel that they want you or can benefit from your presence. To do that just picture a bunch of snot nosed kids. Show them your best quality. Remaining positive is not supposed be a threat. ....and if they still don't like the best person you are or can be, then that says something about them NOT about you. If you play the game sometimes you win, sometimes you loose, but if you DON'T play the game, you will NEVER loose. Play your game not there's.
