@@peterbrownwastakenthank you for this lovely KZfaq video Christmas present! Here's my thought: maybe really do the base out of resin with glas in it, and instead of clear resin use silver or some kind of light color that will let the glass shine and not cover it up.

While I don't know if you're going to read this, I wanted to say thank you for this project. This year has been hard on everyone, myself included, and the idea that something broken can come together to form a whole piece is uplifting. While I know I'm not alone in this sentiment, I've lost an important family member this year, and my Mom and I have bonded through watching your videos to help work through the loss. Somehow, you inspired her, a 52 year old Stroke Survivor with use of only one of her arms, and not even the one she used to write with, to start painting again. Thank you, Peter. You've been a bright star in a sea of darkness. Happy Holidays, and cannot wait for the next video.

When you build the lamp, make the base in two halves connected with a line of the resin/broken glass mixture. Then maybe put color changing LED in the base as an added wow factor.

This reminds me of the japanese thing of repairing a broken thing with gold, so that it's flaw becomes a beautiful thing about it. If only a guy had bags of glass, resin, dyes, and some metallic or flake...

Many, many years ago, the John Hancock Building in Boston used to lose windows regularly (they'd just fall out) and I worked in an art gallery that featured sculptures by an artist who used the broken glass to make his art.

I got some glass bits from a car window replacement company. I added it to my resin and made mini planters. They sold insanely fast!!

I really love that! My life shattered when I was 17. I felt like I was in a thousand pieces and slowly put myself back together. Like fixing shattered people, fixing that took a lot of work but it is worth it.

This is the perfect Christmas Gift. Thank you for posting a video and especially this one. The broken tempered glass lamp was an idea had back in college but I couldn't come up with a way to execute it. Resin wasn't as common a craft medium as it is now. This more or less fulfilled a dream.

I've had a lamp for over 20 years, and for most of that time, I've wanted a broken glass globe for it. I've looked and looked for one, yet before today, I've never seen such a thing. Now that I know they are possible, I wished that I were crafty enough to build one.

Look for a KZfaq video or Google instructions. Then just try. The worse that can happen is you might glue yourself to something. I haven't glued anything to myself yet. The cat definitely but not myself. Painted her too.

Love the idea that things can be broken and then made more beautiful through repair. Reminds me of the Japanese Kintsugi practice, I know I'd love to see you try that with resin instead of gold for a more economical fix 😂

The silicone molding material looks very much similar in colour and consistency to the artificial water product I tend to use for ship models sometimes - I just call that "blue Nutella".

Your patience just amazes me, painstakingly placing hundreds of tiny pieces of glass, stone, or whatever, depending on the project (glass, in this case). Your patience, and willingness to try new, different and difficult things always pays off in the end though. This turned out beautifully. Can't wait to see the lamp that goes with this.
