Frixion pens are not advisable for use on fabric- and that’s from the manufacturers themselves (Pilot). You can get “ghost lines” which reappear with cooler temperatures, as the chemicals in the ink stay in the fabric after you iron away the colour. And it doesn’t wash out (& your dryer can ‘bake in’ those lines). Just a friendly warning. Chalk is good, hera marker fold lines are best.
Holy Moly, Miss Myra! I blink, and the next thing I know, you are on KZfaq! xoxo

Watch out with friction markers- on light fabric all your lines will come back when cold I’ve heard. Great video

Love this option of gluing the hexies right on the fabric! Would Aileen’s glue be too thick for that?

If you use Hexiform Hexagons from UK it stays and is washable - no need to remove it. They come in various pre cut sizes and shapes or a sheet which you can use in your Sizzix or Cricut etc It is a game changer !

Doesn’t that make your hexies extremely stiff? Depends on the project, but I usually want my fabric projects to remain soft.

Could you put that small white hexie on the material then, Your paper hexie on then baste it shut and still be able to get the paper out????

Watched your video today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I saw a quilt at a quilt show years ago that had over 10,000 hexies in it. I thought "I am going to make that." Needless to say it never happened but I do have lots of hexies that need a home. I am going to try your pillow and those bags were too cute.

I want to make a table runner like this, but I am also concerned about the edges after being washed. I thought of securing the back of the hexie with some vilene as I need the item to last.
@njame2137 Жыл бұрын
That sounds a good idea - thanks

Do they stay secured around the edges after washing or is this finishing quilting (x's through the centers of the hexies) mostly for items you don't plan on washing? (Love the look!)

I have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer: 1) Have you washed your finished project to answer previous questions, whether the hexies hold up after laundering them? 2) Am I overlooking the links to the products that you mentioned in this video? Maybe you have since deleted the links? Nice ideas and tips, by the way. Thank you!

Hi This is the first time iI see you Have a question Do you sew the hexies to the fabric ? I mean With festón Or Zig zag before you quilt It?
@megm0lly2 жыл бұрын
I glue them on the corners with applique glue and then as you quilt it, it stitches the hexies down.
@janettepack71292 жыл бұрын
You actually glue the hexie on and then top stitch it to the quilt sandwich.

When do you sew. What if your hand stitching instead of machine
@janettepack71292 жыл бұрын
After you hand sew your hexies, you will glue them on and machine sew them to the background. Such a cool method!

I don't see any reason why we wouldn't be able to. I am working on a dolls Q. I have six flowers to attach. I think I'll hand baste it on the grid lines made with the Hera marker. I am doing this in an historical setting and we wouldn't have had glue. I imagine one would have to be very careful with your stitch length. I made one inch hexies with Roses on a white bkg. I'll use a very dark green skirt weight fabric in place of your white. I am not sure if it is necessary to use wadding and a backing. I'd turn over the edge with a small hem stitch or I could do a pillowcase (using the rose fab) and then turn an do a running stitch to finish it off. You have inspired me. Yes, the last homely house do come and sit on the line green sofa with my sister and I along with many other friends who stitch and love colour. Here in AB CAN @76.

Thank you for your video. When you quilted the bag using a diagonal stitch through the hexagon, do you then go. Ack and hand stitch the outside edges of each hexagon? Or is it left open? I’m thinking of making a bed quilt with this design and wanted to know how you finish the hexagons. TIA
@simplestitchesfabricshop52173 жыл бұрын
I don't go back and stitch them down, it is left "open" but it isn't going anywhere 😆 I would suggest giving it a try on a small piece before tackling a bed quilt. That would be AMAZING!

Inalso.find if you give the hexies a good press BEFORE removing the papers, they keep their shape even better. And if I plan to stich some together in a flower, diamond, groups of fours, threes, even 2s, or whatever, I will wait till that is put together, before I take ANY papers. out.
