@@LevelUpRN Thank you so much! I felt like the interview went very well; I'm crossing my fingers. I applied for La Jolla but I definitely considered Encinitas. Do you precept? I might have to change my preference! 😂

So good and helpful! I graduated w my ASN in May 2019, and still haven't passed NCLEX yet. 2020 def slowed me down! However, I'm preparing now to retake NCLEX again and hope to pass it this time! 👏

Granddaughter just got hired mother/baby unit as a residency at Houston Methodist Hospital 13 miles from her home. Short commute! She graduates ABSN COURSE 18 December. Great tip about taking cookies to her preceptor.

I'll be 55 when I graduate so actually a little worried I'll look like an experienced yet incompetent nurse... anyone got advice about that? Thank you in anticipation.

Hi there! Meris here :) The number one thing is going to be communication! When you are a new grad, you'll be placed with a preceptor (and you may also be joining a residency or fellowship program) who will help you learn how to work as a nurse in that facility and that unit, and help you learn all the specific things you need to know for your specialty. The most important thing to do is to speak up! If you feel uncertain or unfamiliar with something, say so! But if you don't ask questions or express your concerns, your preceptor will assume you're feeling fine and that you're fully competent. The good news is that there are new grads of all ages in nursing at all times! We see young new grads in their early 20s (who are believed to be "too young to be a nurse" by many patients, even if they're incredibly experienced, and we have new grads in their 60s! So you are not the first and you will not be the last to join this amazing profession later in life :) Start your career with confidence that there will be a whole cadre of more experienced nurses who will have your back--but they only know what you don't know if you're willing to share that with them. You're going to do so great, and I can't wait to have you join this incredible field!

Hi Leigh! I'm 49 and considering going back to school for nursing! I would likely be about 55 when I graduate, too. Really scary to consider doing this. Wishing you all the best!! 🤗💖💖💖

@@LaSorciereFeuillue Thanks so much for the encouragement, Leigh!! I am still not sure and think I might be crazy for thinking about doing this. We don't "need" the money and I have a pretty stress-free life, so why do I want to upset the apple cart?! 😄😄😄 Going to do some deep soul searching to make sure it's the path I want to take. How did you decide to pursue nursing? Wish you all the best!! 🤗💖💖💖

@Kittywitty Papercraft it's a childhood dream I didn't think I could succeed at til now. I enjoy making scared people feel safe and have intense respect for germs. Am fascinated by the human body and mind, and have been an Early Childhood Educator and Yoga Instructor for 30 ys so know my understanding of people & self care skills will help me. On two Placements I've easily defused conflict surrounding drunk middle aged men & young, female nurses and helped patients who were either embarrassed or more worried about their spouse's coping mechanisms. I'm also over naughty 3 yos; what can I say; I have the patience of a saint & a tonne of behavioural knowledge and skills but need a change of scenery. I know most adults are 3 yos too, yet feel excited and challenged by a different context where I know new things and can bring a fresh perspective. Let me know when you take the plunge!!
