That all looked delicious and I like the positive staff too. I was at a small Izakaya in Akihabara People from my temp job brought me there. It was mostly known for its sake choices. The food was all on sticks and delicious. There were some Girls at the back table (the only table) they were playing some acoustic instruments. As they were leaving they bought all of us a big bottle of expensive Sake and said thanks for not calling the press/paparazzi. It turns out they were the band Aldious!

I love the DIY opportunities at this Izakaya! All the food looked great. The potato salad with kebab topping was interesting. The karaage was _so_ crunchy. And, the melon pudding had my mouth watering. Thanks for pointing us toward great local eateries, Shinichi and Satoshi. I'd love to see more of what this yokocho has to offer!

I never seen an izakaya were you make the tamago yaki yourself. Potato salad with kebab sounds delicous! And such a great location! I came through otsuka with the train every day as a student but never really got off there. I've been on the sakura tram though, it's a fun ride. Definitely recommend that. We always order edamame and some cabbage at an izakaya, and usually some chickensticks, not just with thighmeat but we like grilled kawa (chickenskin) and also the tsunagimo (gizzard) if it is with sauce. And gyutan if they have it. The rest is whatever is on the menu and what we feel like eating. I never get any carbs because i'm so full already but my hysband usually gets a bowl of rice.

@BloodravenD

Gyoza is a mixture of ground meat, some veggies, in a dough wrap that're steamed or fried. You would have to ask the specific place you are going to if they offer different meat in them. I would just eat whatever they offer though, to really enjoy the izakaya experience.

In my American hometown, you are expected to eat fried chicken with your hands. The view is that eating fried chicken is supposed to be a messy, greasy experience. People who use utensils are considered to be timid, cowardly people who are overly concerned about staying clean.
@swetuski
@swetuski 11 ай бұрын
Thats almost everywhere in America, unless you get the ‘bone out’ verity sometimes. But yeah in America we often eat chicken wings with our hands, though its fun but always best to have a wet napkin nearby for easy clean up.
@eatlikealocal
@eatlikealocal 11 ай бұрын
Karaage (Japanese-style fried Chicken) developed separately from American fried Chicken, and has its own traditions. It is made with bite sized pieces of Chicken thigh meat, designed to be eaten with chopsticks. There are multiple examples of foods which are eaten a particular way in different counties. Notably Pizza - while it may be associated as a handheld food - In Italy, Pizza is commonly consumed utilizing a knife and a fork.
@gwillis01
@gwillis01 11 ай бұрын
@@eatlikealocal I agree the way to eat chicken will vary by country depending on what tools people usually use to eat. When using chopsticks, it is of course easier to pick up small strips or little pieces of chicken.

Why is it that fried chicken in Japan seems to be better cooked and more flavorful than in the states .Our chicken never is that type that you want to go back and get more.Basically the chicken "sucks". Ha ha😁
