Clairefontaine Pastelmat has become my favorite paper for soft pastels, but because it is textured, if I am doing something realistic like an animal or person, I do not like to draw directly onto the Pastelmat's surface. Erasers can damage the texture of the paper, so I get my drawing laid out on another paper first and then transfer it to my Pastelmat. The problem with transfer papers, though, is that often the marks they make are slick and soft pastels won't cover them. In this video, I experiment with various transfer papers to see which one is best for transferring a design onto Pastelmat without leaving a residue that my pastels can't cover.
Also, there's a bit of a clip of me making a pastel piece of my sweet dog Pocket for last year's holiday card. :) Hope you enjoy!
