What could the color of your urine tell you about what’s going on inside of your body? Find out.

In this video, we’re going to talk about urine color and what different urine colors could indicate. Typically, urine should be a straw yellow color.
Dark urine
Dark urine could mean that the urine is too concentrated. This could indicate that you need to drink more water.
Clear urine
This could mean it’s too diluted, which could mean you’re consuming too much water. You could actually be diluting your electrolytes, weakening the heart.
Bright yellow urine
This could happen after consuming too many synthetic B vitamins.
Red urine
Dark red could indicate blood in the urine.
Dark orange or brown urine
This could point to a liver issue. Consuming more vegetables may help.
Pink urine
This could happen from eating beets or from a small amount of blood in the urine. Potassium citrate may help.
Green urine
This could happen from eating asparagus.
Foamy urine
This could mean there is too much protein in the urine. This could happen from consuming too much protein, or you may need to support your kidneys.

That's most likely a UTI (urinary tract infection); especially if there's burning. Make sure to go to the Dr. That could lead to kidney failure if u leave it untreated for too long. Wish u the best

@@cincin4515 Sometimes we live with conditions which don't affect us very much - but if taken care off -gives a new high (maybe physically , mentally etc )....mine has also been very clear for a long time but apparently Dr said I needed to eat more protein ....Now I had been feeling all ok ,but since I started on more protein - I have better energy throughout the day .....I am not saying that we should listen to everything on KZfaq or Tv or whatever ....but to know that -we don't know everything-it helps

I was told I had a fatty liver (I do not drink) I thought I was stuck with it forever. Good to know, I’m here because I know someone who says theirs is “black” (and I’ve no intention of verifying the precise color personally)...and has pancreatic issues. I was figuring it had to do with the poor condition of it, and blood and dehydration, but it sounds like a stone or more may also be involved.

that is a kind of pissy attitude to take ... but then adding food colouring to your milk does make for some interesting colour exits ... was toilet training a friends kid and added lots of yellow to their milk ... when they peed it was yellow no worry when they pooped it was ... BRIGHT yellow ... man was he excited ... he got his reward after too ... he got to have some candy for a job well done ... figured if it wasnt brown he would show it off in amazement ... and it worked ;)

This is the first time I heard foamy urine explained. That’s so good to know as I am aware too much protein is not good for the joints in the long run - but I’m also focusing on protein content in my diet as I’m losing weight.

Foamy urine to the point where it looks like egg whites is a very strong sign of kidney issues. If it's heavy foam you need a blood test. Could be the first stage of renal failure

Remember that when you urinate you're urinating into a toilet bowl that's full of water and is greatly diluting your urine to a much lighter color than it actually is. Must take that into consideration when determining color.

Yes, you were stripping yourself of electrolytes and on your way to hyponatremia, which can be deadly. Good thing you stopped that. Too many people think a lot of water is good, and those who give that advice to “drink as much water as you can” are horribly irresponsible and terribly misinformed. It dilutes the electrolytes that keep your heart beating, and will make a person more anxious, too, among other things. Drink when you’re thirsty, and drink a little more (like a glass or so) after a workout or on a day when you’ve been outside in the heat. In other words, replace your sweat...and not just with water, but with electrolytes, too. 😊

Red urine can also be caused by high levels of Astaxanthin, usually over 24mg worth. Another point I want to make is that bright yellow urine can also be from eating liver, which has it happens is a natural source of B vitamins. The actual B vitamin which causes the bright yellow is Riboflavin.

Thank you Eric - Excellent video with great info. I had a lot of blood in my urine and found that I had an infection in the urinal tract. I have a prostate problem, so was not passing urine as much as I should have. I had to go through a course of anti-biotics which cleared the problem. I have since increased my water intake and not had a repeat of the issue, thank goodness! If you have a urinary problem, look to Stinging nettle root tablets. These are capsules with s-nettle root extract. Simply saved me I am sure!

There is nothing worse than being obliged to visit a certain pointed specialist, who has less of an idea of what the issue is than you do. Or they have a completely biased opinion because of the Drs notes, instead of diagnosing correctly, after all,they are supposed to be he specialist and there they are mimicking the easy option of skimming the notes and minimising their care about your health. Despicable Doctors seem to find Government appointments thinking it a dolt. I sympathise, with your needs DonBerry. How they passed out so lacking in knowledge for their position defined by them having to help, leads me to the only thought, they applied for the job, have book smarts but can’t apply it or the Government isn’t paying enough for decent Drs. Your only hope is to educate and get a position as her advisor. 4 years testing me to find it was now stage 4Cancer that must have taken, oh wait...four years to get to that stage. Did they listen or read notes? I read the MRI scans and found that golf ball and all of the other bits. Despicable.

I had similar stories with other doctors. They just look it up and then do what is written there.

my case is an overdose of antibiotics. I went through acute kidney failure, which I did not treat for fear of what was happening. later I went to the doctors, but they sent me back and did not treat me. today I urinate so little(500-700ml - the amount is for the whole day and is released in small portions of about 200ml. ) that it shows a bad state of my body "I'm gradually gaining weight from water retention, I somehow manage to get within the norms of creatinine levels, but they are at the limit. I eat little because I feel bloated and it's heavy. My stomach is growing, I can't lose weight. I undergo diets that are good for the kidneys and the liver. In addition, I also have a hepatitis fatty liver. my alat is always high (about 70-100). before i managed to control it with diet, since what happened with the kidneys i can't anymore, i try everything for both problems. I also have problems with constipation probably from water retention in my stomach. I watch your videos and try to help myself with something, but it doesn't work. sooner or later I'll get to hemodialysis I'm sure. I am 44 years old. my problem has been since 2018 and since then I have been slowly losing my diuresis and feeling worse and worse .initially, the diagnosis was chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis, which gradually turned into renal failure. I have high uric acid in the urine, for which I take flebuxotat and traces of protein and an elevated cystatin test. thank you doctor for what you are doing for trying to help!

I had the same thing happen to me that Dr. Berg described happen to him when he had blood in his urine. I was working out prior to going to work early in the morning, at 4:00am. I would do 30 minutes of weights then an hour of cardio on the treadmill. I would always go pee prior to my workouts. But, halfway into my run I felt like I had to pee, I didn't want to stop, so I kept going until I was finished. I was sweating a lot, and as I was wiping my face I felt a little pee came out. I went to the bathroom and hand almost all blood come out in my urine. I started to freak out a little too, so I went to the doctor. He mentioned a possible kidney stone passed, tested my urine, then had me get a CT of my abdomen. The CT didn't show anything, normal. The urinalysis showed blood in my urine (of course), but also showed calcium as well. The doctor told me a couple reasons why calcium was in my urine and told me to come back in a month to test my urine again. At the time I was taking a daily multi vitamin and an additional 200 MG of calcium each day. So, I stopped taking the additional calcium, I had my urine checked again after a month, and my urine was normal. Long story short, nothing was wrong with me, and it cost me $1,400.00 for the CT out of my pocket after insurance paid their part.

Just went on an intense 6 mile run in the rain & just peed dark red for the first time ever. Definitely in that freaked out phase. But I feel 100% normal. Def getting it checked. Thanks for the info.

A couple of years ago I had this intense pain in my testicles, I had to walk softly i also had to pee but i was to busy with work. Well I withstood the pain for less than an hour and still hadn't peed, so once I did pee I blood came out and the pain went away with. I've had kidney damage as well from hypertension high blood pressure and alcoholism. I gave up the booze and I'm taking better care of my health and my urine is clearer but always foamy.

A while ago I started eating raw beets and noticed my urine was absolutely red. After some research, I realized that I might be iron deficient. In a few days, with the supplementation, the urine returned to normal.

Drinking water without good electrolytes can make you thirsty, and deplete your body of electrolytes. Core Hydration water worked very good on a 21 day water fast for me.

That is SO great to read! Beer should only be consumed organic, locally brewed, ideally, and certainly not EVERYDAY! They are full of sugar, and alcohol gives men oestrogens, which kills testosrerone and makes you fat...

@@caaarbz I do not need/require/have to drink.. I choose to drink. I do not crave it.. it docent effect my social life nor my work.. I did not pick beer ocer doing something else like hanging oug with family or friends.. When I decibel too stop drinking for a while it had no inpact what so ever. (Family questioned my drinking.. so I told them what I till you now. And to prove it I then and there decibel not too drink for a while). That was 8 months ago. When k have bbeen sober for a year ill start drinking again.

No one talks about fasting ... fasting can turn urine brownish or sand like crystal can come out. Detoxing from intense training can lead to dark urine.

I’m so glad you had access to a doctor the day of… and didn’t have to just hope it goes away like a huge portion of the population.. just take supplements and you’ll be fine… and by “you” I imagine you mean someone who has the best healthcare possible

I have foamy urine sometimes, I went to the doctor a couple of months ago and he tested it in his office there and then for extra protein but he said it was fine. I don't really trust a lot of the doctors tests though. I have a few things wrong with me including candida and prediabetes. Ive had diabetes symptoms for years and the doctors often test me for it but have never diagnosed it.

I urinated a small amount of blood a few times before it was caught that I had RCC (Renal Cell Carcinoma) ... KIDNEY CANCER. The tumor went undetected for years as it grew, and I had no other symptoms nor did I fit any of the high risk categories. Now I'm down to 1 kidney, cancer free, and dealing with stage 3 CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease). I was healthy by all other standards. DO NOT ignore or brush off blood in your urine!

Mine is usually pretty dark and foamy and kinda cloudy at times. Sometimes it's normal though. Hey, my uncle peed blood all day and then it went away so he didn't get it checked. It was actually cancer which ended up killing him about a year later.

I pissed blood several times after tae kwon do training (getting kicked in the kidneys sparring a kickboxer) and the doctor told me 9 times out of 10 a kidney infection will pass before they can analyze it, so that's probably why your uncle wasn't that worried. I was freaking because I was pissing clotted blood(which really hurts) and looks like worms. 3 days later it was all back to normal. Get checked though, like that other poster said.

In the lab, we use the word "clear" to refer to opacity. No color is usually reported as "colorless". Opacity would have been nice to include in this video too.

After eating beef liver, my urine color was bright yellow. When I saw a video about the benefits of eating beef liver my mom and I decided to make a meal with some beef liver and roasted veggies. The video says beef liver is rich in B vitamins. It took around 20 minutes to make it and it tasted amazing.

Dr. Berg, You look like you have lost weight from last yr! Also a request please do a detailed video on Birth control for women due to hormones playing a big part on this not balancing out etc (nightmare on the body, rejecting it). Your recommendations please for the best birth control if on keto diet?. Drs just give you dame pills all day long! What are your thoughts too on copper IUD's too? (Not good i have researched as copper builds up into toxins into the body?) Bone broth made my urine go light in colour.

Be careful with red urine. I had a bladder tumor which was cancerous. No pain, no other warning signs. Doctor put me on antibiotics thinking it was an infection. 6 months later the blood came back and was sent to a urologist that found the tumor. I will have to have checkups the rest of my life because the cancer can return.
