Discover how urine color can be used as an indicator of what’s going on deeper inside your body.
0:00 Introduction: Urine colors explained
0:34 Clear urine
1:14 Normal urine color
1:34 Red urine
2:11 Orange urine
2:42 Blue urine/green urine
3:02 Dark brown urine
3:11 Foamy urine
3:55 Cloudy urine
Today, we’re going to talk about how the color of your urine can tell you what’s going on inside your body. Urine is filtered blood. Nephrons recycle good materials back into the blood and remove toxins and waste through your urine.
If you have clear urine, you’re drinking too much water. Too much water dilutes sodium and makes you dehydrated. Hydration is achieved with the right amount of electrolytes and the right amount of water. Only drink water when thirsty, especially when you’re not working out or sweating.
Normal urine color should be amber, yellow, or straw-colored. The yellow color comes from a pigment in your blood.
Red or pink urine usually signifies blood. This can be caused by a kidney stone, infection, or something more serious. Menstruation can also contaminate the urine, turning it pink. Always seek help from your doctor if you suspect that you have blood in your urine.
Orange urine or fluorescent yellow urine is usually the result of synthetic vitamins, especially B vitamins. It can also be the result of dyes from certain medications. Orange urine can also signify underlying gallbladder or liver issues, but this is not very common.
Blue urine is caused by methylene blue, certain medications, and artificial colors. Sometimes, asparagus can turn your urine green!
Dark brown urine means you’re dehydrated and need more fluids. Very dark brown urine could potentially point toward a liver problem.
If your urine has a normal color but is foamy, your protein consumption may be too high. Foamy urine may also potentially be caused by chronic kidney disease. Foamy urine often occurs in diabetics. If you have foamy urine, try cutting your protein intake to see if it helps.
Cloudy urine usually signifies infection. Most UTIs are caused by E. coli bacteria. Too much sugar in the diet can feed this bacteria.

A few years ago my dad phoned me up panicking about his urine being pink/red. I asked him if he had urgency or pain when going or a higher temperature thinking it could be a UTI. He said no I feel fine, none of that. I asked if his appetite was ok. He said yep fine in fact I ate nearly a whole jar of pickled beetroot earlier on. I literally said “think about it dad”. After a long pause he burst out laughing and said “oh it’s the beetroot”! I said yes dad, cut back on the beetroot and see how you “mend”. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

I figured that out when I was a kid. I would drink the beet juice and the pee was much darker than pink. It was dark red, and too much purple Kool-Aid made for green pee

I always tell people know what exactly what you are taking. Do consistent and regular blood work. And cycle off supplements. Taking preferably every other day or at least breaking every single weekend Friday to Sunday and resuming Monday. Also try to water fast for 36 hours as well during the off weekend

I want to thank Dr. Berg for the tip on adding salt to water. I've struggled with a faster heart rate for years and it was largely due to dehydration. I wasn't holding on to sodium/electrolytes.. Adding a pinch of salt to my water was the key as opposed to guzzling water with no electrolytes. Thank you!

Thank you Dr. Berg. I Love all your videos so much, I am diabetic, I also have kidney disease, medullary sponge kidney , I have had a UTI since September 2023. I see a Urologist, Endocrinologist, Nephrologist , & my OB. But every time I finish my antibiotics the UTI comes back. I was hospitalized in February 2024 and again in April 2024. I got sepsis from the UTI. I thought I was going to die, my blood pressure was extremely high. I experienced head to toe body shaking for 2 days the first time and a day & 1/2 the second hospitalization. I had uncontrollable nausea for days, fever, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, I was extremely hot 🥵, headache, dehydration, and a rash on several parts of my body. Mostly on my face. I really love all your videos that are specific to woman’s health. Any recommendations for a natural way to avoid UTI’s will be greatly appreciated.

Something i think should be clarified, the time of day and your level of activity play an important factor. Your first urination of the morning is going to be the most concentrated but also the best for a sample if you think something is wrong. If you are highly active and water hydrating more than needed, you will have a more dilute urine. Dr. Berg, please try to be specific about the times one should be observing urine.

2 chanels are not necessary because your thumbnails show us what the video is about. Viewers can watch thise videos that interest them. Personally, I like farm videos. Repairing equipment is part of running a farm. I'll probably never restore a tractor, but it's still interesting information. - For example, I've always been at a loss regarding why drive-wheels spin opposite directions when lifted. One of your videos showed how the differential works. It finally clicked for me.

Candida is also a bladder/urine issue, especially in women & diabetics. People are yeast factories and it only take a small amount of sugar or concentrated simple carbs to set off a candida yeast fungal overgrowth process in gut, bladder & respiratory pathway. Anything mold based (cheeses, yeasty foods) or sugar based (milk, fruits, desserts) will feed this process.

Normal and healthy color is clear, and no health issues or missed actions. Lemonade, however, is still healthy a bit but a sign of lacking minerals, taking some drugs, or dehydrating status(most common).

Hi Dr. Berg, nice review, thanks!, but I am interested in knowing about the exact or more precise foaminess of the urine, the bubble-up part... What is the urine-protein test number? How much foam is too much? how to measure it?? and what frequencies of the foaminess?? It might be good to know how to measure the foaminess and levels because every toilet/commode is different in the water content, gets diluted, etc., and may be important to know any given time to observe that the foaminess goes away/disappears, etc.?? How can we reduce the foaminess besides eating less protein?? Any types of protein? Are there any other remedies to lower the foaminess?? Changing the subject, how can we improve and maintain the function of the cerebellum? Any special nutrition??
