The size and the turning circle are huge wins for me. I don't like large cars, but my ID.3 is plenty big enough inside. I still think mine drives really well, its quiet, handles nicely and has enough poke to get me out of trouble in city or countryside traffic.

A used ID.3 1st Edition was and still is our first electric car. It's just right in every respect except one and that is that the wheel rims are stupidly big. I would like to replace the 7.5j x 19 with 7.5j x 17 wheels and the tyres from 50 to 60 profile. Less kerb rash, even more plush ride and of course cheaper tyres at replacement time. There is absolutely nothing else that I would change with the car or wish was different. If our car was somehow taken from us then I would replace it with another ID.3. Assuming not then I expect that we will keep this car for many years.

Nice that you have such a good experience. I have my car in for fixing the UI/computer now for 1,5 months. Good thing - I have had an id.5 as a loaner within the period and also used it for my holiday. The id 5 has no issues. My id 5 is possessed - it randomly turns on things radio, a/c - it also turns the heat all up or down - turns on the cruise control - heated seats and steering wheel - I have started calling it Christine.... I believe the VW FB community would be a good place to share my 'Christine videos'. It is not fun to have a car that has been in for 6 times and is now out of warranty without the problem being fixed. If VW doesn't fix it now, I have no other choice than to scrap the car and sue VW. Nobody else than VW can fix it as it is electronics misbehaving. I don't understand how a big manufacturer can treat their customers like that and that the EU does not ensure that manufacturer liability is uphold.

I have an ID4 and think it's great and I agree with a number of things you listed, The ID light is fantastic, always wanted to be "Knight rider", the driving information screen is perfect and clear, I am not a fan of other cars relying on large central screens, I wear varifocal glasses, so prefer the essential info straight in front of me. The Matrix headlights are excellent, allow you to switch in the software when changing countries and moving from driving on the left to the right. Love the ACC. I cannot agree that there is anything positive in the omission of illumination from the heater controls at the base of the Infotainment screen, how that one ever got signed off is baffling, who ever would have thought people wanted to change the cabin temperature in the dark. Gesture control is useless , and I don't like hiding soft buttons in the navigation screen until your fingers are 20mm away from them. I actually like the 3 button window controls, I don't accidently open the rear windows. Can't see why so many reviewers just had to comment on it. Oh the door mirror adjustment, lacks a click stop. so you have to look at it to know what you are going to change. Overall the car if excellent, 9000 miles covered, drives and handles well with good acceleration and comfort. Great cabin space. Charging speeds are good, I've seen peak of 135kw. The App is generally fine. when they are not changing their back end servers, but in the UK, the App still gets the range wrong as it treats an MPH value as KPH and converts it to MPH in error, how can this take so long to fix. Efficiency is good, just did a 244 mile trip at 4.2 m/kw using from 100% to 20%, no public charging needed , mixed Motorway and 'A' roads, 62 miles range left when I got home (306 total range) 77kwh battery. Shout out for your channel. some great content and enjoyable presentation. Thank you.

ID3 appears to have taken a fair amount of criticism from uk car journalists for its interior quality and software. I have a 77kw Pro S 2023 first generation car and find it brilliant. I can get over 300 miles on a charge and have never had any issue with software. I like the simplicity of the interior and the fact VW has considered the environmental factors. I really don’t understand the criticism it has had. Great channel btw 👍🏻

Reviewers were too harsh on this car initially, which I think had a bit of an impact on its image. It's really quite great, except for a couple of minor annoyances. Sure, the newest car I've owned was built in 2010, but this is by far the best car I've ever had. And that includes any of the rentals and company cars I've had over the years.

I bought an ID3 and have used one for a year and a half. Most comfortable and pleasurable car I've ever used. Love driving it, and it's so smooth. Looks phenomenal in my opinion, has a lot more character and pop than a Tesla. However the infotainment system is AWFUL. I can't stand it. Apple CarPlay disconnects from time to time, and resets. This reduces when I charge my phone with a cable, not via wireless charging. The VW GPS isn't too bad but looks clustered. Also would prefer being able to turn on AC the moment I step in the car, rather than press a number of buttons. Overall I would say a solid 6 out of 10 (4 huge points lost because of the VW system)

What do you mean by turning on AC by number of buttons ? If it's on then it stays on. You don't need to separately turn it on every time. Or did you mean ACC? Just press "Set" at the current speed.

@@ID.SuperFan-tq8xi yes that’s true but this changes everyday based on whether it’s cold outside or just general preference. I just prefer having the option of a physical twist of the knob for AC and temperature which is immediate rather than click the climate button (which doesn’t work immediately unless you move the car or press the start button) and then using the touch screen to adjust. It’s things like this which are fiddly but I’ve got used to it. Having said that I like using the shutters to just stop the AC blowing in your face. Glad they didn’t remove that. Great lights, great turning circle, software is still pretty shonky, dealers are still awful. Fine as a runaround but limited range (58kw 1st Edition), poor routing and so so charging network means I choose the Model 3 every time I need to do a journey. I'll keep it though, might even upgrade the screen in a years time if they offer it at a decent price and it helps with the incredibly annoying start up routine. Everyone loves a moan, that's human nature.

Agreed that VW got a number of things right on their EVs. In fact, they did several things with the eGolf that they need to do on all the ID cars - they need to do a heat pump and a direct heating defroster. They have these, but only as options and only in some markets/models. We *really* need to be able to buy the ID.3 in the US and Canada! The one fix they *should* do is have 5 seat belts with the biggest battery - don't tell me they can't figure out how to do this?!

@ID.SuperFan-tq8xi
@ID.SuperFan-tq8xi 11 ай бұрын
@@NeilBlanchard Only the front seats are heated. I rarely heat the seats nowadays, because the cabin heats up so quickly and for some reason the seats never feel that cold. The heated steering wheel is more important. Not sure what you mean by direct heating windshield defroster (some resistive system?), but not in my trim. Hasn't been a problem.
@NeilBlanchard
@NeilBlanchard 11 ай бұрын
@@ID.SuperFan-tq8xi Heating the windshield directly - but without the lines that are in the rear window defroster - works much more quickly than blowing warm air on it, AND it uses just a few hundred watts rather than 3-6 *thousand* watts. So, if you need to defrost/defog the windshield, we already have the tech needed. It was invented all the way back in the 1970's. With ICE cars, there is so much waste heat, that blowing hot air made sense - but with EVs, we need to change our mindset. Likewise, heating seats is fast and direct at heating our bodies, and it only takes a tiny fraction of the power. My family has been driving EVs for nearly a decade, and not losing any noticeable range in the winter from necessary heating is *far* preferable to even a heat pump; let alone a resistive air heater.

The ID7 will be a big jump. VW evolved well in the right direction, Software package now works, design is cool, efficiency must be improved though and they think to much ICE / traditional in terms of power output, way to low. ICE was very expensive to create high power output - not anymore with an electric power train, I don't get it. All vendors listened and put 400hp + in their cars, good example is Polestar. They started in the back of the pack and they are now very efficient and doubled their power output. VW are you listening????? I hope VW will follow through on this pure EV strategy (not bother making it "feel" like a gas car). After Tesla, they seem the only manufacturer in Europe who can actually deliver EVs within a couple of months - maybe also Polestar/Volvo. If they can keep prices low and work on the vehicle integration like Tesla, so that they have space for a proper front trunk and better HVAC system while they make money on the EVs (they probably do not at the moment) then things look bright for them in Europe.
