Morgan, the shaker you wanted to know the name of is a Boston shaker. The technique for opening one is to squeeze the connection; doing that will break the seal and allow the two parts to be separated. The physics of shaking a cocktail with ice is that the air in the shaker cools and therefore the air pressure in the shaker decreases. This is what forms the seal. By squeezing the connection, you allow air to enter the shaker and equalize the pressure which allows you to more easily open the shaker.
@Christophe_L Жыл бұрын
Yup! Join the two halves at an angle, so that you get one straight line from top to bottom, eg: at one side the walls should be parallel. Keep this side towards you (this is important). To separate, just smack the rim at 90 degrees from this imaginary line.

Your routine popped up in my recommended earlier today and I recognized you from social media but hadn't realized you had a channel nor your aspirations to compete in the USBC. I watched the entire routine and the whole time I was in awe of your fluidity, both in your way of speech and the way you conducted yourself. Very professional and well done !!

Yuzu is so delicious, I don't know if you've tried the Korean-style Yuzu tea you can get as almost like a marmalade consistency in a jar that you just add hot water to? I'm glad it's getting more popular as a flavour, though, it's probably my favourite citrus now.

This was great to watch! The typical shaker you're describing is a Boston shaker. I personally find the class+aluminum ones pretty hard to use too. The one you used is typically called a Cobbler Shaker, and they're totally fine to use too. In both cases the trick I find to dealing with "stuck" shakers is not to twist, but the squeeze! It's a little counter-intuitive, but it really helps break the seal. Anyway, best of luck at WBC!!
@GirishManjunathMusic2 жыл бұрын
Yea squeezing deforms the lip and can help the air release. That breaks the vacuum caused by the chilling and dilutionm

You may have lost a point or two for not fully pressing the button to start your second pull at the same time, I hope the judges were kind and either added points (or didn't take as many away) for the flawless way that you handled the situation. No break in the rhythm of your presentation as you calmly and professionally handled the situation. If they weren't looking for it (and I'm sure they were), they would have missed it entirely.

James Hoffmann was the first coffee channel I subscribed to after trying to figure out my Aeropress. I had no idea he was a WBC or what that meant I just thought he made really solid video's and that's why i subscribed. When I first saw Morgan i thought she was just copying James as you can really see his influence on her mannerisms towards cofffee. Then I saw Morgans USBC routine and I finally realized how crazy those competition are. I subbed thinking that I had it backwards Morgan is the champion and James is the wannabe. Then I learned about the 2007 WBC lol.

I think we both come at it from different perspectives and backgrounds but one thing we both certainly share is a love for coffee and sharing it with others. There’s a wonderful plethora of coffee creators out there and I’m glad you’re able to find enjoyment in many of them!

I started with James' videos and I enjoy them very much. I watched a couple of other coffee channel videos and I didn't find them interesting compared to James. However when I watched one of Morgan's videos it struck a similar but different chord in my coffee brain and I have been watching her videos since then. Just an enjoyable presence to watch. I feel justified in watching her when I watched her win the Barista competition. It wouldn't have mattered how she placed but the fact the person I started watching went on to do as well as she did means I made the right choice in who to watch.

I don’t know if I’m qualified to speak on this but since I do work in the cocktail industry I might suggest if you do chose to get a regular Boston/Parisian shaker the best place to smack it is the tiny gap to the side of the seal if you smack the bigger gap it’s very hard to break the seal. Also it may be wise to incorporate a dry or reverse dry shake because you are using egg white if you want an even foamier feel.

I don't know if I fully agree with the docking of points for not pushing the jelly buttons that you explained perfectly well at 13:42. As a UX Designer, that 100% sounds like a reasonable contested reason to blame it on the manufacturer and not the barista. Did they have a QA group to test it? Jelly buttons is a tactile interaction but was there also no audible notification to let the barista know it was pressed? There's a reason game controllers are the material they are and not jelly. A quality QA group would be able to sus that out immediately if tested in a proper environment that simulated realitic situations.
