Yep I recall reading about the Roman/ Nubian border war and also the extensive trade that went on between Nubia and the Axum Empire with Rome. And the Romans launching several trade Expeditions into West and Central Africa. Including one they went all the way down to Lake Chad where they secured a two horned rhinoceros. So many art and history teachers taught me that the greeks and romans had the most detailed and beautiful statues and art in general but these African statues are just as detailed and beautiful. They deserve to be included in art and history classes.

I recently bought a National Geographic magazine because it was about ancient Rome and the gladiators. Of course most people know that they used exotic animals in these spectacles. I thinks its safe to assume that they were obtaining these animals through trade more often than not.
