This is a brief excerpt from my exclusive stream for Dark One a few weeks ago. You may be seeing a few of these pop up over the next several weeks.
Sorry about the mic noise, we were trying to get another camera set up during the recording and the secondary mic was bumped a few times.

Unpopular opinion: I didn't like it very much. Most of the books n 12 and 13 were just too different from Jordan's usual style, and Matthew's masterplan in book 14th was just a deus ex machina instead of finally showing Matt's military genius.

@@august4471 Depending on your reading speed even if you start Brandon tomorrow you are likely to have enough to read till 5 is out. It will only be 2/3 years and we will have it and there is a LOT to read. I mean Cosmere alone is what 12 books, 6 or 7 novellas, 3 graphic novels and more being written all the time. Just saying I wouldn't wait too long. Also I know some poeple like to know a series is done before they start but if you get up to date before then, you can have a lot of fun engaging with the other fans theory crafting and speculating on Book 5 and feel a little build up while you are at it :) Reckoners is great as is Skyward and they are great entries into Sanderson. Rithmatist is excellent too.

But knowing quite a bit Brandon's fandom, im pretty sure he wont dissapoint in book 5. "I wasn't going to write Perrin with the wrong personality..." In Towers of Midnight, Perrin had at least an entire book's worth of character regression. It felt like Knife of Dreams never happened and Perrin was back to whiny emo status again. He did a lot of manning up in KoD. But, at least it wasnt boring. Great job on stepping up the pacing and making things happen again.

@Trisjack20
@Trisjack20 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm your mileage may vary. I did not find this at all but then again I would never describe Perrin as whiny or emo so we probably just have very different views on the character and on the meaning of those words. So basically you can have that opinion of course but if you are interested there are very different ones and several of the readers think Brandon's writing of Perrin was very much in keeping with his ongoing personality. Anyway if you are interested on why I think that there's more below. If not, enjoy your reading and watching :) Personally I feel Perrin was always the one who did not to 'man up' (a phrase I personally hate). From the very beginnning he was someone who looked for balance and wanted people to be safe and happy. His challenge was that he had such intense physical strength and power of the wolfbrother. His journey is getting complete as he accepts himself as a leader on the Two Rivers, finds he can control the Berelain agression and comes to understand his wife. Moving towards being able to finally choose the hammer and be happy with it. Then she is taken throwing out his whole world. Then he embraces the axe goes too far and uses that to finally throw it away and embrace who he wants to be and rescue Faile and move onward. I don't see it as regression I see it as the culmination of his character. He has always been emotional, especially internally. He has always worried about strength, violence and his own potential. Those things do not disappear but for a while he got dragged into someone he was not in order to do something extreme. What we find in the last two books of the series is he has gone full circle and moved back to his core but better. Now he is making the choice he wanted to make in book 1 but doing it not because he is afraid of himself or the axe but because the hammer is who is is and what he wants. He has recognised that he does not need to be the savage who will torture a prisoner to be able to make hard decisions and that there needs to be limits to self sacrifice. Anyway, just never found him to not be written to Perrin's personality. No problem that you do think of that journey as a regression but wanted to put across why many of us do not find that the case. From his comments Brandon also does not think of it that way.

I think names aren't that important to people outside of identifying a person to another person. It is the interactions we remember. So while a name may be completely forgotten if we hear "it was the character who did these things" we usually remember.

@@timidalchemist8475 i actually somewhat like Tuon, her motivation and choices make sense. The thing that i don't really like in many of the character is how easy it is the other characters accomplish a lot of thing. Many of Egwene accomplishments feel like handed out to her while her mistakes have minimum consequences, compared to Rand he struggled all the time. To accomplish something he had to sacrifice a lot and it's not always turned out to be good or successful at all. Gawyn by start of book 12 was portrayed as the most badass swordman in the world even though it was only what 3-5 year since the start of the series. The thing is, it makes sense Rand, Mat, and Perrin to become the king, leader, conquerer or whatever because they are supposed to be powerful Ta'varen but the other are not. Pretty much too many of the side characters either become master swordsman, master politician or master Aes Sedai and it trivialized the three main protagonist a lot.

@@gumilarramadhan6265I mean, given their connected souls of past events, it make sense to why characters become who they are throughout the series especially when you look at most of the characters parallels to Arthurian legends/Myths.
