I was in the petroleum business for 40 years working in refining, pipelines, terminaling, and additives. Lake's presentation is the best I have ever seen and he is correct on every point he made. Everyone should see this presentation, put in particular those who are running high compression, high performance engines.

The car is 10xs smoother quieter and seems to accelerate a heck of a lot better. I was between marvel muster and Lucas but man this stuff is great, I’ve been watching videos on tunes I can buy for $600+ this is a $30 “mod” with instant results 50 mile update Oil temp before the two additives was 212 initially it went to 220 now it’s 207 degrees F

Very informative video, never knew about the PEA in the additives, now I have to look for which ones have PEA. About not refueling when the tanker is at the station filling the gas station tanks. I understand about the bad stuff getting mixed around in the fuel tank, but doesn't the fuel pump pull from the lower part of the storage tanks? Doesn't make sense for the fuel pumps to pull fuel from the top of the storage tanks. Which would mean, there must not be too much bad stuff sitting at the bottom...unless the very bottom is emergency storage in the tank to prevent the pumps from pumping dry, and the pick point for the fuel pumps are a couple of feet above the bottom...is that correct? Does anyone know for sure where the fuel pump pick up point is in the storage tanks?

Great video. I really appreciate the comments about the octane number being different in different countries. Where do I find a good chart to see the conversions? Also, if you have an older Porsche that might have had an engine rebuild and a non standard compression ratio, how can you look up the octane quality required for your engine?
@TotalSeal
@TotalSeal 2 жыл бұрын
If your engine has been modified with an increased compression ratio, you will need a higher octane fuel. There is not a chart that correlates compression ratio to octane because there are too many variables to be absolute.

This was an EXCELLENT episode. So much great information from Lake Speed, Jr. Based on this news of 15% ethanol, I would love to hear him come back and talk about it. I know the advice would be buy ethanol free gas, but that's not always possible. So what should we be doing to combat this to not destroy our motors that were not designed for this? Do we have to be more careful when pushing our cars this summer? Do we need to make sure we're putting in a really good PEA additive at each fill up this summer? If so, love some recommendations on any particular brands. Thank you.

Hi. Now, I'm not a PCA member as I live in New Zealand, but I thought this might be of interest ref: this extremely good video. I wanted to see if I could improve my engine performance (996 mk2) without messing with, but complimenting Porsche factory mechanical design ... Around 2000kms after a full rebuild (IMS) I had my ECU reprogrammed to run on 98/100 octane. This has made an extraordinary difference to an already fabulous engine. Increase to 361HP and and 412 NM (Rolling dyno). Fuel consumption is also much improved. (Town11.3 ltrs /9.3 per 100 kms long run). Of course, this may also be due in part, because Porsche underestimate their engine power from the factory? Then, there's ethanol additive ... what's this for 98/100? So what am I saying? Many years ago I was a Porsche workshop manager in Brooklyn, and I've been a Porsche fanatic ever since ... and I wouldn't want you lot to miss out on any of the fun!

I let some ethanol gas sit in the tank of a vintage 2-stroke once for several years. Guess what happened? Started right up and ran like new. How is that possible? Most 2-stroke oil suppresses corrosion and has it's own additives to prevent separation. We had another bike, a notably fussy German Maico (the Porsche of dirt bikes) with 12 year old fuel in the aluminum tank. No corrosion or damage, but at that point it did run funny. But! Porsches don't get premix, so ethanol will definitely be a problem if you let your car sit. I still eagerly await the first 2-stroke GT3. Imagine the sound.

Some good tips on maintenance. totally off base about knock. First, "pre-ignition" doesn't happen. The proper technical term is autoignition aka spontaneous ignition. The pressure spike always happens several degrees after TDC when you have peak cylinder pressure, never before spark timing. Logically, how can you manage something that happens before the spark plug fires by changing spark timing? "Hot spots" and carbon are also not factors. Even the PhD at SAE don't know what's going on. They'll only tell you to use the octane the engine needs to not knock...and a very good synthetic oil.

Then they add the alcohol and proprietary additive package. The trucks often have residual fuel between loads. 100-250 gallons per delivery. There is also residual fuel in the hose at the pump. Good stuff guys. Sold my 991 and recently bought a C8. The car is a blast. Give it a try if you get a chance. See you at the track.

I would love to know the ratio of people who pick these certain oils and fuel vs the ones that just grab Mobil1 or Amzoil and fill up at their local gas station and don't bother with Porsche specialized stuff. I still laugh at the YT video on synthetic for old Porsches. This is a dealership service department joke to sell more services. You have to ask yourself why a porsche service manager is a commission based job. This is an age old ploy to sell more oil and additives. What a waste of money for nothing. No one ever asks the question... how MUCH more moisture will a certain fuel hold than another fuel because you'll get a deer in the headlights look. They won't know the answer because if they did, it would be inconsequential. These poor guys have drunk the koolaid and lost their common sense and don't have grandfathers to tell them any different. Change the filter and use the same oil for 10-15k miles. Or... do your own experiment. You'll be surprised at the results. Porsches aren't delicate Swiss time pieces. Drive them and they will last you a lifetime. Ever wondered why you see all the 25-30 year owned cars for sale that run perfectly? What happened to the reputation of a German manufacturer? These cars are tough. Stop trying to make them seem like cream puffs.
