Wheelies Are Easy Aren't They?

A tongue in cheek title because I certainly did not find it easy to pull a convincing wheelie. In my defence this was the first time I'd ever practiced doing it and there was some definite improvement from when I first started. Either way, like all my videos they are just for fun and a bit of light hearted entertainment.

Good to see I’m not the only one with a bike far more capable than myself 😂

Never a truer word said in my case. My skills may never match the ability of this bike but I’m having fun with it and that’s what’s important. 👍

Solid effort mate 👌 it's a handy technique to learn for sure, especially when you come across rain gullys and washouts last second when you're bombing down a lane, thats likely when this tip comes most useful, otherwise you'll likey end up over the bars... and that's no fun 😂 If in doubt, get the arse over the rear fender and pull on those bars, and a solid tip... dont stand on the pegs flat footed, you want to be on the back edge of the pegs with the balls of your feet using your bet ankle and bent knees as suspension too, grip the bike with your knees and stay lose on the bars 🤙🏻

Thanks for the advice, I’m slowly gaining in confidence, it takes a total reset of your brain to deliberately ride on one wheel when you have two perfectly formed wheels as standard. 😂 I’ll practice what you’ve recommended though. 👍

I’ve been struggling with this. It’s lack of confidence and timing for me, didn’t help I had a huge full throttle crash practicing hole shot starts the week before which made my body sub consciously go into guarding mode 😂. I’m trying to practice lofting front from slow speed or zero speed to clear stuff. I’ve come to conclusion I’ll book an off road training day with someone like Paul Bolton etc. Let the pros teach me and feed back what I’m cocking up.

Yeah you're probably better off having some professional training if your nerves are shot after a crash. It is literally a confidence thing, I was bricking it doing this thinking I was going to flip the bike over or something but thankfully that never happened.

You should invest in pod knee braces and shoulder pads, The first angled slippery log and you're going down.

I wear both of those safety items, I have no desire to seriously injure myself. If I fall off as you’ve suggested then I’ll reflect on why that happened and what I can do to prevent a repeat and hopefully learn from it. 👍

Hi. Love your videos. A real newbie question here I know but one on which I'd value your opinion please. How do you find it road riding (as in getting out to the green lanes etc) with no mirrors? I kind of had the use of mirrors drummed into me whilst training for my licence but as I want to do mainly green laning I still need to try and stay a bit safe on the roads getting there! As I said, I'd value your thoughts. Kind regards

To be fair, riding with no mirrors on a road is a bit dodgy and I don't like doing it. Likewise this bike has no indicators so I have to use hand signals if any signal is needed. Generally I will trailer this bike to wherever I am riding or as I now have a van I will shove it in the van. The only reason I rode this bike to this trail was that it isn't too far from home. The best mirrors I have found for Offroad riding are the Double Take Mirrors, you can buy them from Amazon or some bike shops stock them. Use them when riding to the trail then either take them off completely and put them in a rucksack or better still just fold them inwards so they are not protruding beyond the bars and then when you drop your bike they won't get damaged. I have the Double Take Mirrors on my Husky 701. 👍

i don't do (much) offroad, so while i can appreciate your wheelie reasons i just wanna avoid them after it shitted me up doing a couple of unexpected wheelies by accident going uphill when i dropped gear, if i never do another it will be too soon, maybe it's coz im chicken, but i wanna keep both wheels flat at all times lol, and seeing older guys pulling 'em on motorbike reviews or even on the road thinking they look cool aint a good look IMHO, can't take 'em seriously after that (it aint a good look on a freshly minted yob at 16 either), but as i said, you have a definate reason to develop it, so GL with it & Take care.

Hi thanks for watching and leaving a comment. You will never see me popping a wheelie on a ‘road’ as that simply isn’t me or the way I ride. I think it’s important if you’re doing a bit of green laning to have the confidence to lift the front wheel a little bit even if just to lighten it up when riding over a rock or fallen tree etc. However what you see on this video is probably about my limit, I occasionally see some KZfaqrs who should know better popping wheelies on main roads and they are just stupid in my opinion and at the same time risking their licence if they get spotted by the Old Bill. I completely understand your desire to keep both tyres firmly on the ground, it doesn’t make you a chicken, it just makes you a sensible careful rider. 👍👍

If you do enduro as a sport you have to be able to loft the front wheel to some degree sooner or later. I’m still trying to learn how to and not get freaked out that I’ll whisky it. It’s not about looks just trying to clear obstacles. I’ve got my first ever race Sunday. Ruh Roh!

@@airindiana Ha, good luck with your race at the weekend, if you’re racing enduro you must be pretty good. I’m going to keep practicing until lifting that front wheel just becomes second nature. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. 👍

@@701Adventuresthanks Steve! Definitely am NOT good 😂, I’ve just done 6 months of enduro play days. Places like pea farm on the Pennines (recommend that on your 350, it’s ace fun and loads of people to ask tips. Everyone helps everyone out when they get stuck. It’s good for confidence with the laning). it’s more a “have a go what’s the worse” mentality that signed me up to get my licence and enter, I’m in the novice class. I think as long as I get out the way of the faster riders and settle in I’ll be ok. The next difficulty will be for me lasting the race as I’m wacked by 1 hour on a play day. Even if I DNF I’ll be happy I tried. Even more comical is in August I’m entering the 10 hour overnight portion of the Dusktildawn enduro in Wales 😂. Good luck with the wheelie practice you were getting on great in this video I reckon. It’ll come.

@@airindiana Lol, you must be mad doing an overnight enduro event especially for ten hours. I doubt I’d last two hours! 😂 I’ve never heard of Pea Farm but I’ve just looked at it online and it looks decent, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the info. 👍

So you have a 701, right? Try to go with little higher RPM. The Bike is going to have much more Torque and is easier to pull up

You should ride where those trees have been cut and sticks and logs are on the ground. A loose log in the road is not practiced that's just dumb. They're more dangerous cause they can roll around.
@701Adventures
@701Adventures 4 ай бұрын
The area where the trees have been cut is not legal to ride on, the only area which is legal is the fire trail where I am. The loose log on the road is just an obstacle, it could just as easily represent a rock, a hollow in the ground a fallen tree etc. It’s not dumb to practice trying to negotiate a fallen log on a fire trail, why would that be dumb? They won’t roll if you hit them right and the intention is to ensure any contact between the rear tyre and the log is swift and decisive therefore minimising the possibility of the rear wheel sliding left or right and throwing you off the bike. 👍
