Being genuinely excited by GOT content honestly one of the biggest surprises of 2022. Did it sneak up on you too??

In that scene between Daemon and Viserys you also get the sense of a really old relationship. The audience can believe that these two people have been having fights like this their entire lives even though it's in the first episode. It's hard to make that kind of magic happen, but the combination of writing, acting, and directing did it. And yeah, Daemon is definitely the best character. I loved him instantly.

Such a shame that we didn't get to see more of Milly Alcock! Loved every second of her performance... And Matt Smith is probably the best casting in the entirety of HotD & GoT

I agree it has been one of the best shows this year - a bit of a slow-burner with some weird time jumps that I had trouble with, but really awesome character developments. Paddy Considine was BRILLIANT and Matt Smith has pleasantly surprised me. Can't wait for S2.

Paddy considine not getting an Emmy nomination for his performance is one of the worst Emmy snubs in years. Incredible performance that truly elevated this first season.

I don't watch Got or Hod & I might never since I tried & couldn't really get into it but I've watched countless videos abt it because I'm an entertainment nerd like that... This has been the most succinct & clear description of its appeal that I've seen.

Yeah I feel like people usually lead with "the dragons/sex scenes/violence are awesome!" byline, and they're certainly fun, but the character development is pretty incredible for the sheer number of characters introduced. (+HBO's casting almost never misses). Never too late to jump in!

Daemon's great but I think what makes HOTD great is it's themes and how they change the main character Rhaenrya. Like Daemon is only cool because of how he contradicts the world and how he contrasts with first Viserys and now Rhaenrya. Same thing with Aemond. A character with that little screen time can't be the reason a show is great.

Agreed the theming and world building are both elite. I still think Daemon's characterisation elevated the show for me though.

You bring up book vs show and not knowing. The show is actually confirmed to be the objective account of these events, while the books are two dudes arguing.

I haven’t watch it yet but it doesn’t seem or sound anywhere as good as OG GoT. And OG wasn’t as good as the books. I’m disappointed that they put so much emphasis on one character. I think that’s what derailed GoT at the end, along with the crazy time skips, poor character development (again, towards the end), and plot armor. My favorites parts of GoT and the books are events like Bran getting pushed out of the tower, the Red Wedding, Ned getting betrayed, Bran eating the three eyed raven (books), etc. Not because I supported those things happening- they were awful. But I still remember them years later because of the world Martin connected me to and how much those events changed it. I hope this prequel does more of that.

To be fair they put equal emphasis on probably 4 main characters - Viserys, Daemon, Rhaenyra, and Alicent. Daemon just had the biggest impact on me. But like I said, I haven't read 'Fire and Blood' so I'm unsure how accurate the series is to the books.
