can't wait to start a trailer reaction channel!!

Dude I've been preaching this FOR YEARS! We get to the movie 20 minutes late on purpose nowadays and usually still have another 10 minutes to wait outside until trailers are over. Ever since Star Trek: Into Darkness ages ago which literally spoiled the ending in the teaser, trailer, and POSTER, just can't do it anymore.

You said it! My partner loves to read ALL the reviews before we see something and only wants to see it if it's been rated well and has a known cast. But I've always thought that reading those things before would warp my opinion. I like going into it not knowing what to expect and then deciding what I think before reading about what others thought. Otherwise, the experience just isn't as good. And trailers can definitely be like that too.

One of the biggest misunderstandings people make is that marketing people are creative. I've worked with a lot of marketing people and they are the dullest unimaginative people you'll ever meet (although most will describe themselves as highly creative and love to drink a bit too much). They love reviewing trends and handing off the creative work, but then have the final say, messing up the whole process.

bro. thank you!! since about 2015/2016 i've tried to limit myself to only viewing the 1st or teaser trailer for movies I KNOW i'm already going to go see. you may not be, but my ass IS that crazy person who will either step outside the audit or put my earphones on to avoid them. i just think it's super important to go into a movie and see every thing for the first time. but i feel as if, for some strange reason, a lot of people want to know literally everything about a movie before going to see it. it's mind boggling. and what's even worse; mfs are actually complaining about trailers not spoiling everything. on some, "bro, i watched the trailer three times and i still don't know what the plot is." i'm like "THAT'S GOOD YO! why don't you watch the movie and find out?" aight, let me relax lol. but great video yo. you really speaking to my soul

A sentiment not a lot of people truly understand, they fail to understand that trailers aren't released nowadays to introduce or inform about a film or series but garner hype for them Hence we get like multiple set of teasers which are followed by a couple of trailers, they aren't interested to show tid bits of information but some of the core facets of their story which in turns decreases the effectiveness of the actual film or series Mystery, Thriller and Horror genres suffer the most from it, as the promotional pieces sometimes shows the deaths or jumpscares from them, a decision that will continue to baffle me So many films are ruined or suffer from if the person watching has seen the trailer, the entire surprise element that those genre rely on are revealed way before they are meant to be made apparent

I close my eyes when anything interesting comes on during the trailer at a theater... I tend to open them right at the end or as close as I can just to catch the title.

One of the best trailers I've ever seen was about 20 seconds long that just flashed big impact moments from the movie on screen for half a second and then the title of the movie. I didn't know much about the plot and it peaked gave me a sense of "I have to know what this is about" and I wish more trailers would do this

I try to hide my eyes during most of all trailers. I've been burned too many times. Especially with horror movies.

I went into Gone Girl completely blind & it still remains one of my favorite movies / plot twists of all time

I always have the problem of seeing a trailer getting hype and then the movie sucks.

I focused strongly on the last part, with people saying there aren't any good movies anymore. This is only like 25% true, the overall amount of great movies has decreased, but there are still wonderful gems coming out, and the amount of truly fresh movies is - to me - very satisfying. I say that largely because while I am a movie nerd, I am way more a music nerd. And the music scene right now is disastrous, with the feeling of freshness the biggest casualty. No matter how dig you deep, everything sounds like something you have heard before. There is no one trying, everyone just copies or "gets inspired by". This isn't the case with movies. Nope, EEAAO, Barbarian, Pig, even blockbusters like Barbie and GotG Vol 3 - all feel fresh. Even if inspired by other filmmakers, or rooted in a genre, they still feel like something new. Can't say about a single song from the last 5-10 years.

I still remember when Pixar deceived me with Toy Story 3, I thought it was going to be like the previous 2, but they gave me a thriller movie and a near death incinerator scene, which then led to one of the most emotional resolutions ever. I love Pixar, but that was a huge bait and switch 😂

It is so much more fun to go into movies with a vague idea of what will happen, and just the promise of good actors, directors, producers, etc

First - love the channel..... Your experience cutting three emotionally distinct trailers is so very telling! Second - it's hard, but I try to avoid trailers for any movie I plan on seeing. I love it when a KZfaq thumbnail gives away a major spoiler for a film I've yet to see - good job🙄! Although, maybe I SHOULD have watched the trailers for Black Adam before I wasted 2 hours of my life!

I got to see Shawshank in a tv/ film class in middle school without ever knowing that it existed before then, I'll never forget it; my tv/ film teacher said to always watch a movie without knowing *anything* about it, good advice imo

I agree with pretty much all of this, I mean I don't think I'd have enjoyed Aftersun as much if I'd seen a trailer for it and knew where it was gonna go. However... Just to offer a slightly different perspective, I sometimes have trouble starting movies. The idea of committing two hours to something I might not like kinda puts me off in a way and it's tough to hit that play button. But I find if I watch a trailer for something first, 99% of the time just seeing clips from the film in that context gets me interested enough to happily click through and watch it.

I stopped watching trailers around the time the MCU started getting big. I remember being a massive Thor fan and wanting to know NOTHING about the film, to the point I would actually cover my ears and shut my eyes when anything came on at the cinema. 10/10 have never looked back since.

You bought up a great point, going into a movie knowing absolutely nothing is a great approach, I’ve also had some of the best experiences going into it blind. Some people think that is unusual and makes no sense, I’ve noticed it works out great a lot of the time.

I try not to watch trailers but when I do I always seek out the first teaser that was released on the official studio youtube page, least likely to have spoilers while still giving me an idea of what the movie is gonna be

I love going into movies blind me and a couple cinema fanatic friends only recomend eachother movies off the basis of the name and director, along with certian actors in the movie. When someone tells me to check out a movie its about... I just stop them right there and they're always like wait dont you wanna know what its about? The simple answer is no, I want to experience what it's about.

I stopped watching Trailers to Everything years ago. Best decision ever. I never get disappointed by a bad film because the trailer made me think it was going to be good. I look up a list of whats coming out or is out, then watch it on sites we cant mention here :) Im up to date on most films and didnt watch a single trailer for any of them... ignorance is bliss or something like that...

Isn't the countdown before the trailer because the same video is used for the Ads that are played before other KZfaq videos. They put the countdown to hook the viewer before the they can skip the AD after the 5 second countdown

i only watch the first bit of the trailer, like one minute max. so i get a glimpse if i like the vibe of the movie but dont get spoiled. works really great for me for a long time now.

Good video. I suggest that if you have to check out a trailer, either watch a teaser, or watch the first few seconds of the FIRST trailer, maybe the first 30 seconds or minute. BUT if the music or song being used changes, then it probably means that the trailer will start showing heavier spoilers or parts from the second half of the film that you probably don't want to watch before going to the cinema. This is particularly true in romantic comedies.

I'm never watching another movie again. movies are a waste of time. instead i will be indulging in creative works and reading books about the world. fiction is a children's plaything. I also think that are so many movies and shows and ways to watch them that they somewhat dilutes the theater experience. People like to watch it on their phone on the go, stream on to their TV at home, social media, etc.

Trailers are made for the lowest common denominator and unfortunately that person doesn't care about spoilers.

As someone that stopped watching trailers like 10 YEARS ago, it is absolutely wild to see that they're intentionally misrepresenting movies. I stopped cause they were simply spoiling the movies. I also stopped watching them for games. Also stopped watching reviews for games/movies. Media, as a whole, is so much more entertaining now.

I stopped watching trailers for movies and tv shows when I was 15. Really just pointless shit.

If there is a movie I'm genuinely interested in, I avoid the trailer at all cost. If it's a movie I like "meh" interested in (as in, idk if I'm ever gonna see this movie), I usually watch the trailer. this strat has not disappointed me for the last 7 or so years.

I am still a sucker for previews- love that taste of excitement and anticipation. I am going to say that I do think there’s a better chance for it to be a good movie with a preview that doesn’t give it all away - part of the movie package is advertising and previews and if they’re subpar it may reflect the quality of the film. I won’t watch KZfaq reviews if I’m excited to see a movie. Don’t want to see the little special drops, hear how the music was scored, cameos, or who was supposed to play that part. I will watch all of this for a movie I’m not excited about and sometimes all of it will make me interested to watch. Funny how all the reviewer make such an impact…

Watching the trailer destroys the feeling of the movie. I remember by chance I saw the movie John Wick, part 1, I didn't know anything about it, I didn't even know it existed.And after watching the movie, I fell in love with the movie, which was never repeated in the next movies The trailer raises expectations and that's bad

I've stopped watching trailers too! It's been pretty great to just pick a movie based off it's titles or who's in it or even cover art & then deside to watch it, not even knowing what the plot is or what it's rated. A fun surprise 8/10 times. Start with a movie you know you want to see anyways, so just skip the trailer and you'll get more pleasure from the movie IE Barbie movie, Fast & furious, the next Scream or w/e

I remember taking a risk on "The Whole Nine Yards" and loving it. I went to RT after and realized I propbably would have passed on it. This approach of going into a movie as blind as possible, not RT/review sites or trailers is not a bad idea and might be the only way to enjoy movies now. I would admit that Id miss watching trailers though

I died the day I saw a mini-trailer to announce the trailer. It's cute and all that the actors get involved, but it doesn't really add anything to the movie. You immediately forget their extra involvement and it doesn't become a standing point in the marketing to hear anyone talk about cute little trailer intro. I don't know who the target audience is, but they're missing the mark.

I went into Endgame almost blind...it was almost a part-time job avoiding all the trailers, reviews, reactions, etc. (I saw it something like 3-4 weeks into its run....yeah hard work.) Same for Wakanda Forever (though I accidentally saw a few things ahead). And I still haven't seen an Ant Man Quantumania trailer....Actually, now that I think about it, I go into most movies without trailers, though it's sometimes hard to avoid comments unless I go to an opening weekend. ...which I rarely do.

I've basically stopped watching trailers unless they are teasers or about a minute long. Anything close to or over 2 minutes I've avoided because I DO feel like you're basically watching the whole movie when watching trailers these days. What would be interesting is to go watch them after watching the movie to see if the teaser, teaser 2, first trailer, second trailer and final trailer have anything in common with the movie I just watched 😂

I only watch the teaser announcement trailers. I don’t need to watch more if I’m going to watch a movie. If I don’t plan on watching the moving idc I’ll watch the trailers and spoil it.

Watching a movie in the theater is a lot of money. The recently watched The Chosen in theaters and I was happy to give them my money because they proved I would enjoy their content by offering it for free before. The last movie I saw that I watched knowing absolutely nothing was Arsenic and Old Lace from 1944. TCM just started playing the next movie. After watching I was very confused about how I had never heard of that movie before.

You're right but I've seen some phenomena trailers recently, where they don't spoil too much. Mainstream blockbusters and superheroes are never good measures for good trailers. Also, e,g, Mission Impossible trailer is technically a 'supercut' but not spoiling the plot at all. Also some trailers are so good the movie disappoints, like Tenet. Then again its pretty reliable that any prestige film or indie films gets good trailers that don't supercut the whole film, and any blockbuster trailer usually spoils. Because how else are you gonna attract people in the modern-day of internet and mobile phones and social media? They're desperate to shake the keys in front of your eyes to attract any attention whatsoever. Lets be honest here, besides the iconic films, how good were old trailers really? Most of them were just the voiceover narration and text anyways, with some dialogue snippets. So yeah modern day movie trailers spoil (mostly cuz studios are desperate and they need to advertise on every single front to keep people engaged enough in the modern world of distraction), but thats cuz back in the day trailers had a very narrow window of advertisement on cable-tv to run.

The trailer before the trailer is because of KZfaq. Preroll ads are skippable after 5 seconds, so the trailer needs to grab the viewers' attention in that 5 seconds. It's actually pretty clever, but also, yes, really annoying

you can avoid every trailer, it's easy, just don't click on them if they're thrust at you on TV then guess what, don't own a TV seriously, life gets better when you cut away all the fat i barely ever watch movies, but when i do, i've not seen the trailer and i normally enjoy the movie

I cover my ears and shut my eyes and go 'la la la' for trailers. When I saw The Crying Game I hadn't even seen the movie poster. I thought, as that movie started, it might be like Kiss of the Spider Woman and stay in the opening imprisoned in the greenhouse sequence for the whole movie. I think I got so much more out of that experience than if I'd known any details at all about the movie. No trailers for me ever since. That's 30 years. Call me a psycho. I don't care.

Trailers are fascinating to analyze, especially their evolution, but yeah, American trailers are a modern plague.

Buddy, I hate to break it to you, but most people don't watch movies for the plot. Most people watch movies to see the actors they either want to sleep with or emulate. Men think they will become more manly by copying the Mark Wahlbergs and Dwayne Johnsons, and women think they will become more sassy and beautiful by copying the Jennifer Lawrences. Most people can't tell you what happened in a movie they just watched, but they can say which actors they liked. That's why so many movies make no sense, reveal all of the interesting points in the trailer, and still make a lot of money. It's good for you that you've found a way to enjoy movies more, but the average person operates on an entirely different spectrum.

I respectfully disagree. I personally think that trailers are vital to a person's engagement with something, but it's more a matter of how that's cultivated that makes a big difference. It's an art in its own form, and like many ways of making art, there are right ways and wrong ways to go about it that either end up looking great, terrible, or average. While I enjoy going into something blind occasionally, I don't think it's fair to ignore every trailer that comes out. Sure, some of them can and have spoiled too much, but I honestly don't see too many trailers that do spoil everything. I've seen a few (Terminator: Genesys, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Fast and Furious 9, etc.), but these are rare, despite how imposing they may feel, given the massive scale of these successful franchises. But I don't think it contributes to some decline in the state of film or that it's killing cinema or something. IMO it's an overexaggerated and generalizing claim that feels ignorant of the MANY trailers that don't do what these few trailers have done. But that's just me, personally. I can understand how your experience making trailers made you feel this way about them, but their bizarre process isn't indicative of the entire industry of making trailers. I work in that industry, and never once was I asked to turn a drama into a comedy or vice versa or to make three trailers of the same thing, each under a different genre. When I'm asked to make a trailer by a studio, Im given a brief rundown of what to include and exclude in the trailer, but how the trailer is cut is done by my own merit and execution. Afterward, they give me notes on what they liked, what they didn't like, and what they want me to tweak to make it better, and after a couple of back and forths, it gets locked down and made ready for release. I understand that I'm speaking purely from my own experiences, and I can't assume the methods of making the trailer I've undergone are the same for every studio. Still, I can assure you the way you were asked to do things was just flat-out wrong on their part, and it's not indicative of the entire industry. Several trailers of big/small films may look like they're showing too much, but they're either not, or the story isn't 100% laid out on the table for everyone to know how it all unfolds. Take, for example, the recent trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Compared to the initial teaser, more footage is shown to generate hype, BUT I still don't know what it's about: only that it's the last film with these characters, and it's gonna be sad. I know next to NOTHING about who the villains are in their nature, personality, objectives, etc., or what the story will be, how the arcs of these characters will unfold, etc. It does what a good trailer should do and what many trailers already do: It shows enough, more than the teaser showed but still enough, and does it in a way that generates interest and excitement in people, while STILL leaving things open to interpretation until people watch the film or show to get the full context of what's happening. There are many trailers like that today, both for big and small things. Take it or leave it, idc. I just wanted to speak my mind :)

I don't watch movies because they suck. It's not the trailers. It's the garbage, CGI in a green box, BORING movies. I don't even watch trailers.
