If the fighters are still failing drug tests after they've been punished, that means the suspension time isn't long enough. If I'm to take the UFC's word for why they don't want fighters using PED's, it doesn't really matter when they ingested them. The steroids are in the body giving the fighter an advantage. How much of an advantage? Irrelevant. If we're debating how much of an advantage, it's still an advantage. The only way to solve this problem is 0 tolerance. If the steroids are in the system, the fighter cannot fight. Or, just let fighters compete with steroids. This lukewarm , middle of the road bullshit is annoying everybody, because some fighters clearly get special treatment.

Squid Im confused by Chael P, biology, physics, physiology,chemistry are all science. Science is proven analysis through experimentation and actual hard data. All science isn't junk science it's man's interpretation and manipulation of scientific fact that's the junk.
@Danishruyu15 жыл бұрын
^ So true. As a professor once told me, it’s all about how you craft your story using the data. There are teams of scientists who have have managed to come up with contradictory conclusions using the same data just because they presented it in a different context
@michaelr.48785 жыл бұрын
@@Danishruyu1 - I know what you are saying and can relate to it. In university, I chose sociology as my major because I could mostly write papers and avoid exams and tests. In that field, you can essentially claim anything and write lengthy, in depth research papers on it, just as long as you have research, data and claims to support it. It doesn't make it true. But as long as your thesis can be backed up by some type of type of argument with data, you can write about it and get a passing grade. I am writing this to support what you said about legit scientists coming up with contradicting results and conclusions. You could claim that the moon is purple, as long as your arguments supporting it. It could be that if you shone a light at the moon at an exact angle..on a certain day at a certain time... You can argue that and have it be considered a legitimate paper. ...By the way Chael P. Sonnen also has a BA in sociology if I remember correctly. Great minds think alike! hehehe
@nohbdy11225 жыл бұрын
All right, Chael, I honestly want to become a scientist, particularly a physicist. In fact, I've been interested in science for as long as I can remember, I became fixated on physics when I was about 11 years old, and I am now pursuing my physics major. People interested in science certainly aren't common, especially from a young age, but we do exist. Also, for what it's worth, I agree that science is not absolute, and anyone that has even the slightest understanding of science should be able to tell you that. However, the point of science is to be as accurate as possible in its representation of reality *at least according to our current knowledge thereof as revealed to us through experimentation.*

Do you think he doesn't really know whats hes saying ? like he might mean that there are no such thing as scientists in the PED analysis industry ? If not hes just being dumb as fuck , probably based on the fact that he went and did something that most intelligent people would advise against i.e your going to see a lot of scientist doing it.
@isaac67055 жыл бұрын
Worse, his understanding is incredibly far off. Science doesn't just drastically change. It typically just becomes more accurate. Look at the jump from Newtonian physics to our current understanding of physics that requires relativity at incredible masses and quantum mechanics at the atomic level. Newtonian physics is still great for most physical problems your average human will encounter. There are edge cases that were worked out as we understood more. But also... MMA fans and people who know scientists or are involved in sciences makes for a pretty small cross section.

The player was Maria Sharapova, and she was abusing a drug that she (and the Russians generally) thought they could get away with. Yes, it's legal in Eastern Europe, but the symptoms it's legitimately given for would have ruled out high level athletics. No way she was both winning AND in authentic need for that med. Just no. It's like giving red blood cells - sure, someone with anemia may have a legitimate need for the therapy, but in an athlete it's called blood doping and is correctly banned. She knew that she was getting at least a one year suspension because she didn't dispute that she'd used it after it had been put on the banned list, the two year suspension she appealed. No retroactive ban was applied, she was using before the ban but she was suspended because she still took it after. She earned the end of her career all by herself.

The comments about science and scientists are misleading at best and terribly ill-informed at worst. No one identifies as a "scientist" because there are so many branches of science. There are thousands of people who identify as mechanical engineers, biologists, research chemists, aeronautical designers, architects, computer hardware engineers, zoologists, just to give a few examples of jobs or job titles that explicitly describe a branch of science and are jobs that are directly related to, and use various scientific methods. The point of science, in fact it's very definition, is that is a method of researching and learning knowledge by the evaluation of evidence, the application of logical and rational thought, and the constant demand to support any statement with evidence to demonstrate it's veracity. Science is simply the best way humanity has found to describe how the universe works, and a lot of the stuff in it, including us. Science does not, has not, and will never make the claim that it knows everything, or that anything currently held as a theory, is not subject to change based on new evidence to the contrary. What you are describing is are methods developed using scientific techniques, without pointing out the human factor where we make errors, assuming that because the word science is used it automatically means accurate. If the scientific method is applied rigorously, accurately and without bias, it achieves results. What you are talking about is academic politics surround publishing results, and some "scientific" methods being kept behind closed doors because of patent laws, and are therefore no open to public scrutiny. I was agreeing with you, until this idiotic diatribe about science. Science isn't right or wrong, science is a method for determining if something is factually correct or incorrect, nothing more or less.

It’s because the golden snitch explained it on Joe Rogan’s podcast it’s a simple as Jon Jones is a snitch. And he ratted out some people so his sentence got reduced significantly. To the point where he’s probably an asset now🤔 And do you really think at the end of the year UFC gonna lose potential millions because they didn’t get a PPV event before the years end?? Who else would be perfect other then Jon Jones who attracts big PPV buys? Conner The double Champ obviously.

That irish drunket is really still running around with those two belts, khabib should look him up, wipe the floor with him, AGAIN, and take one of the belts off him , off to "pawn stars" and donate the money for something. one question tough, have you ever seen anybody ,who lost a title in a fight or was stripped of the title, running around with the belt, although they all physically still have the belt at home . Anyone in any combat sport?

Bruh. Just because kids who grew up with you in rural Oregon didn't end up becoming scientists doesn't mean they don't exists.. Just because you're a 40 year old who has spent his life surrounded by "meatheads" and hasn't met a scientist doesn't mean they don't exist.. Look up a science conference in your city and attend it. Congratulations, you have now met scientists. I understand that the point you are making is regarding drug testing related science. Don't confuse the field of general sciences with the quackery that is USADA testing.

Let me preface this by saying my problem is with Chael saying science is a bogus industry and the term scientists is bogus. Chael loses people when he claims this. When he says, "no one else will know, if the six of us come together and make a science club, we can come out with whatever we want". While that may be true within the "scientific" realm of drug testing, that is far from the truth outside that field. Don't confuse the term scientist with expert. Don't confuse usada charlatans with scientists. Scientists are known as those who conduct scientific research. Absolutely, some of that research is junk. (*cough* drug testing research) But the great thing about the science industry at large is that charlatans are found out and they are proven, through cold hard facts, to be wrong. Hopefully one day the drug testing scientific community can get to that point. I can see where Chael is coming from. He has experienced the "science" behind drug testing his whole life, he's even been burned by it, and it is easy to see that he has also become jaded towards it. Here is the problem with Chael's argument about Scientists. He says calling yourself a scientist is self proclaimed. He's right. He says there is no degree you have to obtain to call yourself a scientist. That's another fair point, but I would also say good luck being a scientist without a degree, and not end up shunned by the scientific community and therefore the losing the credibility of your claim. He talks about how other titles have more requirements. You can get a title such as M.D. through formal education. Formal education is regulated by a select group of people defining what makes you qualified or not: what equations you have memorized, how diligently you did your homework, how well you did on tests, what your GPA ended up as. I have no qualms with that. In contrast, the field of science is self regulating. There is no school handing you a piece of paper saying you are qualified. Your peers and Nature itself tests you. Nature itself shows you, through your scientific research and experiments whether you are qualified in that field. Additionally, your peers research contends with yours, usually in peer reviewed scientific journals. Ultimately, the most evident truth prevails. Yes, some of the science is bogus. But that gets weeded out. Just as bad doctors are weeded out through malpractice suits. Just look at the tech around you to see that this self regulating property of science and the scientists within it is a very concrete concept and shows the field is the complete opposite of bogus. There are crank scientists just like there are crank doctors. There is bad science just like there is bad medicine practice. After maturation most scientific fields have become well oiled machines that refute shoddy theories & research while shining a light on theories that might lead to a more collective understanding of the truth of the universe. I will say fair point to him, it seems the scientific field surrounding drug research hasn't got there yet. But he shouldn't talk in generalities about the entire scientific community. The reason he gets such backlash when he attacks the field of science and the term scientist is because he is attacking something centuries old that has become a self regulating well proven institution, and his position completely discounts that. I think he should just stick to using the word Expert. TLDR: Short analogy. Just because there are fighters out there who practice one touch death punch or other ridiculous stuff doesn't mean the entire field of fighting is bogus right? The title fighter doesn't become bogus. You can still call on a fighter with credibility to use as an 'expert' when talking about fighting technique. Just because there are scientists who practice shoddy research doesn't mean the entire field of science is bogus. The title scientist doesn't become bogus. You can still call on a scientist with credibility to use as an 'expert' to talk about scientific results. Chael needs to be more careful with his words. Don't speak in such sweeping generalities about science and scientists. He says "If there's no defense then guess who wins. the only one with an offense." That is not science. Science is a system of testing the behavior of nature within a field of study. What he is talking about sounds like guys making shit up because there is no one that will test there claims. Chael is talking about charlatans, and it appears the UFC doping scientific community is full of them.
