Implicit bias is inherent in all human beings. Megan Fuciarelli believes our goal shouldn't be to eliminate these biases; but rather overcome them before they become explicit or discriminatory. Megan Fuciarelli is an educator and administrator with over 20 years of experience in the social justice realm. As the Executive Director & Principal Consultant of US2, she works with a team to help unite society through equity and inclusion work. She has presented for local, state, national, and international audiences in the areas of Restorative Practices, Equity & Inclusion, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, and The Whole Child. She is very proud of her work with Teaching Tolerance as a contributor and the author of the Critical Practices Webinar Series. Fuciarelli holds a BS in Elementary Education as well as a MATL in Reading and MEd in Educational Administration. Fuciarelli has also completed an ESL Certificate and the Urban School Leadership Program at Harvard. Her passion directly correlates with providing insight into individuals in order to unite society. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

People ask pregnant women if they are taking time off because they grow a human inside of them for nine months and then give birth to it, which can be easy for some but not for others. They recognize what women go through to give life to another human being. As someone who had a long, painful delivery that ended in an unwanted cesarian, I'd have to disagree that the time isn't more for healing. The BIAS comes from companies that don't allow other parents time off to be present during that time. The baby and both parents need that time together in their own ways.

So, I'm being (micro)aggressive when I ask an expecting mother if she'll be taking time off after baby's born?!?!? Whaaaat????? ........... Religious core values: What if my religion requires me to share its message with others?!? (emphasis on SHARE not pushing it into their face or threatening their lives because of it) ......... So, help me overcome my biased preference of Pepsi over Coke (or the other way around), since I've tried both. Maybe I better drink more of that soda she's drinking? grrrr.
