Once I bartered with a coworker. I knit a baby sweater, she gave me jars of newly homemade Italian pasta sauce. We were both happy but other coworkers thought it odd. I reminded them that bartering is actually a time honoured way of exchanging goods and services.

I lived in California. I think the ideal way first is to "Downsize" I bought a Tiny House and pay monthly rent for parking space plus utility is still way cheaper than $2,000 monthly rent. Instead of getting a 2nd or 3rd job to increase your income or save $100 here and there, that won't help much only adding more stress because you are mentally and physically drained.

I appreciate you acknowledging the reality of the rental prices. Some people in the finance world seem completely disconnected from the reality that people are navigating most of their income just on rent due to the housing issues these days. Your tips combine finance principles with the reality of people's lives. Thank you!

You're welcome. Hopefully something gives soon, I know quite a few people who've had their rents increase by $600 to $1000...in just one year. It's crazy.

My car insurance renewal came due and the company tried to sell me a $4000+ policy. I was like not today. I had a goal of 1500 for my half of the insurance. I looked around and got just a little under $3000. I’m not a person to shop thrift stores but I sure will shop clearance. Found new jeans for like $3 etc.

I love the suggestion. I would love for my landlord to agree to reduce my rent by 10%, yet we live in a world right now where your rent might get raised 10% for asking. Electricity, yes that's possible. Food, yes. Solid waste disposal, no. Rent, no. Health insurance, no. That's a lot of nos.

Landlords have bills to pay too and renters sometimes forget and think Landlords are millionaires. They live paycheck to paycheck trying to make the mortgage on it, they pay insurance on it and taxes as well. You can't live in someone else's house for pennies on a dollar. By the time they pay all the high expenses to keep that home for you to be able to keep renting it, they make next to nothing really. And dont forget the repairs etc.

I stumbled across your channel and love the content so far! You are so right about negotiating with the Landlord. I have been in a leased Condo since 2015-it was brand new at the time. 3br, 2.5ba, 2car garage Townhouse. Ive always signed a 2yr lease, I pay on time and I have not had any appliances replaced. Everything is still in new condition(I’m OCD). Landlord said because of the tenant I am, I pay the cheapest out of all his tenants. I still pay under $1400 where as others are in the $1800+ range. It does pay to pay on time, I can do that because I live well below my means.

When I looked in the can they had a great shape instapot. Missing cord needed to be cleaned. Those pots are worth $25 all day long. Want to give a great used gift give pressure cooker. Most working counter help in my town are really struggling and a bike and a pressure cooker can give them hours back they were investigating in cooking time and walking time.

We drive old cars. I got a call from the insurance company that my 2024 bill would be 700. That's a lot for a 1998 car, I said. And we REALLY want you to increase your coverage, she added.Prices have gone up on insurance, she said. Please look and find me a better price, I said. She called the next day, saying I found you a policy for 565 dollars, but only if you increase your coverage. I agreed to pay the new rate, but not increase my coverage. I got the new rate.

Your interest rate and your ability to qualify for a loan in the first place are effected by your Credit score. If you have a history of non payment and late payments are going to bite you back.

It matters. Why? Employers can check your credit when hiring and choose someone else because of credit. Insurance companies can charge more if you have bad credit. Your home or car interest loan can be several points higher depending on your credit. Even apartments can be more expensive if you have poor credit or even mediocre.

Credit does matter, but it's possible to buy with a lower score (as low as 580 to 620), as long as your "most recent" credit history is good. I believe you can't have more than two 30-day late payments on your credit report within the past 24 months for FHA. Loan program requirements differ, so it might be more or less.

I was wondering, is it possible to learn new skills using free resources online and see if I can change jobs or career? For example, if I get certified in coding, will I be able to change jobs and potentially get a boost in earnings? I live with my family and I help them out. I already know the job market is difficult, I've had to apply to jobs for like 7+ months before I finally got my current job but I barely earn above minimum wage. I wouldn't know what to do if I hadn't had my family allowing me to live with them.

@@DavidEVogel I wonder, can community college offer affordable education? If I have to pay a lot for community college classes, I don't want to worry about student loans (especially now with high interest rates). Or what about legitimate colleges offering certification classes? I see some colleges near me that are legitimate and offers certified classes. And the certificate are pretty affordable.

Asking for less rent is so rude and entitled. Your asking someone for free money. Homeowners set rent based on the price of interest rates , they don’t actually make much off cash monthly. They make most profit off equity in the house over time
