@@joshraid1550 Ulver is everything, and yes, sometimes pop, like on Childhood's End. Those were basically pop songs in their original form, they just made them better. And yes, there was shitty pop back then, but much less, and the good ones were really great. Nowadays almost all pop music is shit, and I almost can't even name any performer from the last maybe 15 years that had any good, memorable, enjoyable stuff. Or just something that doesn't annoy the hell out of me... Actually, Poppy made some good stuff, but that's all. Although I don't listen to modern pop much, as there are way better stuff to listen. And yeah, even metal is not that interesting anymore. The great old bands are mostly just pale shadows of their former selves, and the new ones rarely make something truly innovative and memorable. This video is how I feel like with new pop music. I feel nothing at all when I listen to pop and I didn't listen to pop for few years. I feel happier with just metal in my life. Love to many different metal subgenres and I love feeling the passion every metal musician brings to the song. Very rarely I would listen to pop, but when I do it's just Michael Jackson and some best old stuff.

The song length joke got me, and feels like a funny and interesting topic to discuss between metal and mainstream. Now there are parts of metal that still make short songs, but I've grown to adore how its common for many albums to have a few 10+ minute tracks, whereas I get alien looks from others when they figure out a single song is still playing past 3 minutes. I still listen to some pop, especially stuff coming out the poppier side of the synthwave genre, but its not the same from genre-to-genre. At some point the metal bands that only do radio-friendly songs in structure and length (like Disturbed) felt subpar for what the genre can be.

I honestly judge how much I respect someone’s character by whether or not they like metal music. If they don’t understand it or can’t resonate with it, then that tells me they haven’t suffered. It tells me their life has been nothing but rainbows and sunshine. They haven’t had to be crushed by their own sense of self loathing or see their own world crumble before them. It tells me that it’s someone I just can’t trust or get along with because they couldn’t even fathom what someone like me has been through. It’s one of the reasons I have the utmost respect for metalheads.
@Farvann
@Farvann 7 ай бұрын
But it's not their choice what they go through and what not. Respecting people only by things that happen on coincidence is a little strange.

This sounds ironic but if it isn't, and I don't mean to undermine your struggles or anything but that's what you might be doing to others, there's other ways people can relieve their trauma and darkness than through metal, whether that's through other music or something completely different non music related. Judging people based on just that seems extremely flawed, especially if you end up invalidating their feelings and experiences as not that bad when they might have been scarred by them.
@datdankdj8264
@datdankdj8264 2 ай бұрын
@@crazybalrog4033 yeah others’ struggles are valid as well, but metal music is such a vital part of my life that it’s really hard for me to comprehend how some people genuinely dislike it, which makes it hard to resonate with someone who doesn’t understand metal. True this comment was an over-exaggeration of my feelings on the genre, but my point still stands that if they can’t appreciate the meaning behind the lyrics, then I just can’t vibe w/ em
