That’s just a dumb idea… technology isn’t perfect. No matter how hard you try. This idea opens up a whole slew of issues that can’t be solved. So if a camera stops working mid arrest due to technological malfunctions… the suspect should just be… let go? Say the suspect knows this law and intentionally smashes/breaks the camera…. What then? Do they get off free? You can SAY ‘only if an OFFICER turns it off’. But that opens up another set of issues. It’s almost impossible to actually tell if it’s intentionally turned off or not and a cop could say they accidentally hit it. So then you’d have a suspect who got off free because it was off and then an unsolvable case about an officer turning it off. So that’s two criminals who get to walk free… Any more bright ideas armchair law maker?

@worldview6218

@@rossgeographyI think it was more then that. You could tell they were basically setting him up to put him into a resisting arrest scenario. It’s really hard to comply and step out of the car when one officer is tugging you one way, and the officer on the other side is holding you down. You could see Jamal when he pulled his phone and say okay he’s gonna record start to move on his own to comply and get out of the car, but that’s when the other officer grabs the phone arm, says he’s resisting and you basically have a tug of war situation going on. Cops do this all the time, give contradictory orders, or will do things like apply pressure on an arm, but then scream at you for not being able to put your arms behind your back, the same arm they are restraining, then they’ve got you on resisting arrest. It’s even more ridiculous when they do this on stops like this with absolutely zero pretext whatsoever because they essentially get someone for resisting an arrest when there isn’t even an underlying crime or adequate reason for them to be interacting with you in the first place. It’s easy to cheer for people getting 100s of millions in settlements across the country, and those citizens who have their rights violated should get it, but the issue is it’s our taxpayer dollars funding those settlements. I’m sure if qualified immunity wasn’t as ridiculously broad as it is, and these settlements came out of these officers pensions you would actually be able to deter this but there is no real accountability or change , just taxpayers footing the bill for our own rights being trampled while we continually also increase police budgets basically yearly

Because if regular cops can lie about anything then if someone asks a cop "Am I being detained" then what the cop says could be a lie, how would you know if anything a cop says is a lie or not, if you ask a cop what the law is, a cop could just make up laws that don't exist. And what I found strange was how the guy even planted weed in the first place, that means that cop had illegal weed on him already. I don't think weed should be illegal in the first place though. But I found it to be injust that the cop go no punishment for that, there should be a rule that any cop who falsely arrests someone gets the same amount of time in jail as the person they arrested, it will make them reconsider their illegal actions.

The victim was just coming from hospital, after big stomach surgery and he told the ass clowns that, to top it of. They manhandled him so much, he needed an ambulance ride right back. Then they decided to plant evidence.. because they could. Sadly, this is policing in America, this is what only 20+ weeks of training and no mental evaluations (to weed out narcissists, psychopaths & other problematic personalities) gives you. Its half of what hairstylist go thru & they dont have guns, tasers and nearly infinite authority over us peasants. This is why unarmed people die in police encounters, they have this “us or them” mentality, and them (we) dont matter. We are way past few bad apples, now most of the tree is poisoned. Be safe & always film the police! Even the smallest encounters, for citizen safety.

Police don't want intelligent people to join the ranks. For a reason. If they had higher IQ's, they might question authority, or realize they're in the wrong. This is fromt he top down, they're not very intelligent.

There's no way anyone seeing Jamal's arrest can say it was lawful or in anyway his fault - I don't understand how the corruption can go so far up the chain that he's denied any justice at all. I'm from the UK and apparently I know the American law better than these cops. It's terrifying.

Laws are for poor people and those not involved in enforcing them or creating them. They protect each other and use their power to protect friends and their relatives. This also happens in the UK, as soon as a cop is accused of anything they immediately close ranks and start defending them. Very few cops are punished in the UK unless they really screwed up and even then they will never face prison time unless they did something really bad.

When were you a cop? Police unions are extremely powerful these days, and the Supreme Court has always been extremely sympathetic to police. I can’t imagine that any cop today is unaware of the fact that they can fuck somebody’s life up and get away with it.

Non consequential bad behavior leads to further bad behavior. Not only by the perpetrator but also by other officers seeing it happen. A little slap on the wrist. Still getting paid. No one of the settlement fees come out of their pockets or the Dept. It’s paid by tax dollars of the people they have pledged to protect. Shame shame shame

It's well past due - We must demand action against this behavior. We must demand that cops, government employees, agents, and contractors be held accountable! Repeal qualified immunity. Establish laws requiring insurance companies to set higher standards for government officials to retain insurability, demand transparency policies are in place and limit police unions' involvement in issues concerning people's civil rights and liberties. Keep up the great work.

The better part is they don't have to even be aware you have rights. That's what qualified immunity is; specifically designed to protect police officers when they violate your constitutional rights.
@Scotty-vs4lf

@@TrueXyrael no... no it isnt. its actually the opposite. qualified immunity means they cant get sued for causing damage as long as they dont violate your constitutional rights. and just for the record, as a white person, growing up my parents always told me "do whatever the cop says, and if theyre wrong you can sue them after. resisting them doesnt help you whether theyre right or wrong." you cant deny that Jamal escalated it, even if he was in the right. it would have been better for him to comply and get it sorted out rather than make the cops think he was hiding something
