I started at 17. Drinking almost every weekend, a lot of the time too much, and ended it at 39. Drinking everyday after work a 6 pack or more of beer plus swigging vodka out of mickey’s I had hidden all around the house. Hangovers were a daily Thing. When they were really bad I would take a couple shots in the morning to get moving. I blacked out regularly I drove drunk all the time. I was very depressed, obese, anxiety ridden and sometimes had suicidal ideation. I wasted soo many years being selfish. When my first marriage collapsed I drank so I couldn’t feel. But instead I was an emotional mess. My kids saw alot of my drinking and I’m very ashamed of how I acted. I got sober January 1st 2019. I made it 1 year and a month. I thought I was fine. I thought I could drink like a regular person after proving I could so long without alcohol. but I was dead wrong. Within 1 week of the first drink I was hiding vodka all over the house again and blacking out. My last drink was March 6th 2020. I woke up late for work. I have no memory if my last night drinking. I showed up to work still very intoxicated. I sat in my car in tears. I couldn’t do this anymore. I hated myself. I knew I was going to die. I remembered this thing I heard in a recovery meeting about burning the ships. About not having anymore secrets. I came out to my bosses that morning. I told them the whole truth. I then told my fiancé everything as well. I’ve been sober for 2 years this March. It’s been hard but I love how I feel now. Even my worst days now are nothing compared to the self hate I used to spew at myself before. It’s possible to change. But you have to really be sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I started drinking at 16 im now 33. I have been through similar things you have said, i went sober for a whole month this year and i loved it, i gave more time to my partner and step children and they saw the real me, i felt happier and more wholesome i loved waking up esp in the weekends not hungover or missing work due to hangovers during the week, then i thought id have a drink then totally relapsed, i hated myself and what i put my loved 1s through esp myself physically mentally and emtionally i was a wreck and was going to either commit suicide or die by the bottle. Today is the day i pick myself back up bounce back and regain the life i loved.

@@NZnolimit you can do it. It’s not easy at first but it gets easier as time goes on. I’m not going lie and say it never crosses my mind but the cravings get so light and short it’s extremely easy to brush them off and continue on with life. I think the fact that alcohol is so accepted as a normal thing to do that those cravings come around at all. It seems like everyone I know drinks and my workplace has it as a fundamental way to get together to unwind outside of work. It has made me feel left out at times. It’s not worth it though destroying my life to fit in. The feelings you have after your relapse are normal and healthy. They are a sign that you have awoken from a slumber that you were in for many years. You will never be able to go backwards to those times again when you were naïve to your actions. It’s the greatest gift you could have ever received. Some many people walk through their whole life never tasting that truth.

I remember being in my workout classes overhearing the Mom’s discussing going for drinks afterwards. I’d hear them laughing at the fact that their children would ask “mommy, why do you drink so much wine?” I knew I had an issue when I was googling “how to tell if you have a drinking problem” one of the first things I read was “if you have to ask, then you most likely do” I am 4 years sober now. Yes once the withdrawal is done. I found after 2 weeks I did not feel any sickness. I still could not sleep. It took 6 months for everything to go back to “normal”. There will always be cravings. Life has cravings it’s no excuse to go back. I also do not have all the side effects. Not being able to drive, stomach and GI issues etc. the list of reasons to drink is short. The reasons not to is almost endless. Getting in a relationship with a person that is not a drinker helped. I find dating people that even “go out” as a hobby to be too much of a trigger. I start that way, but it is no time before I am back to drinking at home. I personally find alcohol to be an issue when a person is using. Meaning not having drinks, but purely using it for the effect.

I've had about 3 times I felt like drinking due to the routine of drinking when stressed, mad, tired. But I quickly take a Naltrxone and the urge is quickly totally gone in about 4-8 minutes. It turns my sister into a vicious monster who will weaponize her psychology degree. She is relentless and goes into some sort of psychosis on liquor specifically. We live together, I can't leave and she gets to the point she tortures me throughout the apartment. I don't know what to do. In her sober life, she displays full-on histrionics triangulates me by misrepresenting my behavior, character and reactions to her sinister tactics. She'll self harm when it's a full meltdown. I can't take it anymore. My family is disinterested even though I have a bunch of secret recordings and my mom has heard her screaming in the background. She said she doesn't need to hear it, huffed and puffed then said she'll call her. That made it worse and I had to take double my antidepressant and PTSD meds to knock myself out to sleep. I keep my bedroom locked. She enjoys the release, I can tell. She also hates when people sh¡t on alcoholism. Not alcoholics - the alcoholism itself. When not wasted, she's irritated, uninterested, negative and is always in histrionic mode. She's also a craft beer and liquor connoisseur and collects rare craft beers and trades them. She's also very greedy about her drink except when holding my flying monkey mother hostage - she'll feed her all this alcohol then the night winds up with her screaming down at my mom and mom trying to appease her. My mom is driving home drunk because she doesn't pass up a drink with my sister almost like she's doing it to get through the situation. She's fuking 29 btw. She also is CONSTANTLY HACKING into water bottles and it's so fuking disgusting. She's been doing it nonstop for like 3 years and it gets to the point she's just sitting there going *cough* *hack* *spit* *cough* *hack* *spit* just over and over like she's manic and unaware. Let her see you are noticing and she'll call you right out and talking about how she can't help it, all in a confrontational tone. She even throws up blood sometimes, doesn't care, doesn't tell the doctor. What can I possibly do? My MH already has me in survival mode and her alcoholism brings nothing but agony and despair to my life.

Different substances affect people differently. I can drink alcohol and easily manage my behavior, but when I smoke marijuana - and I’ve tried 3 times - I throw up, I have panic attacks, cry for hours, and become extremely paranoid. But my girlfriend cannot drink AT ALL. She becomes just like your sister, insanity and all. She is sober now and she smokes marijuana occasionally to manage her mood, to make her more calm. Her body absolutely cannot take alcohol, but her body can handle marijuana. My point is that alcohol and other substances can become a problem or become extremely toxic for someone depending on their natural brain and body chemistry. I think it is very interesting.

I used to have really bad social anxiety and I beat it (for the most part, like 90% gone). The only thing that actually worked for me was throwing myself into super social situations multiple times a week until I desensitized myself. It fucking sucked tho and I made an ass of myself a million times. But now I have control over my anxiety. Would recommend

I’m being very honest in this comment. I can honestly say I drink a twelve pack of michelob ultras 3-4 times a week I get up go to work I am perfectly fine threw out each day. I can stop but I do have craving to drink I don’t hurt ppl or drive or have any shaking issues even if I decide to stop drinking for a week or two. Most ppl will say I’m an alcoholic but idk it’s just normal I started drink when I was 15 most ppl I’ve known drink hard core liquor and I can’t and I hate the bad hangout. Am I considered an Alcoholic?

I'm a 3rd generation drinker. Alcoholics run threw my family like crazy. We don't drink wine. We drink whiskey. I drink daily. 200ml daily to be exact. I do don't drive "my husband does". I am 35yo with 6 children under 11yo. I'd like to stop... but once my kids are in bed, this is my brain shut off.

Your poor kids, many of them will grow up and follow your lead, and the beat goes on... generation after generation, and not one warning label on one bottle of alcohol, was sold throughout a pandemic, only store open because without it society would have had blood on its hands. Its not your friend, wake up.

All he is doing is giving people information and help, I’ll gladly pay money to have someone spread help to millions of people, the fact you think that’s a problem is pretty disturbing..time to look within yourself and ask why you feel this way about someone spreading positive information.

@@gw593 I don't even drink, literally go look it up. They've almost killed people by spreading misinformation and they severely manipulate whatever the guest say on their show to embarrass them or make them look like a fool whenever they try to defend something for entertainment or too push their narratives which are usually wrong in some way. It's not even about spreading facts for them, they make shows to entertain not inform, and they've said it themselves. You can't trust anything they say on this show. They're quacks. Do your own independent research before trusting anything they say, please. You're putting your health and body at risk by listening to their advice. Even my own doctor said that they're b.s. for views and not to trust their opinions because they exaggerate and push products that either don't work, barely work, or aren't backed by the FDA. Not to mention some haven't undergone rigorous testing, and they're all over prices and expensive money grab gimmicks.

@@maddi3787 I’m very educated on addiction and mental illness and nothing he said here is misinformation so maybe keep your comments to the videos you “say” are misinformed cause this ain’t one of them, you are doing more damage then good by commenting uneducated opinions on a video someone might be watching for help,
