Tyson is probably known mostly for his power, but his speed was just as impressive if not more so, he doesnt get the credit he deserves for his speed, his ability to slip punches like he was a welterweight. All most people see are the KO's

Tyson was absolutely the best boxer of my lifetime (41 years old). Sadly, his lifestyle out of the ring completely ruined what probably would've been the greatest career of all time.

@@JSchaffer214 some people may disagree, but Tyson at one point in time was the best heavyweight we have seen. He could have beaten the like of Ali, joe Louis and all the heavyweight greats. His devastating power, his lightening speed, his slips, footwork, great defense and his ability to not get hit were scary to watch. Unfortunately he doesn’t have the career that his skill deserved, and he got led astray. Shame

The difference between Floyd 's and Manny' s speed is that Pacquaio can throw faster combinations in sheer volume while Mayweather's speed is how fast he reacts on his opponent and throws his quick counter punches. Both are my favorite fighters. One is an offensive typhoon while the other is a defensive maestro.

Sugar Ray Leonard is still for me one of the most complete boxers of all time. Incredible hand speed combined with the ability to turn a fight with a single shot made him one of the most lethal finishers in the history of the sport.

My dad grew up in the 70's and 80's; always says that's his favorite fighter and watched all his fights. It's interesting to me because my dad is from Puerto Rico, moved to the mainland in the late 70's and became a huge fan of SRL.

Uggh, neither Ray Leonard(no Sugar Ray) Nor Roy Jones Jr... Are p4p anything Both excellent fighters both HoFers Not the best... Not close. Ray was v. Good.. But there were better in various weight classes And Roy got KO d... Cold... Still in his prime years.. In my judgement. That DQ s him for p4p consideration. He relied on speed to disguise his amateurish defense and awkward sloppy movements When his speed slipped and he face fast hitting power guys... BOOM! Zzzzzzz

I am impressed by the enhanced footage. Well done. I watched so many replay - closed circuit TV fights in the 1970s. Boxers are just such great athletes and you can agree or disagree as this video shows they are great, win or lose no matter the era. Thank you for this video.

@@JS-uw1pr idk, I mean I'm 33 so I grew up in the age of nothingness in terms of boxing. I mean I remember being young watching Tyson wreck people, but never really got into it, kinda got into MMA, I guess I appreciate it. It's def been interesting learning about some of these guys from the 80s and 90s though, which seemed to be the peak for the martial art.

And in a "speed vs power" thing, they put Mike in powe, but that seems maybe missing what he was. His speed was his power. He was insanely fast, especially ducking into a raising hook and angle changes.

Speed is an important element of creating power. You can be strong, but you still need to generate speed to create power. Mike Tyson is a perfect example of this.

Tysons head and foot speed was unmatched in his weight class. He was 5 inches shorter and weighed 20 pounds less than the average heavyweight during his time. So he had the smaller frame for the speed, but he was built like a brick shit house with frieght trains for hands, and he was hitting harder than anybody else. Tyson is a freak of boxing nature in ever good way possible.

He would push off the ground and start his punch with his back and shoulder and pivot his entire body as he was about to connect. He might have been a small heavyweight, but he was still a big dude by any other standard. 5'11 , 230 pounds, with a six pack. He was, and still is, strong as f**K.

I’ve got to say if the US government wouldn’t have taken Ali’s 3 prime years away from him, we may have seen a bunch of KO’s in his record. I firmly believe Ali and his management would have dealt with Joe Frazier, Ken Norton and all the fighters who he would’ve dealt with on their way up the ranks.

To me, Sugar Ray just going the distance with Thomas Hearns is one of the greatest feats in boxing history.

He knocked Hearns out 8 years previously at Welterweight, in the 14th round of their first fight. Was their Draw at Light Heavy a more impressive result for Leonard than that? Probably not. Equally so? Maybe.

Ray lost 2nd fight ..he s admitted it on clips on UT...and, he DID. Styles makes fights ...Tommy gave Ray all he could handle , yet Tommy got blasted twice by Iran Barkley who got beat by Duran (my fav) who got annihilated by Hit Man. It s what makes fight night so great...u just dont know

The truth is, power in 9 out of 10 cases is delivered by speed. Tyson was one of the fastest heavyweights.

mc365mc I think it's more like 6 out of 10, there are plenty of boxers throughout history who have slow hands but immense power, like Foreman and Liston. Some boxers are a slouch in the speed department but they are still blessed with natural power, just like there are plenty of fast boxers who couldn't break an egg?

@@muz4050 I would call guy Like Foreman and Liston heavy handed. Meaning the punch with a thud from the first bell to the last. Those kind of guys get latter round KO's. Power punchers like Tyson and Wilder get KO's early on fresh and sharp opponents. Their hands are quick enough to connect with shots you don't see comming, but powerful enough to put you out cold with just one early in the fight.

I'm glad that I was lucky enough to catch most of these fights when they happened. It was a real golden era for boxing , so many excellent fighters fighting each other. I hate how these days the biggest fights don't get made or if they do happen , it's years after they should have been made. Also , fighting once a year is b.s.

I met him n Jessie Vargas the same night we all stood around n chaves was giving Jessie some boxing pointers as the slowly spared n I held Jessie’s championship belt on my shoulder. Little did I know Jessie would box manny a couple months later!… fantastic memory for me. What a night!

I appreciate your knowledge and ability to translate that into something anyone can understand. I am a soldier and thought boxing was boring. It wasn't until I started to see the level of skill that can be achieved. How someone can come from behind a guys low gard,pulling there hook in to slip the punch behind the arm and straight into the liver. Or just being able to change direction of a punch in mid flight without losing power. Thank you for what you do for the sport

What is amazing to me is how much power a punch carries. Imagine in training hitting a huge bag of sand with both hands 100s of times a day. When you take someone like Foreman or Tyson, one of their punches carries enough force to knockout down a brick wall. This is why many boxers get their jaws broken and end up with brain damage later in life.

There's a video with a breakdown of the fight between Duran and Barkley, I believe it's on the Motivedia page. It's a really great explanation of the fight tactics and the adjustments being made in real time. James Toney as a fat and out of shape heavyweight is another boxing master to learn from. You'll enjoy it and learn a lot from it. Boxing is so much more than two guys just throwing punches at each other. There's so much that goes into it , it's like human chess and a lot like poker ,it takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master, where the right answer is always " It depends ". Enjoy the journey. I'm a soldier also. 2-10th SFG (A).

Mike Tyson wasn't just powerful, he was fast but his power was so scary it overshadowed his speed and they're also other fighters in this video that 100% owned both attributes

I still feel like it was the speed. At the end of his career he still had the power but he was just a short muscular guy who lacked the speed to close the distance.

17:15 underrated is not a word I enjoy using bc JJ could take contenders heads off in weight classes well beyond his which I wish got more attention but man this knock out was so brilliant. Bc Norris made a mistake, but he didn’t lose concentration as the original broadcaster alluded to in the moment. Only on analysis was it clear JJ was willing to eat Norris’ shots electing for water in the basement as he knew he’d lose a decision but only needed one big shot. The angle at which he threw that right he’d been choreographing all fight as a liver punch. He was dropping his head and slightly tilting to the right in what I always thought was him tipping his punch overtly. Superb patience to throw at the right time bc if he missed, Norris was way too smart to fall for it again. Turned it over and pivoted into what I still think is one of the most devastating single blows I’ve ever seen. Even JJ held his pose for a split second revealing how devastating it was with Norris having a vertical nap

I just loved Julio Cesar Chavez. He didn’t have a reverse. Marvin Hager’s ability to seamlessly switch from conventional to southpaw was amazing.

Chavez list of fights is unimpressive. He fought like 50 no name mexican'ts . Sweet pea Whitaker whipped cesar chavez and was robbed of a victory. Taylor fight with even worse . Taylor beat that ass for 12 rounds and DUMBASS ref Richard Steele stopped the fight with 2 seconds left in the last round of the fight bcuz chavez got in a lucky punch. Every announcer and score judge had Taylor up on points unanimously. But the DUMBASS that is Richard Steele stopped the fight like he was paid off or he owed the mafia gambling debt. You better watch that fight from round 1 thru 12 and not just the clip where that DUMBASS Richard Steele stop it at. Then and only then you will see the truth and know the truth of that fight.

These dudes are just salty, Taylor was hurt as it was, one more punch could have been a mistake by the ref, but hey these thugs think he should have let it continue.

And I was jumping about three feet in the air..Pay up Boys! I boxed a little. Enough to know how hard it is, My neighbor’s dad was a Golden Gloves fighter. I was fortunate enough to get in on the Ground floor when Iron Mike first started out. By the time he lost I couldn’t find anyone to bet against him. Cheers

I’ll tell you one speedster who had underrated power was Sugar Ray Leonard. He may not have had the one punch knock out power, but his combinations were heavy handed.

The setting was hilarious (JW Marriott valet pull up) and he’s just standing by himself and no one literally noticed him. I had to triple take like “wait a minute… is that Sugar Ray Leonard?!?!” Asked him and he was so calm, so cool, just a peace on him. Stood and gave him his flowers because he was a part of my childhood and watching fights with my dad. Hands are huge and just strong. Like he could flip the switch if you hinted disrespect. After I walked away and people looked at me like “wait…what the hell” then the Chicago crew (it was Bears vs Rams weekend) figured it out

Well I don´t know why they included Hearns as a power puncher either. He was quite powerful, but all of his knockouts came through his amazing speed. Hagler(RIP) was truly the most powerful fighter of that time in this weight. I don't know how they consider Eubank as a power boxer. Man has barely 40% knockout ratio. Considering Amir Khan against Canelo was also pretty stupid choice.Khan knows nothing about defense.

I'm a relatively new boxing fan, but Sugar Ray Leonard in his prime had the kind of fights that you really don't see anymore. 15 rounds where two guys are punching each other like it's a Rocky movie. Absolute slugfests and yet the fighters were super Tactical probably the most entertaining full fights I've ever seen

I forget who it was but someone beat him I believe twice by tko I think. An the guy ended up getting hurt real bad in the ring I don't think the dude could even walk anymore but he was better then him. He honestly made Jackson look bad both times which was unheard of.

Big error in first 3 min…Hearns recorded 2 knockdowns vs Leonard not one…in two different rounds thus two 10-8 rounds in which Hearns won 7 rounds thus easily winning the fight…except everyone overlooking Leonard’s shortcomings to give the golden boy a face saving draw that Ray later admitted he clearly lost the fight,despite having some good moment’s

The fact Ali, way past his prime, even fought someone like Shavers. RJJ in his prime is possibly the quickest, but gotta be either G-man, J.Jackson or Foreman for the hardest hitter.

ruddock was damn underrated He was the hardest puncher around the division at the time when he fought Tyson I think maybe because he didn't have an intimidating physique like foreman and shavers he's so under appreciated Another underrated HW was Tubbs His hand speed was viscious His fights with Witherspoon and bowe were pretty damn close

As someone who was and somewhat still is a power puncher. I sparred against a guy that had great footwork and quick hands. At the time my style was more of a puncher and relied on my power. However, this guy just pieced me up😂. Speed is great and needed if u wanna be at least good in boxing
